Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Lookey Loos Part 4....April, 2011
« on: April 22, 2011, 12:11:02 AM »
I've been to two auctions in a row with a crowd of 25 or smaller. Both of these auctions were advertised on auctionzip, and the last time I attended auctions at these locations there was easily 50+ people in attendance. Two is not enough to start talking about trends, so I'll just enjoy the moment.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Nice lavender flashlight...
« on: March 30, 2011, 10:11:53 PM »
So, I broke my old mag lite this morning. (didn't realize it had fallen out of the truck and I ran over it) So, I stopped by the hardware store and the only bright led mag lite they had was a color called gun metal grey. I grabbed it and headed off to auction. I wasn't there 15 mins when I overheard someone say, "Nice lavender flashlight". When I realized he was talking to me I looked down, and I'll admit it does have a purple tint to it. I would have probably been really embarrassed if I hadn't been so fixated on the fact that a basically toothless man in torn Carhart coveralls knew the word lavender and actually used it to correctly describe a color. Anyway, I think I'm going to spray paint this thing...http://twitpic.com/4f1mxo

Reality Shows about Storage Auctions / Re: Storage Wars....Spring 2011...New Episodes

I spoke with one of the guys in production on these shows and they said the way they do it is they have the actual auctions before they start taping and then once all of the units are sold then they come back and "recreate" the auction using actual sales prices, etc. for TV. So its mostly real, just jazzed up a little bit for TV.

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: What is the best way to get rid of unsellable trash?
« on: March 29, 2011, 10:19:34 PM »
You'd have to be specific on "unsellable", and how much you are talking about. Tractor Trailer full vs. pickup truck full, etc. My grandmother would use a pretty neat trick by selling boxes full of misc. items at yard sales, 90% loaded up with stuff she'd throw away and throw a few items that people would want and charge $2-5 bucks calling them grab bags. Always sold out.
Also, this may not work in Pineville, but I've literally emptied out 50+ storage units filled with nothing but trash by putting a free ad on craigslist. People will take anything if its free. I just had two guys get into an actual shoving match at a storage unit over "free" scraps of metal.
Good luck!

Stories about Storage Auctions / An ambulance at a storage auction? The storage facility's worst nightmare
« on: March 28, 2011, 11:44:38 PM »
I was at a storage auction a few weeks ago and this lady fell and broke her leg. We are talking bone sticking out of skin here folks... Thats not the crazy part, the auctioneer (who started the auction off with a very intense prayer) came over and layed hands on this woman and began literally screaming for God to "Heal this lady!!!". She didn't get up and walk, but the auction did go on.

I'm a huge mopar fan as well. My dad's hobby was restoring them when I was a kid and teenager. At one time we had 18 Mopars '67-'74 on our property. What do you own?
