Have you bought a self-help book on succeeding in the storage auction business?

We all know there are a lot of them "out there", but have any of you bought any of them?

Several of us here got complimentary ebook copies of Travis' effort and I think I remember that one of the members who jumped ship had bought some of Glendon Cameron's books.

alot of people knock books and many as we've discussed on here either suck or are nothing but vague upsells to high priced programs that are probably garbage as well. i would buy a book if i were new to auctions. sure all the same info for the most part can be found online on this forum and blogs for free if you dont mind spending hours of searching but to have it all combined in one well organized book along with forms an things is well worth it.

I have not, however, I have read through storagetreasures.com's info vault. There's some good info and some bad info in there.

Interesting. Can you give us an example of the BAD info they are handing out ?

Perhaps I shouldn't say BAD info... Self serving info for sure!

They have a storage buyer's guide..

In this guide, under How to find a storage auction.. It's all about how to use their site exclusively. Perhaps it's a great business decision, can't blame them for that. However, on an "educational" standpoint.. There's SOOO many ways to find storage auctions.. They do nothing to educate the reader on alternative ways to find auctions.

That's one example.

Here is an example: An article by Rick Schur on their forum. Why they would allow this to be published is beyond me. The title of the article is "Yes, Reality Auction Shows are Real...Here's how I Know."   :o  Really? Does he live under a rock? Newbies are reading this article and trusting the information. What's even worse, comments are disabled so you can't rebut his ridiculousness.

This is my favorite quote from the article. "I have no idea what they did after I left, but have every confidence that whatever they show on TV is legitimate. I have no reason to believe otherwise."   :-[

He's all star struck like a teenage school girl at a Justin Bieber concert, so obviously he watches the show. How on Earth can a storage auctioneer think Auction Hunters is real?

I Have 3 of glendons books, I was already going to auctions when I got them and I picked up 1 or 2 tips anyway.

Buying storage units at auction is an exciting way to make a living. For some, it is a full time career. For others, it is a part time avocation and a way to earn additional income. For still others, it is the thrill of a treasure hunt. Maybe they are not in it in order to make a living, but rather to find unique and special items, either for themselves or for resale.

I did buy 2 $.99 kindle books when I first started.  Still have them on the kindle.  Was nothing on there that I didn't already know or had found out from reading this site.  In fact - if I was writing one of those books I'd focus on more of the selling of the merchandise then the buying.  Give people a feel for what is commonly found in 60% of the units you will see.  What is the best way to get rid of those items and make a profit, etc.

Im still on the first book on how to make a million. Hasn"t worked yet

Love the idea that reality shows are "real!" (Sarcasm intended....)

Just the basic fact of putting a camera and TV crew into the scene at any event (storage auction, wedding, gathering of housewives, you name it), changes the experience completely. Move everyone wants their "15 minutes of fame" and will do crazy, sometimes stupid things to get it. Including bidding WAY too much for a unit or locker, just to show off for the cameras...

Just my $0.02' worth...
