Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Aukward Experience
« on: January 28, 2011, 06:34:09 PM »
Hi,
I've had 3 units that I bought and the owners approached me.  I normally take their name/number and wait until they are gone to clear out the locker.  I then called them later to see what they want/needed.  The first one only wanted an old tape player and some personal items.  He paid me for them.  And the other 2 only wanted their personal papers/pictures back.   I delivered them after I went through everything.  There were tears from one of the owners, but they all were grateful!  Healthe

Hi Everyone,
Well, my husband and I went back the next day in 19 degree weather and brought it all home.  I was ready to retire from doing this after that day.  But, I feel better about it today.   ;D

Here's what I've found so far:

Round glass top coffee table
Long glass top coffee tables (2)
Glass top end tables (not in good condition)
Glass top TV/DVD stand
Tall thin speakers
Tall blond dresser
Metal shelving units for garage (2)
Small metal/wood bookshelf
Kodak Easyshare digital camera C513
Nice hat boxes
Nice lampshades (4)
Tall vases (one metal, one wicker)
Vintage barrel footstool
Unique wine holders
Kids Rollerblades
DVDs/CDs/VHS
2 Oster blenders
Cuisinart coffeemaker
Wall pictures & decorative mirror art
and much more!

I still need to go through the boxes.  I did get rid of lots of scrap metal that was in the unit.  So, all and all I'm pleased with what I found.  Healthe :)

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Bought Five Units Today.

Hi,
Wow!  That's a lot!  Do you normally hire people to help you haul it?  Just curious.  Because I normally work by myself or my husband helps sometimes.  I've even hired guys from the auction to help.  Healthe

Hi,
We are not allowed to go into the units until we pay for them.  So after I paid, I went and looked around inside the unit and took a small car load home last night.  I did find a nice mans watch, few tools and a Cuisinart coffeemaker.  Those should bring in some money.  I'll report back later on all my findings.  Healthe  :)

Stories about Storage Auctions / Auction today in 28 degree weather!
« on: January 15, 2011, 05:47:54 PM »
Hi Everyone,
I went to an auction today in Michigan with 20 units for sale.  There were about 60 people there.  It was freezing!  Units went for $20 to $875.  I did end up buying a small unit for $130.  I have a few days to pick it up, so I'll let you know what I got when I get it home.  There was some decent furniture, kitchen items, home decor, VHS tapes, stereo speakers so far that I've seen.

Talk to you later!  Healthe  ;D

Hi,
I taped it last night and watched it this morning!  Love it!  I won't say what happened.  But I will say it was an exciting episode!  Healthe :)

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Pictures of Auctions
« on: January 10, 2011, 09:34:29 AM »
Hi,
Our computer crashed and I lost everything!  Including my storage unit pictures.   :(  I had a picture of a unit I paid $60 for that filled up our 2-1/2 car garage.  Most of it went to the dump.  But I still made over $2000 on it from books, etc.

I'll be going to an auction this weekend that has over 20+ units right now.  I'll be sure to take a picture if I win one this week.  Healthe :)

eBay / Re: I hate fees!

Hi Milton,
So sorry to hear about your Ebay experience!  I've been selling on Ebay for over 9 years now.  Most of my experiences have been good.  But it only takes a few to make a bad day!  Hope that you don't give up!  I would take a chance and email the buyer a nice letter explaining to them that you're new to selling and that you made it right by giving them a refund and if they would please remove the negative feedback for you.  It doesn't hurt to ask "nicely".  Just my 2 cents!  Healthe

Looks like the spam is back in the topic called South now.  There's 190 of them!  Do they really think that we are going to buy from them?  Healthe

Hi Drbecker,
Thanks for your input!  Great advice.  I have so far broke even on the $160 unit and I still have a large toaster oven, surround sound stereo, diamond ring, along with lots of clothes to sell.  So I didn't lose.  But, you just never know.

Take care, Healthe :)

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Most Profitable Sale EVER!
« on: December 06, 2010, 06:40:24 AM »
Congrats on your profitable sale!  That sounds like a great idea if you have lots of stuff to sell.  Thanks for sharing!

I remember when my mom was trying to sell her house and we had a garage sale all winter long, every weekend at her place until we got rid of stuff!  She had lots of nice things to sell!  We had the same people coming about every weekend.  It was fun!

Flea Markets / Re: Free Flea Market
« on: December 06, 2010, 06:35:27 AM »
Hi Drew,
Yes, our area has lots of opportunities to sell during the winter (indoors).  Some are reasonable ($10-15) per table and others are more expensive.

I normally get rid of my odds and ends at my garage sales during the spring/summer.  Or I help my family/friends with their garage sales and take stuff over there to sell.

How about you?  Do you sell at flea markets also?  Healthe
