eBID vs. iBid
« on: October 23, 2014, 05:13:10 PM »
I'm sure everyone knows that one of our friends here (eBID) is co-founder of an online storage auction service called eBID Storage Auctions, well there is also another service in this niche called iBid4storage.

eBID & iBid are very similar names. Just wanted to ask eBID if the name similarity was taken into consideration when the company was formed or did you not realize that iBid existed? That would be understandable since iBid doesn't rank very well in the search results for any of the industry's best search terms.

Do you think there are any competitive advantages or disadvantages of having a name so similar to a competitor?

Also, isn't there a large eBay style auction website called eBid? Any affiliation?

The name eBID Storage Auctions was drawn up with no consideration of ibid4storage being a similar name.  I think we were aware of their existence, and also of the existing eBID site, but we wanted to capture the notion of online/electronic bidding for storage auctions, so we landed where we did.

No affiliation whatsoever with the other auction site named eBID.

It's also a plus that when talking to customers / operators, we can just say "eBID".  Short.

It's funny, I don't know why, but I still have trouble remembering which way ibid4storage goes.  ibid?  ubid?  who bids?  I can never keep it straight.

Have you had a buyer or a storage facility confuse you with the other site?

Yeah but I'll bet iBid gets all of the Apple people as customers. :)
