Welcome to the Online Storage Auctions Forum / Re: Indiana Here
« on: April 04, 2011, 03:21:28 PM »
hey welcome. good luck with future auctions. if your only avalable on saturdays that makes it a little tougher but still can be done.

i went to a police auction this past saturday, i really enjoyed it, if you already have experience with ebay and resale you could probably do good with those auctions. those auctions you can actually pick what kinda products you want and knowing price points is for resale on stuff is key.

im more of a casual ebay seller, an for storage stuff ebay is a last resort if I cant get rid of stuff otherways. Honestly im kinda scared to sell on ebay anymore especially high dollar items. I treat ebay like loaning money to family, if your not willing to be out product and money dont list it w/ their buyer favoring policies.

I was just curious from smoene who used to be a powerseler. What made you leave ebay? What types of items were you selling? Is being a powerseller worthwhile, what kind of extra perks did you get?

Also heres a few Indianapolis auctions for you to get started with...

Craigslist / Re: Craiglist tip

Good tip, I always continue to repost like you said because you want to be seen  by people browsing not only by people searching for your specific item.

I normally don't take down my old ads however you have a good point with that. Especially with cars. When I'm searching for a specific make and model and I see the same guys ads for the Cadillac Eldoraro $2000, few days later $1800, few days later $1600. I know there's not much interest or its priced too high for cl and know I can lowball them.

Not a good idea and not a cool thing to do. If you attend auctions regularly your probably on friendly terms with the facility manager and auctioneer so why would you do that to them?

Aside from that like movieman mentioned I'm sure they would hit your credit. Is gettting rid of a few hundred bucks worth of trash worth the thousands extra you'll pay on credit cards, mortgages, cars because of your hit to your credit?

I'm too lazy to message you for the link so would ya just post it already...lol

Flea Markets / Re: Miscellaneous Flea Market Stories
« on: April 03, 2011, 12:41:57 PM »
yeah people at flea markets can be a pain. you can get those money markers very cheaply if your concerned about counterfit. i take big bills for small items but normally charge them a couple bucks extra for the exchange if they dont have anything smaller if they still wanna do it cool.

Ill take change as well although i always have bins of tshirts a quarter a piece.

Some of you may disagree but personally I think there's kind of an unspoken etiquette that if you got 5 units on a slow auction day don't continue buying every unit, leave something out there for others.

I should have been more careful with my words, forgot movieman likes to pick at and play semantics with everything said by everyone.

Movieman, great job you got another post under your belt and contradicted me, hope your proud of yourself.

My point being I wont run people up just for the sake of runnign people up. If you run others up you'll make enemies and others will run you up so its just not in your best interest to do it.

Also, with so many people at the auctions these days if you run someone up there's another 40 people with money so your are not really accomplishing your goal of taking money out of people so there's less to be bid later b/c with so many people there's always plenty of money around.

I see people who all day will run others up on units they have no itnerest in just for the sake od doing it.

The only time I will run someone up is if they are taking 3 of 4 units at every facility all day long. Also, I wont jump in on units I'm i not actually interested in. If I bid and the guy who already won 10 units bids on me even after I'm no longer interested at the price point I may hang on a lil longer

Movieman, unfortunately not by the lot...I WISH...man I thought the bikes were never going to end. The auctioneer was going into great detail about every bike as well, would not only say the brand and model but talk about this one has the dual springs the bike is actually two parts that connect with a suspension, yadayadayada yada.

I had heard they were like this and would have liked to go like 3 hours into it but wasn't sure if you had to register so got there early.

Tons of jewelry and with gold and silver prices so high even ugly stuff coudl be good money for scrap but I got there an hour early adn still wasn't able to sit at the jewelry counter to inspect stuff. Jewelry was sold in lots, they would put watches, rings, necklaces, etc in a plastic sleeve almost like a baseball card sleee. They would fill each slot so some bags were full of crap costume jewelry adn others were filled with what looked to be engagement ring, chain, watches, etc. Those tended to go fro anywehre from $100 - $250.

In Chicago we have a lot of boosters so lots of stuff still factory sealed with store tags. There must have been 2 dozen of these camping cots still in boxes.

I'm curious to see what teh US Marshals auction is like. They probably go after higher level criminals so I'd guess nicer stuff than just what some crackhead boosted from Walmart.

My next mission is to check out a post office auction.

Basically a lil bit of everything several sets of skis, about two hours worth of bikes some really expensive bikes like fisher mountain bikes. First 2 hours of auction was nothing but bikes. Lots of video games, WII, xbox connect, etc still in origional packaging, some sports memorbilia, lots of dj and recording studio equipment.

I picked up a few flat screen computer monitors for $30 and my best pick of the day was a home theatre projector I got for $200. It's an In Focus model so not top of the line but definately a good buy, still factory sealed with carry case. I'll probaby keep it for a few weeks and plaly some NHL 2011 on my xbox and then sell it.

Next week going to check out a US Marshals auction mostly cars but also some jewelry and other stuff.

The Lounge / Went to Chicago Police Auction yesterday

Went to a Chicago Police Dept auction yesterday. They have it right near 26th and California which is a notoriously bad area and of course they make it a cash only auction so you gotta go into this bad neighborhood with a couple thousdand bucks on you great lol.

I was pretty happy with how prices were. Some prices got crazy but other things were really low. For certain items people were paying over retail for stuff but other stuff was deals.

There were lots of lots of 100 burnable dvd's which you can get on ebay for $15.88 free shipping and people paid as much as $25.

I was surprised at how much stuff was still new in wrappers, factory sealed, etc.

I agree tc, there's really no sense in bidding others up.

Were all just out here trying to make a buck, why make it harder on each other. Bidding others up thinking they will have less money has to be one of the stupidest strategies ever.

Maybe back in the days of 5 people at an auction you bid someone up and they are low on money they wont buy and it helps you but these days with 20,30, 40 people at an auction you make one guy go broke there's more than enough people left to still bid against you.

I agree also that once someone starts more people start doing it as well.

I have bid people up on occasion but never just for the hell of it the only times I'll run someone up is if they take every unit that comes up the whole day.

That's pretty good in terms of numbers. In my area no matter how bad the locker its tough to pick up anything under $100 these days.

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Another source of Junk Silver

Not from an auction but today I was at my grandpas house having dinner and he had $800 worth of quarters he was about to take to the bank. I sorted through them.

He had roughly $800 in quarters, tahts somewhere between 3000 and 3200 quarters. Sorted through them all and found 2 pre 1965 quarters one was a '63 and the other a '62.

A tip if your looking through large numbers of quarters. It would take forever to look at all the dates. Grab the equivalent of a roll of quarters in your palm so they are a cylander and look at them. Anything thats not copper on the side is either a silver quarter or a brand new quarter that hasn't had the edges rubbed off but it cuts down on sorting time

I'll always look stuff up on ebay just as a quick reference but I dont use ebay as a guide for value, especially for collectible stuff. Often times the price you'll get if you actually seek out collectors is completely different than ebay.

I was doing some research online and guys were saying $18 to $60 where as like you said on ebay I saw several for under 10 bucks. Mine isn't in the best shape though.
