Has Anyone Else Tried Storage Treasures Lately?
« on: May 31, 2012, 11:17:01 PM »
I got on Storage Treasures the other day to check out the competition and to really see if they list a majority of the auctions in our area. The one thing I really don't like about them is that I feel like they're using "bait and switch" on the public. When you arrive at their website, they show you a map and a list of multiple storage facilities they claim to be listing the auctions for. When you log in, you realize that what they're showing you is just a list of storage facilities in your area, and they only list the auctions for a few of them. I think it's pretty sad when you have to trick people to get them interested. I compared our schedules in Dallas & Houston to theirs and they listed about 30% of the auctions. Not too bad for a free service but I think a serious storage auction buyer would be looking for something more comprehensive.  Has anyone else had better luck with them or are you'll seeing similar results in your area?

They haven't been a great source for me personally.
Tho people must use it cause I've noticed a lot higher attendance at those listing at ST.

I've noticed better prices at the smaller facilities, not the bigger ones ST caters to.

I've never used it.  Found it when first was searching for auctions and quickly dismissed it.

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought too. The auction results were limited in my area so I figured that would be consistent throughout the country. I think the storage facility has to pay Storage Treasures to list their auction on their site. I don't think many storage facilities will be willing to pay them. I think the business model needs rethinking.

I just started researching and ran across storage treasures and got the bait and switch impression almost immediately. Haven't been back. Auctionzip seems to be useful.

Not true, storage facilities have a free option. Remember one check on the site and you will see the ST is owned by the storage industry. If you think the others will win in the long run, you will run out of bids before then...

It's a good site for when Ive been lazy and done no research, wake up bored, and just glance to see if any auction are that day with doing no work......

I do have some complaints (nothing big)  and things I'd like to see.....however, if I vocalize these complaints they may just act on them.  This in turn would lead to a better site, more usage and more newbies attending......

So I like the site. Just how it is. No need to add to it.     ;D

And all emails have stopped.  That's good.  Perhaps just a fluke all the spam started right as I joined....if not, they took care of it so looks like not intentional.

Well I know one of the newbies in my area uses the site.  I had to not laugh and roll my eyes friday at her.  She uses that site and a pay site to find auctions.  Then compalined about not knowing of some of the other auctions people have attended.  Of course if she keeps paying what she does for units it will not matter.  She will fade away like so many of the other newbies in the last year.

Wondering if anyone on this forum is going through the "Storage Auction Pro" training program, and what they thought of it. A newbie was talking to me at an auction and he used a strange phrase that I recognized. I remembered it's one of the phrases that one of the Storage Auction Pros use in their daily lexicon. I realized he must have watched the videos and perhaps was doing the training program.

I too am starting a storage auction training program where I stand behind the newbies and slap them in the back of the head every time they over bid.  8)

cheeseburger auctionzip is a joke. if that's how you find your auctions you need to stop. nothing but big crowds and lots of dumb people.  go to auction not on there page. that's all i go to. back in the day it was good. not any more.

I agree. Auctions listed at AuctionZip are flooded with other buyers. A lot of people don't realize that over half of all storage facilities don't use auctioneers. And if a storage facility doesn't use an auctioneer, you will never see their auction listed on AuctionZip. Auctions that the general public are unaware of often have fewer buyers in attendance. And when there are fewer buyers, the chances of getting a good deal increases. Try calling storage facilities in rural areas for best results.
