General Storage Auction Talk / Re: The WOW Factor

You're welcome and congrats on the good buy !  Looking forward to seeing a few pics.
I've had HONs before and they're good.

You must have a big place to store them and if I had them I think Craigslist would be my first stop, but maybe in your city you could even do an eBay for local pickup.

Good job !

Hey Thanks...Yea..I plan on getting them all up on CL ASAP .....there is not much HON here in Tampa which is good and what is there people are asking top dollar for....

I was just looking and NEW...the brand of server tower I have goes for $300 to $400 AND SHOCKINGLY....
the blueprint file cabinets sell for $800 to $1700

This lot could be worth upwards of 2K with the right buyers  ...haha

NOW....we need Movieman to get off the computer and bump that lockers bought number up before March ends....haha

Well.... today, I had the privilege of moving the 2 units I bought stuffed full of office furniture that I bought Wednesday and boy did I sucker a buddy of mine into a doosy of a work day.

It turned out that both of these lockers were stuffed so full, we had to make 2 trips to both lockers and this was with a 17 foot box truck

I still have yet to inventory and photo all the items as just the move took about 7 hours...but on the rough side I have:

17 HON 6 ft Shelving units
12 HON Filing Cabinets of various sizes (all large)
9 Executive 6 ft Desks
4 solid wood shelving units
2 nice professional chairs
2 great lamps (office / commercial)
1 full 3 panel cubical with corner desk (Kimbal Brand)
1 8 ft tall server tower with electrical outlets
1 specialty blueprint/plan filing cabinet
1 8 ft tall commercial ficus tree (silk)
and a bunch more stuff

Not bad for my first buy at $460 total?

I think if I price it to move fast....$1,200 to $1,500 is a reasonable expectation...and that would be at fire sale prices

Now the selling fun begins!! ;D

Land of the free, home of the brave. Be brave TreasureHawk...drop your ticket link in every thread !  ;D

Haha...no ...actually I'm starting a subscription based service where I tell my users about auctions only I know about and no one else on earth knows about...not even the facilities.

They all take place after 1am, I cut the locks off random units at random facilities and the highest bidder pays me

They must have the unit broom swept clean before sun up and we are good to go

GrandTheftStorageAuctions.com   LMAO

Nice clean website. If I ever need Kentucky Derby tickets, I now know where to go. LOL
I like your logo, very creative.

Hey, thanks man!  I say drop your links in every thread here...this is America..the land of Capitalism...haha

I don't think Drew is gonna ban ya for it so .....drop away...

Yeah, I know the feeling.  I still get it on every purchase, even 8 years later.  It's like getting a good winning hand in Blackjack.......usually.  Sometimes there's a little "buyers remorse"!  LOL

I hear ya....   I would probably be more prone to buyers remorse on the higher dollar units....I saw a sweet one go for over $1900 but there needs to be lots of goodies at that number to double your cash....

It is just human nature to want to second guess your decision making ex post facto..haha  but the high is fun...it can be addicting....I can see that for sure....

We do pretty good with the Hon stuff up here.  Desks usually do pretty good too.  I imagine you will do okay on these first purchases.  Get some pictures and get it listed!

No shnit...haha  I gotta move it all to photo is as somehow, both of these units are packed like Jenga cubes
I couldn't even climb in them and look around when I was all lathered up with the "buy high" to survey all the crap...LOL

regardless of all the link dropping....I think lane is the only person on this forum from Houston...haha

I guess there are allot of lurkers who don;t register or post but still ...being that this forum is new.....15 links to anything will probably not even help in the backlinks department on google, let alone generate massive subscription sales.

In my opinion, if your going to call 1,400 storage facilities a week....you would make allot more money just using the information yourself and going to the least known of the auctions and buying lockers to resell....

Oh...By the way...I own   TicketTap.com   and I strongly suggest that all of you buy all of your event tickets there....MLB, March Madness, Concerts, Theater, Kentucky Derby.....you name it  LMAO

Yea...there is a glut on plenty of things in a down market but even if I sell the $400 filing cabinets for $40 each I will make my money back. Plenty of peeps with home offices need filing cabinets

that is the bulk of what this stuff is.....just have a gut feeling about this ****...It's what I know

I plan on going out and buying more next week for 2 or 3 days of tours...I'm not afraid to have to hold some inventory...It's gonna take allot more the $460 worth of inventory to make any decent bank ...haha

Hey....all very good suggestions and really well thought out responses by everyone in this thread

Now this forum is cooking with gas!  haha

Oh, and by the way....I POPPED MY CHERRY Today.... I found out (just by it occurring) that most all the bidders on this circuit are only interested in "Individual" or residential type units

They roll up the door on one and it is an entire Real Estate companies offices...HON filing cabinets...nice desks...office chairs...and it is ONLY me and one other guy bidding.....I got the unit for $160

We move to the next facility and the same thing happens door goes up only this time it was an absolute metric ton of office furniture...I could see at least 4 executive desks and about 6 or 7 HON filing cabinets...plus like 300 dollar huge commercial silk trees, artwork ....both packed full

this crowd seemed not to know how to process the business stuff...and me and the guy go at it again...win that one for $300...

When doing the paperwork...I see that the tenant was Hannah Barlottea Homes....who is a well known, very high end custom home builder here in town.....  this unit was so full to the brim I couldn't even get in it at all to see everything...but based on HB Homes and the mansions they build...I bet it will all be sweet!

I know most businesses are going out of business and not into business but over the years, I have always done REALLY well with nicer quality office furniture....especially HON filing cabinets.....Craigslist has a ton of surfers in the business (goods) for sale section and everything will sell there....for a price

I can't imagine not at least doubling my money on these 2 units as they are both full and clean...

Now I just need to move this ton of stuff to my place and the fun begins....one filing cabinet and one of the desks are already presold to guys I know so looks like I'm in the business for a while anyway...haha

Just really strange that this entire crowd would go to war with one another over old TVs and dirty rugs and bit those units up to 600 or 700 but walk away cold from high end office stuff....bizzare  haha

no, I've been out for 4 full day tours of duty now...haha

I'm not just looking for treasure...Overall, I'm looking for better goods that have resale value and potential and not 20 year old, beaten up dressers with the knobs missing and rugs so filled with cat piss the auctioneer is complaining about it

Well, the flea along with eBay is one of my big money-makers and I don't sell "crap" there. A bad day at the flea is $300 and IT DOES HAPPEN, but a $650 or $1,000 day isn't bad either.  Where did you intend to sell?

Wow....down here, we tried the local fleas numerous times over the past few years (even right before xmas) often with homegoods from Macys trailers we bought and we didnt even sell $50 worth all day
and I am talking selling stuff for a few bucks that is worth 20 or more

I have always done well with "better goods" on craigslist  I've liquidated entire households and offices on there for big gains and met some pretty good buyers

I was going to focus on online sales with CL and ebay and they consigning the rest of the stuff to thrift type stores....I've called on 3 or 4 and all of the are interested in looking at goods and either buying them outright or taking them on consignment

I guess maybe I should revisit the fleas but I have heard that up north and in CA they are allot stronger than in FL??

And reality sets in QUICKLY !  What happened to "...failure is not an option !"  Come on, give it a chance.

Don't get me wrong...I didn't have a distorted sense of reality...I knew this would be hard, hard work ......I just thought I would be looking at a percentage of better goods.

My misstep was assuming people were not dumb enough to pay to store tons of old dirty, worthless garbage

As I have said, i have spent many years doing hard labor in my warehouses and I am not afaid to bust my ass or get dirty....I just need to be able to sink my teeth into some nice goods.....

Failure still isn't an option  but if I can't get started in the business, I can't fail...haha

I know  Positivity, Patience, Persistence....probably tomorrow, i will find and buy an incredible unit and be in here high as a kite...lol  its all a game and I do enjoy playing it.....  I've simply met my cat piss and rat **** quota for the day
