Craigslist / Re: Craigslist is ALIVE! Finally picking back up!
« on: November 22, 2012, 03:33:27 AM »
Has been good for us recently. We are a little restricted due to our location. Nobody going to come out for an item less than $50. So limit our post to that.
Selling old inventory.
Sold the copper pots (personal inventory)that I had in whats it worth. Came down on the price a little bit and had 3 interested buyers and sold for asking price $200.
And sold the tiger wood side bar, came down on that price also. But got paid $50 to deliver.

The above list put on CL three times over the last 5 months no bites. sold within the first week of new listing. so who knows, could have been the lower pricing or just the space aligns came down and said buy.  ;D

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Keep it or sell it?
« on: November 22, 2012, 03:18:00 AM »
We pretty much sell everything if it is not a trade up, or what are we going to get rid of to keep that. Like BigBizz we will keep a little while then sell.

My Aunt is a hoarder. Every time I go to her house and have to move the junk around and reorganize it. I come home and make a dump run from our stuff.  ;D

So with her hoarding keeps me in check of how much do I really want or need. Husband has done some home improvements for her recently and he has come home and looked at his tool collection and is willing to sell some of it. Guess looking at her mess makes it easy to just get rid of our clutter.

Don' think they were that.

Just was curious of why they they called. Did nobody show up or just one lucky buyer?

Craigslist / Re: Help with possible scam reply
« on: October 28, 2012, 06:34:51 AM »
Recently found on CL rants and raves (for amusement) that when you get a response hit the sent from and look and see if there are two addresses. One sent from this e-mail, reply to a different e mail. Guaranteed scam, SPAM...

With Movieman call, No e mail.

We have another Selling site which you have to give your e mail. but is really good about response's they only get your true email address if you allow it. So not to much junk from that. also no sales from the e-mailers either. So the callers are better buyers.

Craigslist / Re: Barter stories
« on: October 28, 2012, 06:25:41 AM »
Think I would have to take the calf too.

We don't really barter either. The usual stuff we get offered is because you can't sell it.

Did trade some rabbits for a goat. Cost of rabbits about $30 if I sold them, average cost of a goat is $50 and up. The trade with a neighbor so not really a true barter... LOL  And have to wait on the goat.

On the app thing. Have to agree with Movieman. I have gotten to where I can tell if the ad was posted from an app or from a computer. From the app not a good ad.

Agree on money being tight for a lot of people. Why we have kinda stopped. When there are over 50 yard sales every weekend in your area, something is up. And when you go they want retail.  ::)

CL is starting to pick back up for us.. Totally different dynamics down here. Summer months stink.

Summer hot, rainy, and vacationers. Winter months nice weather,(minus the hurricanes LOL) snowbirds here for the winter so sales pick back up.

Did notice the flea market close to us is picking back up.

Recent sale lady asked on the phone if that was a firm price. Yes.  so she said ok I will bring the correct amount + the delivery fee which she set at $50. I would have set it at $30... But hey took the money. ;D

Last two sales have been paid in all $20's. Don't like taking $100's a lot of counterfeiting going on down here. Have the pen, but they are using $5's to make $20's ect.

Craigslist / Re: CL Sellers are nuts too.....
« on: October 28, 2012, 05:44:51 AM »
Our best seller story is....

Moving sale. had several items. Prices were a little high so just kept an eye on the ad. Finally somethings came off the ad and the prices dropped. Call the seller get directions go and look at what was left. It was a kid living on a miniature horse farm as a helper. He said he was joining the military. So we look at what was left made him an offer. $25 bucks less than the latest CL ad.Nothing was ready to sell still full of stuff. Said he had to talk to his Dad (I think was a total lie). He could not even remember what he was asking for the stuff. a week later he calls and ask if we still wanted it. We had called several times before that. Anyway got the stuff.

A few months later was selling something to a real nice lady she just moved down here. She bought a desk from us so we delivered... to the CL sellers house...  :o She took his job. Her and her husband had offered him $500 bucks for the stuff left in the house. he said fine then when they got here there was nothing there. She did not pay him so glad for her. We all agreed he was flaky.

I am hopping the trend is dieing down.

We have just been in a holding pattern. Sales in the summer for us stink. (Fl.)
Starting to pick back up just sold a piece (have sat on for months) Antique side bar. Lowered the price to $250 and then got paid $50 to deliver. We had $20 bucks in it. (picking find).
So time to start listing things again for us.

"My papa always told me, Some people have more money than sense." We see that a lot down here.  ;D

Ok we have been out for awhile. Work and some family obligations. (old people LOL )

We have not been to an auction in months. Have even stopped looking them up for now.

So today on our way to town we get a phone call on my husbands cell phone.

Hello this is Barbra from storage facility-X. We are having an auction today at 10:00 AM today. (it was 10:00 when she called). Would we be attending? How many units do you have? 5

A little history this facility does not hold a lot of auctions. We have only attended one there (over 6 months ago). And at that time mainly regulars showed up. Not a huge crowed. We were unable to get there today. : (.

So are things getting back to normal when they are calling for bidders?

Welcome to the Forum Dave.

Sorry your 1st Locker was a bust...

We have not gotten to much personal stuff, mostly left overs from moving.  We picked one up that looked like a whole house hold / Wrong only half of one. Very little personal stuff and the facility did not want it.  ::)

Good luck on your next one.

We are waiting for the water to subside... Here in Fl.  ::)

Picker's Paradise / Re: Buying a house full?
« on: August 22, 2012, 10:23:18 AM »
Didn't read Movieman's links so sorry if I repeat anything.

If you are not bidding on it as Movieman was then I would go take a look...

I use to get paid to clean out homes like that and keep what ever I wanted.

So if the kids are looking for just a cash sale go take a look and make an offer.  Make sure to factor in your labor... A lot different than a storage unit.  You have to pack it up first then move it. And most likely do some cleaning...

I would offer very little. They would have to pay someone to come clean it out. I would try and get paid for the clean up. Just my .02.  ;)

Keep us posted. Good luck.

I've been outa action for a bit too.....and might not be around much in the next few weeks.

And I thought I had a lot to do... Glad you are on your way back to work. Until they say wait we have to do more... LOL

A lot of travel too. Have safe trips and let us know how the burgers are..  ;D

Looks like we are still on the burner... Rain everyday for past two weeks (kinda normal but @ over 5" a time)
and another Hurricane heading our way. Going to buy supplies today.. If we loss power we will be on the bottom of the list to get turned back on.  ::)

May have to move the animals to higher ground.
