eBay / Re: Do you sell piece by piece or as a lot?
« on: February 08, 2011, 07:37:16 PM »
Yeah maybe should have taken them out of the wrappers. Got them in a locker. Was going to be a good good guy and return them but saw the post marks on the envelopes and Netflix had probably already charged the people for those movies like a year previous.

I'll pm you with 3 auctions in your area.

eBay / Re: Do you sell piece by piece or as a lot?
« on: February 08, 2011, 07:19:28 PM »
I got a bunch of DVD's, just listing those as a lot.

I had a bunch of nice womens clothes recently. Did one round piece by piece most of the good stuff sold, selling whats left as a lot.

That's often my strategy, piece by piece on ebay what doesn't go after a week long auction all gets tossed into a "lot" auction.

eBay / Do you sell piece by piece or as a lot?
« on: February 08, 2011, 07:00:04 PM »
I guess it probably depends on the item but what are your thoughts?

Do you like selling things piece by piece or as a lot?

I just finished listing some DVD's I found, doing them as a lot rather than piece by piece. Sure you normally make a little extra on shipping so piece by piece may reap a lil extra money but then you also got titles that wont sell where if mixed in as a lot people wont mind one crappy movie or one bad piece of clothing.

Flea Markets / Re: Anybody?
« on: February 08, 2011, 06:31:15 PM »
Flea markets totally very. Some are mainly antiques and stuff I find boring while others are knives and other cool stuff you dont need but always buy, bootlet colognes, movies, etc.

Some are indoor some are outdoor some are both. Some are mostly just normal people selling stuff in their garage while other flea markets its people with full blown stores set up inside.

My fav one is a more informal outdoor one however since were in winter I go to a large indoor one outside of Chicago. Kind of a ghetto crowd, hard to move stuff in and out of, kinda a far drive for me it does the job though.

The "Other" Job / I want these guys job...
« on: February 08, 2011, 05:44:02 PM »
Was recently at an acution talking to some other regulars I'm friendly with.

We had never really talked work before so were talking about what we all did. I have a 9-5 I have to go to everyday work for someone else not myself.

These handful of guys were all HVAC Guys, construction, all did their own thing in the past but with the economy dont have much but the odd job every now and again. They all said their wives worked and they did side jobs from time to time but were doing the auctions most days.

This was one of those auctions where we were waitng like 3 hours for the aucitoneer to show up. After all this time drinking coffee, smoking, shooting the bull the one guy said when talking about work again he likes going to the auctions so he feels like he's contributing. This guy actually does do pretty well at auctions but we were joking does your wife know you sit around all day smokinng, drinking coffee and maybe slipping some jack into the coffee while we wait around...lol...he said he leaves that part out.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Whole Bin or By the Piece?
« on: February 08, 2011, 05:40:09 PM »
I wont go to piece by piece auctions. Seems pretty obvious that good stuff would be gone by the time the general public got to take a look.

I'll pass on the nasty old thongs and socks knowing you took the gold, electronics and antiques.

If there's a whole circuit on a day going from town to town I may start 40 miles away if it follows town to town and ends near my home.

I'll also drive further if there's a ton of units at a facility or I have a good feeling about the town but I try to keep it close to home.

There's really not better things 30 miles further away plus there's more than enough auctions in my immediate area for me to go to.

I saw one guy on a blog giving advice saying dont go more than 2 hours. I woudln't even think about it.

I dont have a big truck so some units involve multiple trips, my recent auction probably about a dozen trips, luckily it was like 2 minutes from my dads house so moved everything to his garage.

I hate Dave...lol... his auction call is annoying as hell and he's just kind of a classless, obnoxious jerk. Putting his locks on units he hasn't won, waiving 10k around in people's faces.

I get hoping others run out of money is kind of a strategy but common were all here just trying to make a buck, hard enough as it is why go out or your way to make it harder on others, plus your going to make enemies and wind up paying more for units you like anyway.

Jarred or whatever the guy who's got the wife, he would be my fav if I had to pick one. Think he's kinda dumb but I guess rooting for the underdog.

Have you seen his resale shop? They showed it on one episode just for a second. Shelves were totally bare there was like a doll on a shelf and nothing else.

Most I ever paid was $3300. '96 Dodge Stratus, 90's Honda Nighthwalk, a couple Cannondale bikes, 2 armoires, snowblower and then the rest of the normal household stuff.

Least I ever paid was $5 for a headboard and 2 pillows. Didn't even really want the unit but was at auctions for like 9 hours and figured I coudln't go home empty handed.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: oops i did it again!

I always get excited about electronics but always forget you can get a pretty decent quality scanner, printer, copier at Walmart for $31.

Recently I was in the market for a new ink cartridge and realized it was cheaper to buy a whole new printer/scanner/copier canon model than it was to buy a new ink cartridge for my old printer.

That headset will go in a second though.

I agree maybe a little overboard but its a pretty simple rule to follow. I've never had anyone saying anything about leaning but when people are touching stuff and walking into the unit they should be yelled at.

Craigslist / Re: Maybe sellign smaller stuff on ebay isn't all bad...
« on: February 07, 2011, 10:59:29 PM »
movieman sorry meant craigslist not ebay.

good point with having people meet you 2 min from your house problem is im in a wierd in that im super far and a pain to get to from expressways so though you can get to my city from the expressway in minutes it could take you 30-40 min just to get to my place if traffic is bad. b/c of this i normally try to get a little closer to the expressway for people.

its just such a pain trying to find a common time all for a $10 sale. and if they do stand you up sure its only 5 min from home but im normally on the run all day, weekends, etc so im taking time out of my schedule and being close to home to meet that person so it is an inconvenience for me.

I thinkk this will be my new strategy though. find a day when either myself or roomate is gonna be home all day cleaning or hanging out or whatever and just schedule everyone to either look at stuff or pick stuff up that day.

Wishing I still had an enclosed trailer I had when a buddy and I were running a landscaping company but sold it last summer.

For a personal vehicle I would probably get an SUV however I've been heavier into auctions lately than in past years so was thinking about maybe getting a pickup, I like pickups but would be getting one more for aucitons than b/c I like them.

I know you can rent trailers from uhaul for like $12 a day no mileage charges but its such a nightmare getting in and out of that place they turn a simple thing like renting a trailer into a hour and a half long process.

Most of the auctions I go to I know the workers pretty well so they'd always let me use their trucks free but my fav place recently had some idiot crash their truck so they wont do taht anymore. ALso, occaionally I go to facilites I havn't been to before and sinec they dont know me they wont do taht.

Anyhow, basically considering like a nissan frontier or a ford ranger for a truck or a jeep grand cherokee or toyota 4runner for an suv.  I know the trucks arent huge but at least something you can put a couch or mattress in the back of easily.
