What I put on Craigslist.

I generally will put anything that I think I can get more than $20 for on Craigslist. If you have the item priced right it will sell quickly.

My biggest gripe with CL is the frigging cheapskates. I can post something like a digital camera that was $120 new (recently, not 10 years ago), list it for $60 (the going price on Ebay all day long), and get people sending me offers for $20 and $30, usually attached to some sob story about needing it for their church, blah blah blah.....

I try to stick with large items (furniture, etc..) and free items (there are people who will take a mattress full of dog turds if it's free!)
Smaller shippable items are way more profitable on Ebay (and the buyer isn't going to waste your time).

Yeah, I get people coming up with sob stories too. There are some people out there who fall for that. Have you ever had someone call you and ask you if you would donate it entirely? If I was just trying to get rid of something, I would just post the item under the free section.

What really used to bother me is the amount of emails I would get from scam artists. They're really easy to spot because they always use vague language like " I would like to purchase your item". Sometimes I send the emails back asking them what item would you like to purchase, I have hundreds?

I guess they are preying on people who are brand new on Craigslist who have never sold anything before.

Perhaps one day I will agree to let them mail me a fake check and then when the movers come out to pick up the item, tell them it was already sold an hour before they came...oops.

Does anyone know how they get people to come pick the items up....do they scam the moving company as well or do they come over and pretend to be movers?

I used to wonder about all the scammers as its blatantly obvious when you won't call my bike a bike or a victory or anything related to the name but refer to it as an item.

You'd be surprised hwo dumb so many people are though. A buddy of mine actually took one of these checks to the bank and fortunetly he mentioned something to the teller and she looked into it before letting him deposit it, otherwise he would have been dumb enough to send them the 1500 differnce from the 200 item they bought from him lol.

I use Craigslist for furniture, bikes and other stuff that would be very expensive to ship. Sometimes, I have the stuff in my garage and people come to my house, but I try to primarily meet buyers at my storage locker less than 10 minutes from my house. I feel more comfortable meeting at a neutral spot.

My brother sells the tools we find in units through Craigslist.

Tclane - I hadn't thought about moving other stuff via Craigslist. Have you sold collectibles or primarily household items and consumer goods (you mentioned a digital camera, for example)?

yall seem to have decent luck selling on CL. whats the key to it all? i have to sell things for dirt cheap so i am not even making a profit on anything in fact i almost have to pay people to take the items. i been trying to sell a queen pillowtop mattress and box springs both simmons for 125 new over 1000 a couple years ago in near perfect condition been for sale for 2 months. also a complete set of stainless steel fitted brake lines for an 84ish camaro new still in box for 120 new over 200. plus i have them listed in 3-4 different areas.

whats the key as i really need to know so i can get more money for auctions. i am down to 160 which i am going to try and get a locker with on tuesday. let us know how to move things oh masters of auctions.

Something I started doing that I kinda like is selling stuff on cl on days I'm going to be around the house all day anyway. Say I'm doing yardwork all day Saturday I'll put up a bunch of posts Friday night. Even if its smaller things like coolers I'm around the house all day working so if someone tells me they comming at 2 and dont come until 4 doesn't matter I'm home anyway. Not really worried about security as I live in a **** neighborhood anyway more concnerned about my neighbors than people on cl, also got dogs and guns lol. Anyhow, As long as its over $15 I'll sell it on craigslist also larger stuff thats hard to ship.

I always meet the person somewhere especially if its something higher end.Don't want them to know where I live.

I sell almost every single thing I get in storage units through craigs. Only the 1-$10 items i'll save up for a yard sale. Ive sold home interior pictures, coat racks, all types of furniture including bed sets, nice pots and pans. General home merchandise has really surprised me with how fast it'll sell on craigs. Now I live in a military town, so our craigslist thrives....people always coming and going constantly so goods move around quick.

Now this is gonna sound kind of bad, but my favorite sell on craigs: A stray cat had a litter of kittens in my back yard that I ran across one day. 5 in all, posted a small rehoming fee of $5/kitten. So I made $25 out of thin air, and hopefully found some kittens a good home.

LOL - you must have the gift of gab or something Fayettenam.  You normally can't give kittens away and you made $5 a kitten.  I just had to laugh at that.

Craigslist is great for moving common merchandise that many people want or need. If the mattress & boxspring are not new & still in the plastic wrap, you will have a hard time selling it, no matter what the original retail price was. The camaro parts, you need a bigger audience for such a specific item. Try EBay or find a camaro forum on the internet and see if they have place to list items for sale.

A posting for a kitten wouldn't last 5 min. in our CL with all the PITA Nazies in Boston.
They even flag farm animals , but they are relisted .
