Storage Auction Mind Games

Recently, I saw someone acting like he was bidding someone up when he really wanted the unit. Does anyone understand how this strategy could possibly work?

I personally don't put too much thought or effort into mind games or strategy.

I know what I'm willing to pay for a unit, I guess I never really put much thought into whether to bid back and forth with someone slowly or whether to jump up in hundred increments to make them know your serious and are going to take the unit at whatever price it goes to.

I can kinda see how you could play it like a poker game, try to read someone, etc however there's just too many people at auctions these days, its not like in the past when you knew every guy at the auction, knew the type of stuff they liked, knew the type of busines they were in, etc.

I wouldn't say I have one bidding strategy, just kinda play it by ear, if it seems like the other guy wants the unit I'll save us both some time and just throw out something close to the highest I'mwilling to pay othertimes I'll go up $25 at a time. No real strategy though.

I generally just go for it if I want it. I dont bid people up just for the hell of it. It is kind of frowned upon where I live. All the vets here are well freindly, and have same mind set, they want it, they go for it. However I do slowly bid or jump the bid up high. Depends on who I am bidding against.
