I would think that all contracts were settled before any taping was done in season 3.  There will only be 18 shows in season  3 so the season is almost half over already.  How is his auction house doing these days ?  The last show he was on he was driving by a much bigger warehouse that he wanted but it was already rented out.

This guy was an 'events stager'. He'd set up for conventions.
Primarily for Sears (I think it was) so he would store displays till next use.
99% of the stuff (lawn mowers, air compressors ...) were either extremely good plastic replicas or the real thing with no guts. And of course a ton of boxes for the back drop.
He lost the account and everything was in s storage unit. He didn't want to empty and dispose so he defaulted on purpose.
So here comes the auction, doors open and looky here!!!!
LOOKS like a 20x30 filled with brand new lawn mowers, compressors, tools, tires.....and unopened box's stacked floor to ceiling, wall to wall!!!

Bidding went thru the roof!
He didn't know this but what ever is bid pays the storage bill....anything over the bill and legal fee's? Yep...he got sent a check for several thousand dollars and the bidder got stuck with empty boxes and plastic replicas.

By how he talked I'd say this was in the late 70's so several grand was a lot.
He said he did it a few more times and made a killing.
He was a conning, untrustworthy sort that'd sell ya out for a dollar and always a scam brewing so maybe this story is true. Maybe it's just something he thought up but never tried and turned it into a story....?



Sounds like a tale to me.

So how much stuff did he have that he could keep selling it ?   

Do you really think that lockers were going for several grand in the 70's.  Like you said it was a lot of money then.

Good luck with that as they were not paying to live there. It's a storage locker.

It does not matter if it is 1 million  460 million your odds are still 230 million to 1.

If you could buy stock in a storage company it might not be a bad idea. i mean look at what they charge a month on rent. A 10 x 20  can go for $100 to $150 month.  Now as far as people over bidding this is what happens in Pa.  Once a unit is 3 months behind it can be sold.  So now the storage company is out $ 3 - 400.  Say unit sells for $1000.  They have to pay for advertising. It is around $100 each time x2 = $200.  If they go with a auctioneer it is more money. Maybe as much as 25%.  So the $1000 - $250 for the auctioneer leaves $750 - $450 in past rent leaves $300 - $200 in advertising = $100.  Now for the kicker.  Anything over al cost go to the owner of the locker.  

 Now if this locker only sold for $500 by the time you pay the auctioneer, advertising and look at the lost rent for 3 months you just lost money.  Now look at it this way.  300 unit x a average of $100 come out to $30,000 a month. That is $360,000 a year.  It would be sweet to have some land and build your own place.

You might want to get this checked out.  I don't see it saying swiss made on it anywhere.  It might be real it might not.

If they don't want such big crowds they they should not use sites such as auction zip  and such.  A lot of folks don't know to look in the paper to find auctions.

Have you tried selling on craigslist ?  Baseball cards are a real hard sell.  It got to the point where they started to make to many of them and they killed the market.  You will have to find flea markets and set up stands and sell it yourself.  Selling is the tricky part of this business.  What is your e-bay name ?  Good luck with the auction and let us know how you made out.  If you triple you money you did really good.

Did anyone else watch this last night.  This was more set-up looking than any of their shows.  You knew they would reach their goal.  All the stuff they pulled out of there.  When was the last time you seen them bid $5k on a unit.
