Fortunately, I do not drive a tool truck. We have 8 distribution points around the country so I sell through catalog. The great part, I make my own schedule. The bad part, I travel all of Florida so I am home on weekends and for a week once every 8 weeks. The worst part, there is rarely an auction in my area when I am home (working on changing my schedule a bit).

Do what tow companies do. Inform them via certified mail that they will be charged $50-$100 (depending on what you want to charge) per day for storage. Also inform them that if they do not respond within 30 days they forfeit their rights and are required by law to free up the title. Get a lawyer to draft a master letter or check with your local tow companies (very similar circumstances)

I seen it last night as well. Not nearly as good as Storage Wars. I really think they should put quotations around the word Tru in TruTV! All of their so called reality shows look like bad acting

Go to google and type in: your state storage unit auctions. You can also call the storage units in your area and get on their email list (some do not go through the auction companies and do it themselves to save money).

General Storage Auction Talk / My first auction today

Had a busy day planned today. Auctioneer had 5 locations listed with multiple units. Last night I looked at the update and it was down to two locations. One and hour away from me with one unit and the other 20 min from me with 5 units. We stayed back for the local one. Get there and there are at least 50 people there and only one unit would be going up for auction. The auction started 30 min late (that surprised me since so many of the others were canceled).

Door goes up and it is a 5x10. I see a few boxes, paint cans, toys, cd rack, a couple of misc cheap chairs and an office chair. The unit went for $675.00, hell first bid (called out prior to the start) was $250.00. Me and several others sat their scratching our heads (must have been something none of us seen :-\

Is this to be expected? If so, I can not see anyone making money from doing this.

In my town they have regulated garage sales. You have to pull a permit for a garage sale and you are oly allowed 2 (maybe 3) per year at your address.I hate code enforcement. Naturally, there are ways around it.

What I hate about doing a garage sale is the haggeling. Do you hold off on garage selling until you have exhausted craigs list, ebay, etc... or are garage sales profitable?

So you have bought a unit or two or more, you have sorted through and divided your stuff and it is sitting in the garage, warehouse, etc... Now what? From what I have read I have made assumption;

collectibles - specialty shops and ebay
small stuff that is easy to ship - ebay
electronics - ebay and craigs list
furniture - craigs list and local paper
clothes (non-designer) - garage sale
any of the above - flea market and auction house

Is that about right? What do you do to offload your stuff and maximize your profit?
