Storage Auctions

My find of the day.

My find of the day.
« on: January 20, 2014, 07:19:57 PM »
I went to an estate auction Saturday just for something to do.  Normally, the auctioneer would run all the boxes of crappy stuff first, and then the good stuff.  Which means that I had to wait for hours. The only thing that I wanted was some old books.  I did end up paying $33.00 for the books, but there were 5 boxes of them.  There was a few copyrighted in the late 1800’s and a lot before 1915.  There was one book that got my attention.  “Junior Birdmen Standard Aviation Dictionary” 1935 co-authored by C.B. Colby.  I Googled it and found plenty of information about it, but no one has any for sale.  Looks like a good thing for Ebay.

It might be a seller, but I got to thinking. I wonder how many books (old or newer) are published which never see much action (then or now).

Check out this link which talks about books being for sale in dollar stores and at Amazon.

I've found  few books from the late 1800's and now and again someone asks me bout an "old book" they have.

I looked one of them up...was selling on eBay for $7.  Lots of variables in book prices I would guess and age isn't probably the best of them.

Yes he has.  The good thing of it is, he after he co-authored this book he didn't write his first book until 15 years later.
Prior to that in 1943 he became aviation editor of Popular Science magazine.  As with everything we get, it isn't worth nothing until someone gives you cash...
