First, I know there are a lot of variables in both inventory (large/small/old/new/etc) that will affect your response to this question, as well as variables in seller's approaches (quick vs. slow turnover) and there are probably things I haven't thought about, but let us hear your ideas.

Personally, I turn over big stuff (beds, chests, mattresses (yuck!) quickly because I don't want to move them or store them.

But on little stuff (better quality) I don't mind hold them for months sometimes (usually they will sell faster than that).

As an example: If I were paying $150 a month or so for a good sized storage locker I wouldn't mind holding on to something a little longer to make better money. If I had an item (say a double seat camp chair) that I wanted $20 for, I would keep it instead of selling it for $10 NOW. This would apply to many items in many categories. They don't take up much space and when I get the bigger $ figure it doesn't take many sales to plain pay for the storage area and essentially make it "free".
I realize the camp chair is a summer item also, but you get the idea.

I try to make most of my money back on a few "key" items, and then move the smalls as fast as possible.  I still get money for them, don't get me wrong, but I like to make room for new stuff.  Space is always a problem.

When I took economics in college they taught us the time equals money.  The longer you hold onto something the more you need from it to really make money. I would rather turn stuff quick then sit on it for years.  I have plenty of stuff I have sat on to long so I do not always practice what I preach.  I would rather sell an item for $10 now then wait 6 month to get $20. Now on a $200 item I would be more willing to wait longer then on a $2O item.  A really cool item I do not care how fast I sell it. I have taken sellable items to goodwill just to make room before but they are cheap items.

I have limited storage space, which I hope changes soon. So I am inclined to make my money with certain items which I hold firm on price, even some furniture. But for the majority of the rest, especially the the common stuff, I try to get rid of as quickly as possible.

The only thing I will hold on too for very long is Old Wood Furniture, I have found I get a much better price on it if it has been refinished. And wait , wait , here it comes............Bagless Vacuums!!! Yes that's right Bagless Vacuums, I will take them apart and clean them stem to stern and I can get any where between $45- $165 depending on the make and model. By far the easist to work on are Bissell's so don't ignore those nasty bagless vacuums.
