Anybody else wearing $525 long johns?

Anybody else wearing $525 long johns?

It's funny.....I think half the fun of buying units is personal 'picking'.  Our first unit was a 10X20 full to the brim for $525.  While digging through boxes of clothes, I found a brand-new, still in package pair of purple (I'm a Vikings fan~don't laugh......somebody has to be) longjohns in my size!  Those go into the 'oh that's mine' pile!

My eldest daughter keeps bugging me for an MP3 player.  We were digging though one of our not-so-great units and I found an old am/fm radio headset.....with antenna and all.  She got home from school and I tossed them at her with a 'Emma~we found your MP3!'  "MOM!!!"  She uses it everyday~though not when her friends are looking!

And we share outside the house too~my sister will often call and say 'I'm wearing my $500 sweater today!'.

I need to start paying for this stuff, but I guess until I actually start paying myself a wage......I'll keep pilfering the profits~ :D

You get use to it after awhile.  My kids love to help me dig in a unit so they can get first dibs on stuff.  Same with the wife.  You just need to get them involved in the buying and selling like I did.  Oldest daughter works her tail off at the flea so we have money to buy more units.  Is how they get to keep the game systems and games they want.

I got you beat on the $525 long johns.  I have $875 worth of sheet rock in filling holes in my driveway.  Is what happens when a great looking unit from the outside turns out to be mud upon closer inspection.

I think most of us save something out of a good unit for ourselves.

I also give myself physical monetary credit for those items in my spreadsheet record.

Recently I decided I wanted another cordless phone for my home. I get them fairly regularly in lkrs, but they are not always good ones, and sometimes the batteries are about shot and they don't hold a charge very long.

Instead of buying a new one for maybe $30 to $40, I wait for a good one to come up in a lkr and then if it sells for $30 new I give myself $15 credit for it...this brings the cost of the lkr down as far as I'm concerned, so if the lkr cost $100, I now have only $85 invested in it and it pays itself off that much faster.

I wouldn't call it a $100 phone (though the $500+ long johns are a cute idea) but I am still happy with it !

$525 Purple long-john's are great.  ;D  We have done pretty good on the non keeper factor.. If I look at something to long I will want to keep it . My husband sees green it is gone... HAHAHAHa

Our problem is going to be family.... Do you have or if you come across this... Most are good but there is one that is going to be ruff... Just starting out we sell everything. So I will have to charge them. Might cause a war... LOL

The absolute worst for me was when we sold the 3 portable heaters.  Now granted I live in AZ, but dang it.....I hate being cold.  Still we needed the money more than I needed the comfort.  Of course when we bought the next unit and it was full of (very nice) power tools, my husband started to finagle a Makita worm drive......I ahem'ed him and reminded him of my heaters that we sold the week before~~~
That was one of the first things sold at the swap meet.  I think I may have seen a tear in his eye.......

I keep a few things out of lockers or picks that I do around town. What I keep, just like movieman, I take note of it on my spreadsheet.

It's ok to keep stuff for yourself or family.  I do it all the time and consider it my "wage" that I pay myself or family.  For me I have two different calculations on my spreadsheet.  One is the true money spent vs money made.  The other is the money spent vs (money made + item's value kept).  I write down the things I've kept, figure 50-75% value of retail unless it's brand new and go from there.

I did find a brand new Packers pipe.  We pretty much dismantled it and will use the helmet portion as part of an art project for my youngest daughters teachers gift......re-purposing at it's finest!

Oh and I had to wash a Dallas Cowboys blanket.  I told my husband if I had to wash, dry and fold that thing he'd better get $10 for it.  He got $8.....I'm still not talking to him~
The injustice of it all.

Went to some auctions today wearing Vikes gear.  Was looking for sympathy.....well I found it~
Didn't help me get a locker though~:D

That was really a long day..............
