Why are big items so much easier to sell quickly?

My bigs are nothing special but I swear I get double and triple the emails on big furniture at decent prices then I do on clothes at great prices for nice jeans and such.  What gives?

I ask because I overbid on one unit(by about $35) but the bigs are going to get me outta my overpaying.

It just amazes me.

Btw, scores from the last 2 units are a pair of Coogi Jeans and Jean Jacket(on eBay) netgear NIB router, JP printer(looks new) bunch of Art Van furniture(partical board, but still!), more lamps, clothes and shoes for my huge ass garage sale I'm going to hold in march(yeah glad I have Totes to hold those smalls).  One piece of .925.

The bad, bread that turned to black mush, dropside crib involved in recall, junk f'ing mail, I know where the gold in this unit is, dumb fugg pawned it, unless it's in the two baskets I haven't gone through yet(I know don't expect it, lol).

I am not sure this explains it all, but here is my thoughts. Clothes are in huge supply in this country and you can get brand new clothes very cheaply as a consumer with just a little bit of effort. Foe instance, at the flea market where I sell it is hard to for me to sell name brand jeans for more than $2-$3. Even if I drop the price to $1 they won't sell fast because of the issue of right size for right person. The reason it is hard to sell is because other vendors are selling new with tags, name brand jeans and other clothes for around $5-$12 depending. Most people are comfortable spending a few dollars more on new with tag clothes compared to used. Furniture is a little different because if you are selling a dresser, lightly used, no major damage for say $250 and the same one brand new is $500 + tax, that is a BIG difference in the consumers mind.

Yet, these are the same people that will clip coupons for five hours to save 1 dollar on groceries though. I just don't get that mentality.

Why go through all that trouble to save a dollar on food and then not try to save money in other areas? There is no logic in that. When it comes down to it you're saving just as much on a pair of discounted jeans percentage wise as you are when you buy the dresser used or car used.

Most consumers aren't thinking percentage-wise. I've worked in retail long enough to know that a lot of average consumers don't really understand percentages.

That said, they may be willing to try to get the $500 dresser for $250, but not apply that effort on the $20 jeans for $5. Even though, in this example, the jeans are a better percentage deal, most people are going to see the actual dollars saved when deciding what to buy.

If you clip 5 hours to save a dollar you arn't doing it right. Couponing saves us 300-400 a month.

Other then cloths (see same issue as above) - the smalls sell better for me then the bigs.  I had a nice oval drop leaf table on craigs for $100.  Never got any bites except for the junk mail people.  Then I hauled it to the flea on 3 different trips and cut price to $50, and then once at $40.  Lots of looks but still no takers.  Post it on craigs last sunday night and had 7 emails the next morning.  Sold that day.

Have a 2003, built in Vietnam, solid wood 6 big drawer, 2 1/2 size drawer dresser on craigs now.  It does have a 1/2 inch hole on one end like someone took a drill to it.  Few other nicks and scratches but would make a great kids dresser.  Have it up for $150 and only 1 person emailed so far, then he stood me up.  Yet, I sold both heaters, some tools, and few other things from the same unit the first time out with them at the flea.

Just all depends on your area I guess.

I would like to see a thread about saving money by couponing, and get the inside scoop on how it's done.

Lol Cobia - instead of watching Storage Wars go watch the Extreme Coupon people.  Then it's off to dumpster dive, massive amounts of organization, etc.  While those people irk me when I get behind them in line I still respect their drive and dedication.  But this is all for another topic...best in "The Dump" section :)

U gotta look for items your particular area wants. For example i go out on the block now on saturdays highly hispanic area. I know one they are broke for the most part, but learned two that they are willing to spend whatever money they may have on something they really want. So dvds i cant hold on to. Girls clothes fly. Im happy if i can get 2 bicks from everyone that walks by. Just learn your clientelle.
