There's nothing like that rush!

I think we all have to admit that we get a natural high when we're buying a storage unit at auction. Some get it while bidding or even once they've bought a unit. Others get it when they're digging through a unit or even when they find something amazing. What part of the process causes you to get that rush?

For me it's the bidding process.

I like digging through boxes but nothing beats finding something valuable that you didn't expect.

For me, it's the sale after everything is processed. I especially love it when I can sell something to someone who REALLY needs it. For example, a family who can't afford a new sofa, or clothes, etc. Being able to help someone who needs it, and still being able to make a profit really gives me a thrill.

That's quite noble of you.

Let me clarify.. I don't go looking for less fortunate people to sell to.. But when I do, it feels good. I hope we all feel that way.

I love the bidding as a lesson in bidding, and getting to understand the bidding process (I believe if you are going to do something, learn as much as you can about it).  I get palpitations when it comes to digging in unit.  I love the units with lots of boxes. It feels like Xmas to me!  The only problem for me is once I have finished going through everything, I experience a real low.  Kinda similar to someone  who does drugs.  I actually get a little (and I mean a little) depressed that it is over and cant sit still til the next one.  I watch the show on tv and sometimes have to shut it off because I either get too excited about getting out there again or angry that they found such good stuff and wish it was me.

BMoney....

You are a PRIME candidate for a major meltdown. In your present state you might bid too high and get stung badly.

There a couple of folks on here who can relate to that.  In the beginning of this endeavor is the BEST time to go slowly.

There will always be more auctions. Your chasing the next "big one" is going to be a sad experience for you if you buy and buy and the satisfaction isn't there. Yes, it is like a drug....take control.

Before retiring, my whole career was in sales...so even now...after the bidding, after the dig, after the research ( and I do like all that)...the big rush comes when the potential buyer says " I'll take it"

I hear what you are saying Movie Man.  Believe it or not, I think I have worked on the issue a little bit since my last auction.  I am sure there are many others similar to me, mostly newbies.  It is something I respect you veterans for.  I also respect the knowledge you guys have about what is  worth what and figuring out how high to go.  It is really cool when someone looks into the unit and says I can get that for this much, and that is worth this much, etc.  I have spent a ton of money buying value guides on all types of items.  Toys, electronics, books, antiques, collectibles, etc.  You name it I have a value guide on it.  I try and spend at least a half an hour reading through them and trying to learn that way.  There is nothing like experience, but when you are new, that isnt an option and something you can rely on.  It will take me quite a while to be able to do what you guys do, so for now I have to try and learn all I can to cut down on overvalueing.  I can thank my ADHD for this problem.  I try to remember to take an extra Aderall before an auction.
