eBay / Postal Scale
« on: February 21, 2012, 10:11:54 AM »
Can anyone recommend a good reliable postal scale? It's getting way to cumbersome having to go to post office 15-20 mins a pop having to ship and get proper postage.

Thanks in advance!

Stories about Storage Auctions / Stand Alone Freezer
« on: February 10, 2012, 04:35:43 PM »
I won an auction last week and in it was a stand alone freezer. I plugged it in and it lit up but it does not get cold. It is an older model to be sure. I'm not exactly sure what to do with this thing, It'll cost me $90 just to have some one look at it, which if i choose to do the repairs half will be applied towards repair costs. If i choose not to do the repairs i'm out the $100. That fact that it's older is making me lean towards NOT going this route.

Is there a market for broken down stand alone freezers that i'm unaware of? Perhaps for parts? I'm in the allentown area. Anyone have any suggestions? Should I just bite the bullet and get it repaired? Or...?

Thanks in advance for this fantastic forum and it's members!
I look forward to reading your replies.  :)

Stories about Storage Auctions / Won my first unit of the year...
« on: January 11, 2012, 09:47:56 PM »
went to one of my regular auctions spots and was surprised the turnout wasn't horrendous.  3 Units up for auction all 10X10s:

1st unit: was obviously a local pool hall (one of the 30 that have shut down in the past few years no doubt) Had 2 pool tables showing, a couple of beer signs, Beer sign lights, and some bar stools. Boxes in the back couldn't make out what was in them. People went friggin nuts over this thing went for $7200!?!  i was like this is gonna be a looong day.

2nd unit: Floor to ceiling boxes, garbage bags filled with clothes and a couple of lamps (the kind you get at walmart for $15. I set a cap of $200 on it. Bidding started much more reasonably, ended up going for $325 a bit high by some standards but thats pretty much the norm.

3rd unit: again a ton of boxes, some duffel bags. a beautiful tool box in the back, a dining room set with 6 chairs stacked so you only saw their backs and legs, china cabinet, and 2 sets of luggage. nice Samsonite sets a black set and a red set. Set my cap at $450 Reached $400 in seconds then the bidding slowed down and I won it for $430.

I was pretty happy with this buy... till i got a closer look at that dining room set, beat to hell. The chairs either have ripped seat cushions or NO cushions. the china cabinet has a huge hole in the back. Duffel bags were filled with clothes, and the boxes mostly personal items.  the tool box might be my saving grace. Looks like i'm going to be lucky to break even with this damn thing.

Not the way to start the year... Still waiting for my "Dave Hester hitting a 1000% gainer moment" ::)...

General Storage Auction Talk / Creative solutions are the best!

Back in October I bought this unit for $25 all it had in it were 16 tires (4 complete sets) but they were completely worn...

I tried listing them on craigslist at $100 a set no one bit
Then I tried listing them for $50 a set still no takers
Next set $25 a set got a couple of calls here one asked for $20 a set and would take all 4 i said ok. NO SHOW. ugh.
Finally I said screw it I'll wait till next year and deal with them....
I go get an oil change for my cargo van at my friends garage and happen to mention the total PITA these tires are, he asks to take a look and we go take a look he likes them but won't pay so he offered me 70% off all service for my personal car and cargo van for 1 year! Worked for me, that's like money in the bank. I will most certainly come ahead on this deal now. ;D

So moral is don't give up you never know how you're gonna rid yourself of your inventory!

Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Hello All
« on: December 28, 2011, 10:16:53 PM »
Love this forum! Been lurking for months finally decided to join, hopefully I can add some value to the community while continuing to learn as well! Been at this about a year now, treating it as much as a business as possible. Separate bank account, closely tracking expenses and profits on excel. Still haven't hit a 10,000% return on a locker like good old Dave Hester, or even for that matter anything huge. At this point it's safe to say I'm clearing expenses and making between 50% to 110% of what I paid for a locker. So if I bought a locker for $200 I'm basically bringing in $300 to $420 selling its contents, then taking out my expenses i have a bit of profits. My goal is just to stay steady and hopefully eventually hit a solid 200% or better locker.

Thanks all for taking the time to read this, may 2012 bring us all prosperity and Pirates Treasure!!
