Rule #9:

Always carry a knife. (LJG)  ;D

In the still somewhat free parts of the US, we replace Rule #9 with: Always carry a gun.

Rule #2:

Never tell anyone on the auction trail you made a good score on a storage unit!  :)

Rule #3:

EVERYONE is competition, you have NO friends at the auction.  :(

Never believe the sob stories.

Today, this lady asked me if I would lower my price because she was giving me everything she had and had three kids she needed to feed.

I didn't want her kids to go without so I agreed. Plus, she was spending $1400 on furniture and I didn't want to lose the sale.

I had to wait for her husband. When he got there we were talking and he tells me his wife is heading to the hair dressers to spend a hundred bucks on highlights.

I'm sure she appreciates your contribution.

Yep, the truly desperate tend to either have too much pride or too much shame to admit they are in true dire straights. When people try that sob story, try to get it for nothin stuff, I just tell them about the charity furniture store that gives out free donated furniture. Funny how the people who are so down & out get offended when I mention the charity shop.
