eBay / Re: What is your "return" policy on eBay ?
« on: January 13, 2014, 11:32:31 AM »
I have it set to a 14 day return policy, but in the description I say I only accept returns for DOA, damaged during shipping, or significantly not as described. If I have a item marked as is (ie parts or repairs only) I state I only accept returns on damage during shipping or significantly not as described. Have not had a problem yet with returns. Only had 3 items returned, and they resold quickly for the same or more so no big deal.

My auction on the 20th was kind of a bust, not any great units, and the one I got for $125, I'll make a couple hundred on, so not too bad, but not great either. :(

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Has anyone found pre 1900 photographs?
« on: December 30, 2013, 02:14:50 PM »
I found an old album with leather cover from the 30's with pics from a civilian conservation corps camp. sold fo $100 on eBay. Picked up a box of old photo albums and loose photos from 1850s -1930s at a swap meet for $50. sold them all in different lots on eBay for around $250. They were a navy family with alot of southern cali pics, hawaii pics and panama canal pics. Pretty interesting stuff.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Does Anyone Sell Textbooks?
« on: December 30, 2013, 02:03:49 PM »
I use bookscouter.com. They have a app for smart phones. I just sent in a little over $400 in books the other day. If the books are not worth much I put them in the store for .25 cents.

I don't remeber which site it was, but the last time I sold books to a site like that, they had me print a shipping label, I shipped them off and never saw a dime from them or the books again. Hard for me to trust sites like that. Also you can prob get more selling them on eBay. Use that site to figure what they will give you, add 30%-50% and post on eBay. eBay is where I bought all my text books in college. good luck

Have an auction tomorrow with 15-20 units, hoping there are a couple of gems in there. Will update after the auction this weekend :)

As far as I know and understand printed material or recordings is all fair game. I wouldn't ship an encyclopedia set any other way. To expensive. I have shipped Records, books, dvd's and cds with no issue. Half the time when dropping it off they ask what it is, but have never given me any problems. Media mail is the only mail they are legally allowed to open and inspect without proper cause. Just because it is so much cheaper, people try to game the system.

The Lounge / Re: Why aren't there used tool stores?
« on: December 16, 2013, 04:24:21 PM »
In my limited experience selling used tools (2 8x20s full of tools at 1 auction ;-)) If you have them priced to move, they sell very fast, price them to high and people would rather just go buy new. I think it would be very hard to keep a constant inventory of used tools while selling enough to keep a store open.  You'd have hundreds or thousands of tools in the store when you opened and then the next month you would have 50 or less becasue you sold them already. I don't know if I'm making sense, but I think it would be hard to keep up stable inventory, unless you had a source to acquire the inventory for you.

The Lounge / Good lenders for purchasing a self storage facility.
« on: December 12, 2013, 01:53:03 PM »
This is random but kind of related. Anyone know of any reputable lenders that deal specifically with loans for self storage facilities. Been thinking for a while about investing in the business. Want to compare different lenders and what they offer. Looking to see what LTV they require, what if any prepayment penalties. How easy they are to work with. etc. Any ideas suggestions are appreciated.

I haven't bought since October, been pretty slow around here since then, plus I fractured my elbow, so that hasn't helped. Have 1 coming up on the 20th. 5 days before Christmas, here's hoping everyone is broke and I can score some good units for cheap. :)

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Anyone bought a really bad unit lately?
« on: December 09, 2013, 10:08:45 AM »
Yeah, I bought a unit about a month ago or so for $30, total crapshoot, 90%+ to the dump or thrift store. I did end up selling about $100 out of it so wasn't a total loss, but not worth the effort of cleaning it out, luckily it was only a 10x10 about a third full. Same day though I bought a 8x5 for $50 that I have sold about$400 out of so far and still have at least my best guess $400-500 still to sell out of it. Took only 1 hour to clean it out and no garbage so really made up for the other one.

Garage Sales / Re: Garage Sales seems to be the best
« on: December 04, 2013, 01:13:44 PM »
Yard Sales and eBay have been the best for me. Over the last year, my split has prob been 40% yard sale 40% eBay 20% other(facebook groups mainly/craigslist). This past year I pulled in approx 24000 gross off about 15 units I spent about $5000 total on. I hit 2 really nice units which helped my ratio alot. Luckily I have not lost money on a unit yet. Here's hoping the streak continues. 8)

eBay / Re: eBay, UPS, Postal Service
« on: December 04, 2013, 10:50:11 AM »
I have ordered several things, that were shipped out via UPS or Fedex, that arrived throught the regular USPS mail. I do not know how they determine when to use USPS and when to deliver it themselves, but I have never had an issue.

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Facebook site
« on: December 03, 2013, 10:53:58 AM »
I have my own facebook page(not group) I have set up to sell some of my items. I also am a memebr of several groups in my local area.(Nothing but drama going on there).  My page is www.facebook.com/sellingmyexcess I have about 250+ likes now. I post links to my page in the groups and it gets me a fair amount of traffic. Things have slowed up a bit as of late. Don't have too many shippable items on the page, only because I throw those on eBay. Don't think it is worth it to pay facebook for ads. I live in a pretty remote area and don't have the population to justify it.

Craigslist / Re: Scam or real deal, opinions?
« on: November 20, 2013, 02:41:05 PM »
Sounds to good to be true. $100 comission whether it sells or not? I would love that opportunity, but just like I would never use a dropshipper, I wouldn't deal with him unless i could see the product firsthand. My hard earned eBay seller reputation would be on the line. Only would take a few bad deals and screw up your eBay feedback royally. I would personaly forgedda aboudit.

eBay / Re: Is EBAY super slow lately or is it just me?
« on: November 20, 2013, 10:57:35 AM »
My eBay, sales have been slow this past month or so as well, also sales have been pretty stagnant on the local facebook groups. A buddy of mine said people are holdig onto their money until black friday, after that sales should pick up. I hope he is right. I may just have some of my items priced to high, but if I can't get what I am looking to get, it isn't worth the time and effort. Here's hoping sales pick up after Black Friday, i have quite a few things that would make great Christmas gifts.  :(
