The Lounge / Re: Basketball Cards
« on: March 21, 2011, 05:07:56 PM »
Cards are worth so little I'd either give them to a child, nephew, etc or hang onto them to give them to my kids someday. Not even worth teh trouble or money you can get for them.

What's it Worth?? / Re: How to value things
« on: March 21, 2011, 05:06:42 PM »
Good point, also thanks for the tip on the radio the other day. I wound up looking up bing crosby special and found a ton of stuff bout these radios.

Though I'm not giong to get rich off of it should get me a decent buck and seems like there's a pretty big collectors market for them.

I'm probably going to give this one to my grandpa as he likes stuff like this but your right, someone told me it was worth about 75 to 150 if I remember correctly.

I havn't put much time into research but just a quick ebay search shows that $130 seems to be the going price for ones in not working condition so I imagine mine is worth at least that as the radio works, havn't checked the record plalyr yet as I did't even know it was also a record player lol.

Another good point is not only should you now let people tell you value who are buying from you and not only shoudl you not under value items but when your scoping out a unit don't overvalue things.

I see a box of Noritake China for example I could be like yeah I know replacements sells eac piece for like $26 I got over $500 worth of China. The reality of it thoug is that's an inflated price and there's not much of a market for it so you'll be lucky if you can get rid of the whole lot for $26/

One of the guys on our regular runs went down to CA for a couple of weeks and went to some auctions and met him at an auction.  He said he was actually pretty decent in person.  They weren't filming any shows when he was there.  He also met Jerrod at another auction.

Your probably right thats probably more an act for the show. I still don't like him though lol.

eBay / Re: Ebay Started Charging Final Value Fees On Shipping As Well
« on: March 20, 2011, 09:45:34 PM »
Just a tip for some of you. Some may now consider rolling shipping costs into item and doing free shipping on items. I personally don't like this.

THere are a lot of buyers who game the system, try to extort money back, free shipping, with the threat of bad feedback or try to game the system and get items for free.

If you don't charge shipping and a buyer pays $15 for your  item and they do a false chargeback your out that entire $15. If you sell the item for $10 and charge $5 for shipping for a buyer to game the system they won't get that $5 shipping back plus they will have to pay for return shipping. Doesn't make it as good of a deal for them to screw you to try to get a free item. Also doing it this way will not allow you to get burned on shipping fees if you do have to take a return.

eBay / Ebay Started Charging Final Value Fees On Shipping As Well
« on: March 20, 2011, 09:43:31 PM »
I'm sure you all know about this and maybe you've used this tactic as well.

Ebay started charging too many fees so people started trying to roll costs of items into shipping costs as ebay didn't charge final value fee on shipping costs.

Ebay has now stared charging final value fees on the total item price so auction or store cost of item plus shipping.

Sure this stops people from dodging ebay fees but now they have essentially made it so if you put a realistic shipping cost your actually losing money shipping your item.

I wouldn't do business with him just because he's such a douche lol

Craigslist / Re: Do you sell small dollar items on craigslist?
« on: March 20, 2011, 08:34:47 PM »
Yeah, I can't wait for garage sale season. My neighborhood limits me to one per year so got have them at girlfriends house, friends houses, moms house, etc lol. That and cant wait for the outdoor flea market. I hate the indoor one, such a pain unloading when I go by myself. Outdoor I can pull my truck right up to my spot.

The Treasure Chest / Re: Philco 10664 Antique Radio

TC you seem pretty knowledgable about these. I'll have to post some pics of my specific one and see what you think of it.

If $75 is the price range I'll probably give it to my dad or grandpa as they like this kinda stuff. If I'm able to get a little more maybe try to sell it.

Thanks for the info.

The Treasure Chest / Philco 10664 Antique Radio
« on: March 19, 2011, 04:21:01 PM »
Ducked out of work for a few hours yesterday to check out a couple auctions. One unit was two laundry baskets with a blanket over each nothing else.

Auctioneer tried to start the bidding at $50 nobody bid, I called out $5 and they started there, a guy bid $10, I bid $15 and got the unit.

One basket was full of mosaic bathroom tile probably about 23 sq ft. Looks like expensive stuff to, stuff that in store would be like $18 a sq ft.

The other basket looked under the blanket and there was a Philco 10663 old radio. I found a pic of one online, I'll post pics of mine later. Mine is actually in much better shape than this one. Mine isn't mint but looks like it has had some restoration and it plays

Curious to see what it brings.

Gotta pay for Obamacare somehow!

Sorry, what was I thinking. If I find over 10K I will definately contact the IRS. I wouldn't want Harry Reid to lose his Cowboy Poetry festival, lord knows we need my tax dollars to pay for that.

I have to agree. I personally havn't and won't get involved with these types of auctions. I don't trust them I also don't think it makes sense for buyers or for storage facilities.

Also, some facilities in my area have several auctions per month not always a lot of units but several auctions throughout the month. I don't know of any facilites near me that only have one or two per year

Lol, this post made me think of the movie True Romance where the guy winds up with a suitcase full of coke and has to figure out what to do with it, doesn't end well for him and his wife.

I'm surprised drugs aren't found more. There's been a few instances in my state where cops have found storage units packed full of drugs. I'm surprised people don't come across units with them more often.

As for cash, how many people would actually contact the IRS? I mean yes of course I would contact the IRS...lol. Seriously though ,they rape us enough, what entitles them to 25% for doing absolutely nothing?
