West / Re: Legally Required Auction Notices in Sacramento area
« on: July 21, 2011, 09:59:51 PM »
California Business & Professions Code Section 21707 requires that, prior to a lien sale, the storage facility must publish notice of the sale in "a newspaper of general circulation published in the county where the sale is to be held."

I have looked into this, and the Sacramento Bee (online) does not have these notices, nor have I seen any in the last month (never looked at it before that) in the Penny Saver.  I have not looked in a physical copy of the SacBee, is it possible that they print something in the paper but not put the info online?

I guess my question is, am I missing where the Sacramento area auctions are being advertised?

I live in a small Mountain Community and a small portion of the Storage Auctions in this area are listed in our small town paper. I asked one of the Storage Facility Owners why he did so. His reply was " I post in several small town papers, so it gives me the circulation I need  and the cost is approx. 1/10 of running the ads in One Large Newspaper." I can tell you this much he still gets plenty of traffic and one thing everyone there likes is he does not charge Sales Tax like most the other places do.

So you might try looking in some of the smaller publications in your area!

Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Re: Hi from California

A fellow Californian, welcome! Let us know what part of Calif. you work as you may run into one of us at an Auction.

I went into to work late this morning to catch this Auction as this facility normally has good quality units without to many people. Well approx. 35 bidders 12 regulars and you guessed it prices were high.

11 units total, first unit a 5x5 just had stuff on the floor nothing stacked and really nothing of interest, but 2 noobies went head to head and it went for $65.00. Those of us that regularly go to this facility looked at one another a shook our heads as we knew how the day was going to go.

All in all most units went over priced with only one of us regulars buying a unit and @ $875.00 it wasn't a bad purchase as it had mostly High End wood furniture and expensive lamps,  as well as nice wood bedroom set in this 20 x 20.

The $65 unit was the low and and a unit that went for $900 was the High this one was a bidding war between 4 noobies going up $10 increments, wow we were wondering in this one was ever going to end. This unit had mostly bags of clothes and household items with nothing looking too good.

All in All things haven't changed to much as far as crowds and high prices.

If they got it for $325.00 then they got one hell of a bargain!

This being a Formula 400 brings value to a Pontiac Fan. I my self have had several GTO's. If I was a Firebird Fan or thought I could turn around and make a quick buck I would not hesitate to bid up to $2000.00 for this car. If it had the engine a 400 CID then I might go as high as $4500.00 as there is still a Market out there for this type of Muscle Car.

Note if it has a factory 4 speed I may have gone a bit higher.

What was the final Bid?

Entertaining Show I catch it once a week and it puts a different spin on Pawn Shops compared to Pawn Stars. It seems more like the way a normal day at a Pawn Shop would be in Detroit. Some really funny things happen on this show.

About 2 1/2 years ago one of the guys I work with asked if he could borrow my trailer to pick up somethings he bought at a Storage Auction. So I told him yeah and I would help him load it.

The unit he bought had a foosball table, air hockey table, misc. boxes and some small furniture. So I asked him how much did you pay for all this? When he told me he won it at Auction for $65....I was like what! Really!!?

So I have been doing it ever since on a part time bases, unlike many of you that make a living this way. However I will retire one day and then it is GameOn!!!

We are starting to see more Facilities take credit cards for payment on the Bid, however it is always a Cash  Deposit for the Cleaning. At least that's seems to be how it works out West. Your area may be different.

Damn, I'm not one to say I told you so, but I have been saying Barry was an actor from the beginning. He just struck me as the Hollywood type.

tc I didn't see where he said Bary was an actor?

"All the buyers are real buyers with the exception of Barry. Barry has friends at OP and the wanted a character who was not a Pro."

I think Barry just knows people at (OP). JMO

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Small Town Facilities

Small Town Auctions are no guarantee that the crowds will be small, the last two Small town Auctions I hit a month or so back had a crowd of 45-50 people. Did get a cheap locker there, but still good size crowds.

I hear ya Movieman and I don't want this site to go that way either. I have been doing Internet Marketing for the last 12 years and learned the hard way about Spam & every site is a bit different.

The format here is really good and I , like you would like to see it stay that way. Nuff said!
