today i hesitated to bid on a unit that very well could have been the jackpot all cus there where 2 mattresses and this auction was quite a ways away from my house, there was a trek mountain bike that i know retails for about 700 an army bag that clearly said 1912 and very sturdy pastic bins with straps this was indoors and it went for 200 it was a steal but i hesitated cus of the mattresses.

so the question is , has anyone else hesitated as they where fairly new to the scene?

Yup, been there and done that. Moved on from worrying about it. Do this long enough and you'll enjoy the other pleasure of missing a locker because you didn't have enough cash on you, which sucks even more then scenario 1 because it's usually a locker you want baddddddd!

Must agree, you will get lockers like that, that you end up walking away and still really wanting it.

I passed on the first unit that I saw because it had a lot of windows from a commercial building.  I did not have a good way to haul them they were so large.  It was a good looking unit that went for $105 I think.  The glass must have scared off others because it was one of the cheapest unit of that day.

I know it's happened to many more then a few times.  Either I just don't have the cash for a locker or I like many items but don't have the place or time for the rest.  Even today I saw a really good locker with lots of heavy tools and such but only had $400 in cash as I've purchased 4 units in the last week.  Unit sold for $520 (silent bid).  For myself if there are a matress/boxspring and lots of furniture I mostly pass on the unit no matter how much I like it.  Don't have the time or storage space to deal with lots of furniture.  Once you build up contacts and such to move things like that you can jump on them.  Till then you have to decide on price vs your time & effort vs profit.

For myself if the unit has more then 1 piece of furniture that I can't unload unless it goes for a really nice price I'll skip it.  With the heavy hitters we have around here most of those units go for $300+ anyways.

I passed on two units at the same auction becuase I didn't want to move the stuff. I regretted not buying both of them. The first was full of commercial equipment like meat slicer, coffee maker/warmers, industrial trash cans etc. The reason I didn't buy it was becasue of the two large chest freezers. One was stacked on top of the other and I could not figure out how I would ever get it down. The meat slicer by itself, assuming it worked, would have paid for the unit but I let it go.
From there we went dow to another unit that was full of restaurant equipment like chairs (30 or more), 3 large prep tables made of aluminum and one very large, very heavy looking pizza oven. I just couldn't figure out how I was going to move that oven. The unit sold for $105. I should have bought the unit, rented it for a month, moved all the other stuff out and sold the oven from the unit.
I believe I could have had both units for under $400, even with continued bidding from the other people.
Oh well.

Hey ya get lazy you pay. You either want to make money or you dont. But I did the same thing last weekend on a unit full of yard care equipment went for 350 bucks There was a couch and tree libs I didnt want move. I was lazy so I let the other guy make a huge profit.

You had the right idea in the last two sentences. Don't let fear of the unknown stop you from biding on certain types of units. Yes, it's possible you could lose money, but if you are in this for the long haul consider it paying for your education. You know restaurant equipment will come up again and you will have to bid on it with no more education and experience than you have now. So to everyone out there your choice is to take a chance now, or continually let good units get away! Of course, if you are negatively effected by temporary failure don't take my advice.  ;)

On the restaurant unit , I would of quietly asked the  Manager if it was possible to rent the unit , or did they have it all ready rented out ?
When I was bidding on the one 30 footer and ended up winning all 3 from the same person .                   He offered Me 30 days to clean it out , and we rented the last one   for 15 days more .
We condensed them as fast as we could ( Dump Runs etc. ) and just sold the heavy stuff  right out of the unit's and took a dump run and a load to our storage locker each time we were there .
He also offered us a couple of other units that didn't sell , and let us go through them first .

If you buy a large unit or stuff that has a ton of heavy items in it just talk to the local manager if it's the regional or state manager doing the auction.  Many times the person doing the selling will say 2 days to a week.  Where once he is gone if you ask the local person he may give you an extension.  I found this out the hard way.  Passed on a nice full unit that I liked as it was a ton of boxes, totes, and some tools.  It sold for $250 or something like that.  I didn't bid as we only had 2 days to clean it out and I had work.  Mentioned it to one of the regulars and he was like once the regional guy is gone you could of talked to the local guy and he would of given you a week or more.  Depends on if they have other lockers that size to sale.

to add to this story i was out at another auction , all units where junk and a man next to the auction had a skate shop crammed into a unit and he said he wanted to get rid of it all , as an ex-skater myself i knew the value of all the new clothes new boards and stuff i told him i was interested but i walked to see the next unit of the auction and i come back and tell him i want to buy everything in there for 250$ ( the stuff valued at 5-6 g"s) he tells me he sold it to another guy for 160$ remind u i walked away for 1 minute and rushed back to buy it. i was pissed beyond belief!

Im starting to learn if i want something i need to be more aggressive and not hesitate one bit cus i cant anticipate that the next locker will be better.

This is why I would bring enough to buy em both.
