The Treasure Chest / You just never know...
« on: November 04, 2013, 05:56:31 PM »
So I bought a unit several months ago and there was this stupid poster in it. It has been laying around here in my way and I keep moving it not sure where to put it. It's a poster for a reunion concert for Cream from London in 2007. Psychedelic crazy crap in my opinion and I have never heard of the band. I know old posters can be worth alot of money but this one doesn't fit into that category. Anyway I decide to look it up and see if it has any value before I throw it away. To my surprise the dang thing is worth somewhere around $500.00. They only made 250 that are signed by the designer and have an embossed logo. Guess this is one for e-bay. You just never know what you have until you look into it. Glad I didn't just throw it away.

First let me say I have a store with a chain link fenced area so having something like this would be great but... It is the wrong time of year to be selling pots. They would most likely sit most of the winter. I would have set a limit at 450.00 if it was spring. Right now I would only go $300.00. Sometimes you have to think about how well this stuff will sell during the current time of year and how long you will have to wait to get your money back.

With all of that silver you should really take a good look at the crystal. It could be worth more than the silver if it is really high end.

General Storage Auction Talk / HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
« on: October 31, 2013, 01:37:32 PM »
Another successful Halloween is almost over. Costumes have been flying out of here! I am getting a reputation for some of the coolest costumes in my area. Just another reason to love Halloween.

The last couple of storage auctions in my area I have seen less people. Hope it continues this way but at the auction barn this is the time of year that it gets crazy. Cold weather equals lots of people and high prices. My usual $5.00 end table will now go for $35.00. That is the way the seasons go so you just have to be prepared.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: WASTE OF TIME - read before censored

I come to this forum to find and share information with others that do the same thing I do.
I have used online auction sites in the past a couple of times and have had a good experience. There is only one facility in my area that conduct their auctions this way and they are very through in the information they give.
I have never had a post deleted but I don't usually get involved with all this drama. Seems to me that is all that is going on here lately which is really a turn off. I don't blame Travis for deleting such drama because if new people to the forum are reading this it looks very childish and petty. Not the kind of information I started using this forum for.
Just my two cents.

Check your local auction house. We have one here where the silver pieces go for stupid high prices. There are three buyers and they don't like to be out bid.

Garage Sales / Re: Have you ever run and Estate Sale? Any hints or tips?
« on: October 28, 2013, 05:15:33 PM »
Thanks for the info Alias. I have helped with this sort of thing before but never ran one myself. I do have the store so I'm not worried about figuring out the pricing part. I really want to get this all done before the holidays start.
I love the signup list idea. I will defiantly be doing that. I am thinking about doing colored stickers and putting up a price chart to make pricing easier. I think that will make it quicker to get the cheaper stuff done.
I am a list maker so I have several with different idea. Now I just have to see exactly what I am dealing with.

Garage Sales / Have you ever run and Estate Sale? Any hints or tips?
« on: October 28, 2013, 10:14:15 AM »
I'm thinking about running a family friends Estate Sale. I will be going to see what is there tomorrow. If I do this it will be huge. This is a home and business. One down town Santa Barbara city block. I am thinking I will probably have to split it into two weekends. It will be lots of work but also a potential for a huge profit. Will know more tomorrow. Any thoughts or ideas would be great.

Two facility auction today. Six units at the first one. About 50 people with 33 bid numbers handed out. 10 regulars and the rest newbies. First two units were junk. They went for $60 and $25. Next four were good. Most expensive went for $525.  I bid on one that had a couple pieces of furniture and some art. Went for $150 and I had set a limit at $125.
Second facility had three units. Not all that were at the first showed up at the second. First unit was trash $35. Second unit was dirty furniture with no surprises $20. Third unit was stuffed with a mix of good stuff $625.
Not totally great but six to seven months ago three of these units would have went well over $1000. Maybe things are calming down? Only time will tell.

It really depends on the item. Having a store is a little different than selling elsewhere. If it is everyday common stuff I like to flip it quick. Customers usually come in looking for the unique items that are hard to find.
For instance I still have the Remington Bronze that I scored at the beginning of the year. I have put a $3000.00 price on it and have been offered $2700.00 twice to which I turned down both times. I know that it is only $300.00 difference but it pulls people into the store so I have no want to really sell it.
Now and everyday chair or dinning table I want those to go quickly. They are a dime a dozen so moving the fast is the best thing in my opinion.
