I don't like buying at the end of the day either but then again I don't have a place to move many of the items.  I have had good luck getting there early to pick.  I have specific items in mind i.e. hdmi cables, computer power cords, monitor cords, and nice clothing.   I once bought 20 Ralph Lauren shirts for $15 and a ton of designer baby clothes for a quarter each by going early.  The cables I usually pick up for a quarter or two each.

Even though I am new to auction buying I usually bring 5k to auctions.  I have yet to see a unit go more than 2k besides when they are filming Texas SW but just in case something shows up I don't want to run out of ammo.

Eventually I would like to have 10k.

I am pretty strict on myself especially after a couple of tough lessons about what I buy and how much.  Still the other day I think I was able to get a unit because I was confident on what I could spend.

Having enough money allows you to make decisions when something special shows up.

I don't understand the intimation factor either.  Most whales are pretty smart, that's how they become whales.  If you really think you can turn a unit just push it to your own limit.

I think you are right, bankroll plays a huge part.

There's a Mexican guy that buys most of the household and construction units.  He has plenty of money and a good crew.  He has a store in Dallas and a couple in Mexico.  He even has a catchphrase "easy money"

A lot of buyers are intimated by him but he rarely strays from the stuff he knows.  Smart guy

Still pretty hot here in Dallas but I went to my first October auction today at 1:30 so it was hot.  It was advertised as 11 units but only three when I called around noon.  Over 30 people waiting around when I pulled up at 1:20.

Not looking good.  A couple of regulars and a nice mother son I have seen around a lot.

First unit tons of clothes in trash bags.  I was shocked when opening bid was $20, still it went for $40.

2nd unit was a nice little furniture unit.  It looked like a showroom with a couch, love seat, a couple of coffee tables and some other end tables.  There was a nice dining room table in the back.  I made a play at it but when it got to $150 I was out.  Unit went for $240

3rd unit
Dream unit
Amazing 10x20 unit filled to the back. In the front was a stainless steel fridge.  I could see 4 guitar speakers with a Fender cover.  There where 2 6 ft long remote control airplanes with remotes.  Nice shelving all the way to the back on one side full.
Other side had a nice workbench with tons of tools.  Mystery boxes all over the unit, nice wooden ones, stainless steel ones, camera cases.
In the back was a guitar case.
to much to list really
If I didint know better I would have thought it was a staged unit.
The guy might have even lived there, he had a heavy duty extension cord attached to the light on top.
Anyway so I started to look up fridge on phone and I hear the bidding already to $1000

Oh well still I was going to make a play
1225 me
back and forth and its to 1400
me 1425
and then suddenly I got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The storage facility did not use a pro auctioneer and it hurt them but it helped me.
Bad news I had to run back to get kids from school and attend a meeting.  I took a quick look around and it was actually better than I thought.  I will fill in details tonight.  I think I finally have a really nice score

I recently tried to buy an iMac on Clist and theyseller replied back that she had already sold it.  It was a great price so I was not surprised.  She told me she bought three iMacs from this site and turned them on Clist

bidcactus.com/home

Has anyone tried that site or a similar one?

I am still doing storage auctions but have been buying and selling more on Clist and Ebay to supplement my auctions.  Plus I won't buy a $2000 Jeep on Ebay :)

Storage Auctions "In The News" / Breaking bad and Pirate Gold
« on: October 01, 2013, 09:35:13 AM »
Has anyone else daydreamed of getting a locker like the one Walt used in Breaking Bad.  Cause there was a good chance everyone could have died and left no one to pay it.  Though I can't imagine a storage manager not looking under the tarp.  But it did happen once with the pirate gold.

I am still waiting on the corporate check, it is suppose to be in today.  The storage facility is being reasonable and letting me keep the Jeep there until I get the check.  I will keep you posted

Online Storage Auctions / Re: Storage Battles Nickels and Dimes it's Clients
« on: September 27, 2013, 01:54:21 PM »
I understand the frustration with Storage Battles but right now they are the only game in town when it comes to online storage.  I have gotten a couple of decent units for $20 and $40 and watched in utter amazement as ok units went 2-5 times what they should have.  Nickel and dimes are a pain but if storage facilities get 2 or 3 times the amount they would then it makes sense for them to stick with it.

133
Bought a unit with a big leather couch that no one wanted to move for $1.  Took a pic put in on Clist sold it on an hour for $50 and they came and picked it up as I was chatting with storage manager.

Oh man that makes me a little sick reading it.  Like Alias300 said you could rent the storage for a month and even sold stuff out of it.  30 miles is nothing.

One of my biggest regrets was a small auction and I was just starting.  Locker opened it was full of scaffolding and some stuff nobody could see in the back.  I was inexperienced but still had a feeling this could be worth something.  It went for $80.  Now I would have gone at least $200 maybe even $300 depending on how much was there.
