What's it Worth?? / 'Made in Italy' Glassware
« on: October 05, 2011, 10:43:53 PM »
Was wondering if anyone had any tips for telling good glass. I have two bottles, one is a 'blue moon' decanter with a cheap paper wrap and appears to have been painted blue. The paper wrap proclaims 'made in italy' but no markings on the bottom. The other is a duck/goose decanter that comes apart at the neck. Its almost like a wine bottle. It has made in italy engraved on the bottom. It has a good bit of weight and I'm thinking it may be amber. Here's a pic, would appreciate any advice/help.

General Storage Auction Talk / The Insides (TV)
« on: September 24, 2011, 06:05:44 PM »
With the recent topic of what to do with old TVs, and myself just buying a locker with two in it; pictured here: http://storageauctionforums.com/index.php?topic=1672.30

So here are a few photos of me taking it apart, and the goodies within.

The TV with the case off, it was pretty interesting to take apart, had never seen the inside of this type of TV.

One of three lights, spools of copper wrapped around.

What a pretty sight!

A portion of the copper that was pulled.

I also found some alluminum pieces, and quite a bit of heavy scrap metal. In some ways it was time consuming, but not if you dont have anything better to do. If anyone is interested, I'll post some pictures later of the smaller TVs insides.

What's it Worth?? / Question on Art (Poster, Ceramic)
« on: July 16, 2011, 09:06:33 PM »
So these are the two coolest things I found in unit #6, guess that says alot!  :P

The picture is a Bertram Mills Circus Poster, done by Dudley Hardy. Based on the size of mine and the prices I've been able to find, I think its worth a little over $100. The other piece I have no idea, prolly a $10 piece of pottery but it did catch my eye for some reason.

My question is, how have you guys gone about selling art-work? Online, auction house, local dealer?

The free section on craigs, wondering how many of you guys ever check it out? My GF brought up the idea, and I was pretty doubtful until we started to do it. I was very surprised at the quality of items people were giving away. My best turns: Sold a futon for $100, and an entertainment center the very next day for $60.

I'm having a big yard sale friday/sat for the small items from my units, been using the free section to bulk up on my inventory  ;D.

I finally bought my third locker today. (Paid $120, $60 of which I made back immediatly after purchase) Ive been jonesing pretty hard for one, and it turned out to be pretty good. It was the locker of a man who owned a Chicken and Waffles restaraunt, and he seemed to be into some pretty shady things. But, the good:

Coca Cola Items (Clock/Umbrella/Ice Chest Etc)

Harley Davidson Leather Bag/Throw Blanket

Stockpile of un-used supplies, which I organized for sale as neatly as possible (Straws/Napkins/Boxes/Plactis Silver/Menu Covers, etc etc... most all of which is still wrapped in plastic)

Other Misc Goodies: File Cabinet, cool window grates, matching photo sets, clean clothes that are actually my size/style, pretty high-end cologne, decent home-camera nude pics, and an electronic scale for weighing drugs, or other small items one may choose to weigh. I say this man may have been into bad things because of the amount of baking soda and small baggies found. But still a solid score!

I'd like to know what you guys think I could get for the coke stuff, but more so the restaraunt supplies. Would I be low or high balling for $100?

Thanks for letting me share guys /

All day auction and all I got was your classic $10 unit. Couch blocked most of the contents, crappy tables stacked on crappy tables.

So 5 decent things came from this unit; A blue rockaware baby hat for my little boy, a clean blue $30 hoodie with tag still attached, a unique kitchen table that needs some serious work, and two headboards with mirrors in them. The rest got trashed!

Pic of the unit:

Pic of the decent stuff:

I really thought the kitchen table was unique, the way the sides swing out to extend it. But heres my question; can anything be done with the particle wood headboards? I know nothing about restoring, but a friend of mine says you cant restore particle board. They each have mirrors and lights attached, but should they of gone to the dump too?

Long time reader, first time poster. I thought this would be a good time since I plan on making my first locker purchase within the next week. Been going to the local ones for a few months, getting a feel for it and seeing what kind of money I would need. I feel like Fayetteville is an interesting market. Home of Fort Bragg so big military town, and re-sale is GREAT here. But it also seems to keep crowds small (10-15 on weekdays, 20+ Weekend).

I plan to take pictures and post here when I win my first, so hopefully you'll be hearing from me soon!
