dont hate.....I plan and do all my scheduling the day before I dont have to use any pay sites as I find that following American Auctioneers is more than adequate to find and buy lockers.

Your right....I made it all up...I really spend 10 hours out of the day going to american auctions cuz that is where the money is at. I like to look at the locker when they roll up the door and stand there....I make sure I bring a really big flashlight(goes with the truck) cuz I saw it on tv ...ya with a handle and I wear sunglasses. You see I stand there with the big flashlight and the sunglasses and I stare at the contents pretending I know what Im doing, I like to take a really long time so I can study the contents.....helps me maximize my profits when I win one of the ten for the day.

I also make sure to have one of those small containers of gatorade..(throat gets sore from yelling YUPPP all day) dam this locker buying is hard work.

Ok.. I dont really buy 50.00 lockers I buy those high dollar units... come on you know the ones.......1,000.00 1,8000.00 2,5000.00... YA BABY ....fillin the truck with the WOW factor and mystery...thats how I pay my bills.

So now that we bought our unit I dont do any of the work, hell noooo....I hire two guys out of the Home Depot parking lot, I find they are very trustworthy loyal and hardworking. As long as we dont have to drive through any check points we should be OK. I dont do any of the lifting except for my wallet...dont want to get my shiny silk shirt dirty or dusty.

Thank God for Dan Dotson ,American Auctioneers and tv ...If it were not for this auction company I dont know how I would learn to make a profit.

There is no such thing as Whitmore auctions in Ca. Topeka KS. yes

Well, the wordS MODERATION and COMMON SENSE come to mind. I would guess that even YOU pass on some of those cheaper lockers if you don't see profit in it

along with common sense and a sense of smell...hopefully the noobies can figure out the  advice stinks!!

I just have a hard time believing anything you write about, you can get a new osscilscope brand new for 1200.00 TODAY...not even used on Ebay but brand new!!

You claim to have only been doing this for 8 yrs now you mention you have been doing it for ten yrs... I will give you this..you are a great story teller..

What Auctioneers in CA. other than American Acuctions makes the buyer by by the piece? Because when I went to my first and only by the piece auction it was the old timers that left in droves like the great exodus grumbling and mumbling the whole way out on what a scam it was. I now see these same guys on the circuit as I am a respected regular and they want nothing to do with the by it by the piece auctions!!

The merchandise is over priced, you cant get any volume for your money...as it is by the piece..so when its over the people buying just paid retail. How do you make money doing that?

Please enlighten me, Im not being sarcastic I truly want to know the secrets to this madness.

I cant believe what Im reading...buy it by the piece auction is the worst way to buy merchandise, and in CA. the only auction company I have seen do this is American Auctioneers, went to one one time...first and last what a nightmare. There were over 200 people running up the prices on junk that hardly had any value to begin with. What a scam and they know it. The buy it by the piece auctions are really taking advantage of of the publicity and crowds....its the crowds and the publicity that is making them auction off each piece for maximum profits to the auctioneers and the storage unit owners.. pay attention people this is where it gets important....DONT GO TO A BUY IT BY THE PIECE AUCTION, I guarantee you will be sorry for wasting your time and money.

For the prices the junk was going for they might as well sell it by the pound.

Two thumbs up to you majblade...Your ten steps hit the nail on the head!!!

These are guys going to auctions running up a 50.00 locker to 800.00 + dollars and then coming here and telling everyone how deductive reasoning and chance is making them a profit...LMFAO..

Ill buy my 10 50.00 units for the day ...no deductive reasoning, no chance, no luck and make money everytime..

New to Storage Auctions? / DONT BUY WHAT YOU CANT SEE!!
« on: April 29, 2012, 10:44:04 AM »
I know when I get to the auctions and the door goes up ....most of the lockers just look like trash, unmarked boxes, old furniture etc. I take an inverntory in my head of what the items are worth that I can see...PERIOD. Its really intimidating to me to throw my hard earned cash at anything less. Im baffled at the Knuckleheads throwing 1,000.00 + bids at boxes and junk....looking for that golden ticket they think they are going find..becuase they just watched storage wars on tv. It just doesnt happen like that, or maybe Im doing wrong..lol.

I expect most of the "mystery box" buyers to fizzle out soon once they spread the word on how that worked out for them...or maybe they are just keeping quiet because i have not seen one post in here where some one wrote about ...YA DUDE I paid $1800.00 for a locker full of boxes..mystery boxes and they were all filled with collectibles and not dishes and towels and personal photos...I made a fortune. LMAO

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: FINALLY Bought My First Unit
« on: April 29, 2012, 10:18:29 AM »
I first want to tell you congrats on your purchase!!!!

I had bought a similiar unit a couple of months ago.....it also had office furniture, shelves, office stuff etc. Had I not bought multiple units at that auction the day would have been a total loss. Hopefully the market is better where you are at but here in CA. no one is buying office furniture and know one is buying used kitchen equip for a new restraunt ventture. I was able to scrap most of the stuff to break even on the unit, less fuel, labor and of course my time.

I chalk it up to the learning curve and getting a pulse on the local market.

I agree with everything I just read, my wife has bugged me for years (even before the tv shows) to buy storage units, being above average smarts and already running a sucessful business it looked like alot of work then and it looks like alot of work now. I can now verify that yes it is alot of work and the starting out the profits dont seem to be worth it. I can also verify that the tv shows are total bull****, it just seems odd to me that every week these guys are pulling out something to even be considered for appraisal let alone the 5,000.00 and up collectibles. I also find it strange they know right where to go with the very item that would fit perfectly in the store or shop they go to for the appraisal. LMFAO

If you can pick out the units that have not been tampered with and you go on a day 150 knuckleheads arent there to drive up the prices there is money to be made. I geared up for buying in bulk with a 20' box truck and have a pretty good routine going ....but I will say it again.......its alot of WORK.
