Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Bought a winner today!
« on: February 22, 2013, 08:08:12 PM »
That's awesome! I saw 13 lockers today. 10 were crap... 9 in North Durham, NC.. aka "the hood" 4 in Clayton, which is lots of farm land, suburb type area. 3 pretty decent lockers, but there was a big crowd. 50 or so people.. bidding got too high for my liking. Bid on a locker with a couch and oversized chair with a mis-matched washer dryer (Whirlpool and GE) and a couple of side tables.. maybe 3 bins and a kids bike. I bid up to $350... gave up after that. Ended up going for $420.

This wasn't by chance ran by elite auctions was it? I'm from NC area and sounded like it might of been him and his over paying bidders.

Not from storage auction but in estate auctions I buy wheel chairs and walker for under $5 and sell them quite fast.  I got an antique hospital bed for $1 that i sold for over $50 at auction but other than that not to much luck

Had not been to an auction in a month or so but decided to go to a four location run.

First location had four lockers mostly junk prices went from $17.50 (old tv and beer caps) to $155 (box spring, pocket book and boxes). I didnt bet over $45 on any locker.

2nd location has 14 units and one consigned unit. Prices went from $1 (foot rest and lamp shade) to $425 (home gym and bed set), the consigned unit was a hair salon that closed down unit went for $775 which is the highest unit prices i've seen on over a year around here. Funny thing is they said the unit owner has three more boxes of items she would sell to winning bidder for an additional price. I was afraid that it would be something really needed to sell the items and it would cost to much so i didnt bid. I did bid on two units a 5x9 with boxes, dvd player and a rocking chair and some bags went up to $75 and quit ending up selling for $120 and a 5X18 packed full of old tv's, bar stools and a leather coach with some boxes ending up going to $200 and quit went for $270

3rd location has seven unit and two cars, units went from $21 (old coach and beat up stove) tp $525 (butcher tables and chainsaw). Cars went for $275 (69 camaro) and $240 (99 ford explorer i think). I bidded on the Camaro but it was basically scrap and two units that went a little two high because on playstation box.

4th location gave away a free washer and dryer to the first to sign up and I was the second  :'( which is the firstr time i have ever seen that happen. They only had one unit and i got it for $350 basically some suitcases, pocket books, lamps and other flea market stuff. Got it for a jewerly box which broke me even after i found a little bit of 14k gold and found a a/c unit in the back of locker so should make a good profit. This tentant had over 400 books inside of the unit and around 300 were books on divorce and child custody other were get rich quick and church books.

Two more auctions this week, maybe i'll find something since prices are starting to come down.

Thanks guys. Is it smarter to use buy it now/best offer or auctions or is it just depending on the item most of mine are collectables since I sold big items on Craigslist. What about reserves do you guys use them at all?

I was planing of posting some ads on eBay this weekend to get rid of inventory for the first time. Can anybody give me the basics/tips that can help me from making newbie mistakes. Dose eBay charge you by ad or commission? I heard you had to pay to upload more than one pic or to add a subtitle is this true?

Off on fall break decided to hit up va for a auction. Units sold for 5,5,60,670 for the first four Units. I got the last one for $180 (195 with Bp). It's was a 5x5 with a 3ft mini fridge, 19 inch bulk tv, truck, bed suite in bag. Turned out truck full of school supplies paper, white out, pens etc. The 1 mystery box had a hp printer, ps2 with games, zippo lighter and some type of speakers. I may make a little on it but not a killing.

Out of you guys who barter what's the craziest thing you have traded or traded for? I'm not into bartering unless I can make a fast sell but some guy offered me a black angus bull calf for a set of Dewalt power tools. It kinda blew my mind quite a bit tbh.

Finally got to look over my stuff not a lot to write home about got a lot of Dewalt, hitachi and greenlee tools an tool box with couple of fishing pools. Mini safe was empty and found box of gold and silver but gold is fake but silver is real but only is worth $5 max. I'll make $750-800 on the tools and such and another $200 on other things in the unit. So should make $250 profit after the split.
