The Treasure Chest / 1873 j. howard collier lithograph
« on: March 15, 2012, 07:04:55 AM »
I have a chromo lithograph from 1873 by artist j. Howard collier. It is a picture of two small children hugging each other by a table with a fruit basket on it. It is in pristine condition and I would definently consider it mint. It is also framed in a dark oak frame with a very intricate design.

On the lithe it also says chromo lith by chas h. Crosby & co. Boston mass

Then on the bottom edge it says entered according to act of congress in the year 1873 by chas h. Crosby & co in the clerks office of the librarian at Washington d.c.

I found this in a unit and am unsure of value but it does have a price of 148 on the back.

If anybody has some info on this would be great!!

Will also post pictures. Just insure how ti do it. They are on my phone. If someone could help on that id appreciate it

Stories about Storage Auctions / caravan (kinda) today
« on: March 14, 2012, 03:38:59 PM »
hey everyone,

went to a five facility caravan today.... sorta. started as 5 facilities with 17 units, turned out to be 2 facilities with 2 units. got to the first facility 6 units for auction, ended up cancelled. next facility has 2, about 15 minutes before the start both people pay up over the phone.... cancelled. third facility 2 units, so i call the facility because its a far drive, and it has been cancelled. next facility scheduled to have one, and WOAHHHH they have it lol. its a 10x20 with one suitcase, 1 shoe, 3 patio chairs, and a particle wood shoe rack, sold for 50$!?!?! i was astounded. next place and the last one, scheduled to have 5, we get there and on the door has a sign that says down to one unit. so we walk to it, find out its a  double door unit and a 12x30. opened it and it was packed full with brand new vintage coke machines completely resotred and beautiful!! had to be 15-20 differnet kinds and on the other side was a defineite mechanics unit. tools galore, impact wrnech, a rear end from some kind of car, hoods, struts shocks, intakes, pistons rods, complete tranny, a 250 gallon commericla air compressor, 3 craftsman stand up tool boxes, a tire mounting machine, a snap on engine diagnostic machine. just looked like a maechanics shop packed into the unit. not to mention the cleanliness and tidyness this man had. one of the best ive seen in awhile. wish i wouldve had over 1500 on me today. oh well.

here in central florida crowds were down all day, except for the last facility about 50-60 attendees maybe half are serious bidders.

fun day, just never seen so many places get conmpletely cancelled and paid up at the last minute. on to the next one. :)

sorry for the long post, just giving a story.

I can only imagine in your area. Sure it gets nuts.  It is just nuts to drive down there. LOL  ;)

Wasn't trying to discourage you just give you some info.

Heard of some north of you not to bad, haven't ventured to them.

Have fun and keep us posted on the crowds and prices.

Only problem with me going more north or anywhere else for that matter is on Wednesday (my day off) there are always caravans in pinellas county. So besides the crowds there is no huge reason for me to travel because I always wait for quality prices regardless lol

The problem is not using Cl for finding auctions it is that noobies or somebody just going for fun, find them hence making the crowds larger.
Which usually means higher prices. And a longer day.

And I just put in auction. for the search  ;)

All I was saying.

Yea wasn't doubting that. That makes perfect sense. But its ok im still gunna go can't be worse than last Wednesday over 150 people and 67 bidders with through the roof prices lol

Well, when in CL for your city (area) just type in "Storage Auctions" and see what pops up. Works for me in California.

Tried it. Lol.had about 7 postings tht had nothing to do with storage auctions and only one that did and I already knew about it and planned on going tomorrow anyways lol. Whatever. Haha I don't plan on using it to find them. Ill use credible services

Think Floydysims fell off.  ::)

Legacy is good at least in our extended area don't do locally for us.

Hammer down pretty good too. Does most of ours locally Kate is good. Only problem an auction site list auctions on CL and when you go to there site they list auction and a link to hammer downs, so crowds big. Actually think the link is gone but list there action company.

With the extra crowds things start getting behind on the caravan. Last time we saw Kate she was not thrilled with the crowds she knew it was going to be a long day.

She is good at handling the crazy noobies too.

Why we have backed off some plus too much inventory right now.

Good luck.

Hammer down lists on craigslist? Haven't seen that. How do u search to even come across auctions on there. Haven't seen any tbh. Not that im looking really. Lol

Stories about Storage Auctions / renting storage units
« on: March 10, 2012, 09:24:47 AM »
Hey guys,
Just a quick question. Its probably a dumb question but I couldn't fin it in the search tool. Im going to a caravan on Wednesday and I don't have a truck. But if I buy a large unit with alot of inventory is it acceptable to believe that the facility will let me rent the unit to keep the stuff there? Or is that a no-no?

Any help in this matter would be appreciated thanks

thanks for all the replies guys :)

i have some updates actually!! I have sold the bed frame today for 25$, figured that was a right price to move it quick, and I have sold the gateway laptop for 1996, tht was broke, for 25$.

so that is 50$ i made since i bought them yeserday, only about 45 more and im in the green ;) and I feel like that should be no problem, since i still have all the furniture that I believe is worth about 120 and a burberry purse with a pending sale at 20$.

think after all is said and done i stand about making 185 not bad profit from $89 my first time out :)

IM HOOKED!!!

Stories about Storage Auctions / first units bought!!
« on: March 08, 2012, 07:45:03 AM »
hey guys i went to my first auctions yesterday, 4 in fact. And I won my first 2 lkrs, at my first time ever attending :D i was very excited to start and very happy to be engaged in the bidding. there were ALOT of people there were 67 bidders on the sign in sheet that i counted, and more than that were there.

Anyways after 4 facilities and about 15 units total I bought two, one being just 15$ and the other being 60$, and after taxes and 10% buyers premium i payed a little under 89$ total.

in the first unit there was a eddie bauer baby bassonet in very good condition, a very deep dark wood baby changing table with storage underneath in great conditon, a gateway laptop, a burberry purse (i think its real but unsure), and a few small odds and ends but nothing else worth much. paid 60$ for this hope to double my money..... is that too far out of the question?

my 2nd unit i bought was a very small 5x5 with a huge couch but unfortunately only had 3 out of 4 cushions and was not stained and was beautiful :((( i really wouldve liked to keep it for myself but oh well, a light wood entertainment center in great condition (can hold appromiately a 35 inch tv) with swinging doors and drawers underneath, and a complete steel bedframe. I also found a pencil drawing but not sure if its worth anything. i spent 15, i hope to triple my money of this one between the bed frame and entertainment center.... is that out of the question? am i expecting too much?

thanks for any help guys.

Me and my girlfriend had a blast yesterday!! it was really alot of fun just being involved even if i wouldnt have bought anything. I can see now why this is so intriguing to some people... it is a great time. Ill definently be back out next wednesday!!! I bought 2 lkrs and still came home with 265$ thats always a plus too :)
