Forum's new look - What do you think?
« on: October 07, 2014, 10:05:21 AM »
Now that most of the changes are complete, what do you think of the forum's new look?

It's kind of funny to look back and see how the forum has evolved over time.

I just don't like the thread view and the silly green + button..

Rest of it is fine.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about the green + button either. It's confusing, especially to people who've never used a forum before. I prefer the quote & reply buttons to be visible. I'll probably have that modified this week.

Now, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by thread view. Can you post a screen shot?

Same here. After I installed the new theme, I sent Alloro a private message asking him if he knew how to reply to a post.

On the main forum page, the long descriptions for each section (category?) really make the page long.  Normally, the recent unread link is the quickest way to new content, but when browsing from the top level those descriptions R E A L L Y stretch out the page.  Maybe sacrifice some SEO value and shorten them up?  I miss the succinctness of the prior theme.

Hopefully I wasn't the only one who had to Google the word "succinctness?"

We could have gotten by with the limited amount of content that was on the forum homepage, but now the forum ranks for hundreds of new keywords. Plus, professionally written content is now a ranking factor with Google. The old content was written by Drew, the founder of the forum. And quite frankly, as much as I like Drew, the content just wasn't up to par. I can't believe I left it there as long as I did.

There are things I really miss about the old forum, but I have to keep improving it if I want it to stay competitive.

Probably, but that's okay I'm sure he was just showing off since most people would've just used one of the more common base words like "terse" or "short" or "brief".

Either that or he's highly educated and advanced vocabulary is natural to him.

Sorry, I didn't mean to violate the prevailing vernacular.  I merely proffered my opinion about the protracted topic summaries in lieu of more succinct prose.  Now that I've had time to ruminate, I see that a more redneck approach might have been more apropos.

No, I'll just Google proffered, succinct and ruminate.

I may not know it, but I know how to find it!  ;)
