Removing rust & scratches from appliances
« on: July 25, 2013, 12:46:26 AM »
Just thought I would share this with you. It might help you make a little extra money on those ugly appliances.

A few weeks ago I bought a washer and dryer that had some tiny rust spots and scratches on them. I surfed the web for a solution and the only thing I could come up with was CLR or rubbing compound. Neither product works on rust. So I got on an appliance forum and the guys told me about a spray paint made by Rustoleum which is specifically for appliances. So, I picked some up and it covered and treated the rust spots perfectly. The appliance spray paint comes in three colors...white, black & almond. I was worried that the paint wouldn't match the original finish, boy was I wrong. It looked great and blended perfectly with the original finish. Probably would have looked even better if I had put a coat of wax on afterward.  All in all, it was $5 well spent.

I'll have to give it a shot.
I have an old mixer I rebuilt and needs paint. Since I'm out of the shop I no longer have easy, daily access to the paint booth.
Maybe I'll try the almond......

Thanks!

Had a refrigerator about 20 years ago that was the beautiful 70s gold. Yuck! Took us a couple of days as we taped everything to get a good finished product. I believe we used two cans of the appliance paint. It turned our great. We also did the green stove with heat paint. The things you do starting out with little money.
