Craigslist / Re: Are CL buyers really nuts or what?
« on: January 29, 2012, 08:05:56 PM »
Got another CL nutjob today. Met, he just started talking to me, shooting the breeze. Push convo towards item, money....hint, hint. Brushes me off. Finally I'm done with the nice thing so just just said I had to be somewhere, here's the item.....
I get: "well I don't actually want it. I'm really looking for a few good people to....."

Oh, I lost it. Profanity, yelling,....then I think I scared the living crap outa him cause I suddenly just started laughing my *ss off!   I just couldn't believe someone tries to hit up CL sellers for their pyramid scams!  It just stuck me as hilarious!  I drove off laughing and the guy just standing there with a blank look.

I'm literally lol-ing as a write this.

What the heck does it matter what you are doing with them!?

More important, what did she think you WERE gonna do with 10 cow skulls?!!

Just tell her you lied. In actuality your just using them for simple satanic rituals. That's all. Move along. No money being made here.....

Think I would hold some fabric aside to  reupholster chairs...

The locker sounds like a good flea market find. Get all those people with dreams of doing artsy stuff and never do. Will find it all in another locker a few years from now. lol

New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Savings Bonds
« on: January 25, 2012, 11:54:57 PM »
You can look them up online and see if they are even valid. If so, you can return to purchaser and hope for a monetary thank you. Can't even try to sell them back. Aside from legalities the fact is those bonds you hold mean very little. Those are (in very simple, not totally correct terms)  more of a reciept of a contract. The contract being the part of value which is held by the government. So the owners can say thank you for the reminder and file for new "reciepts".

[and for all those fellow economist in the room. I know my terms and explanation is "off" but best way I can explain in simple terms]

Bonds are nontransferable  securities. Sorry. Only the person who purchased it can cash it or thru court order in the event of death. But only to hiers.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: What was he thinking?
« on: January 25, 2012, 10:17:00 AM »
The only thing I can think of is he's a guy that fixes tools or in construction and he saw something I missed. For all I know, that "scrap wood junk" coulda been rare  bamboo hard wood, hand grown by monks in the 15th century......

He saw money, I saw a lot of work and dump fee's.

Like I said elsewhere. We all view lockers different. Y'all are hoping for gold&guns and I'd sh*t myself for a nice lazy boy! If it was sitting next to a matching sofa they might have to call the paramedics for the heart attack I would have....    lol

Yeah, if that's true I should be done! LOL

I don't even care. It was just stuff that's a pain to move.
Had a few cases of Jupiter Jacks. Those "as seen on tv" things you plug in cell phones so u hear it over the car radio...
No one wants those. They don't work so well.  Sell 5 here,10 there for $1ea.

I was going to tell you flea market sellers you can have them for the price of shipping.  So the thieves saved me some work.   :D

Stories about Storage Auctions / What was he thinking?
« on: January 24, 2012, 11:28:32 PM »
Wasn't planning on attending today but was a few blocks away, had a couple hours and $200 in my pocket. Figured it was an auction or go wonder the book store.....might get lucky.
Anyway....

10x20. Looked like a painter or constuction guy used as warehouse.
Saw 7-8 ladders, well used and not all that safe looking. Few air compressors, again well used, one looked taken apart and all sell new for about $200.  A bin like thing that you could see various power tools but clear that some had been taken apart (assumed this bin was for broken tools).  The rest was piles of paint  tubs, drop cloth, odd-an-ends of boards, roofing.....

So....starts at $100. Guy shouts "HERE!!!"  while everyone else is checking their email or what ever. Another guy walks up, stares, sighs and takes the $150.
The first guy screams "FIVE HUNDRED!!!!"

Now everyone, including myself, come forward. Like, what the he'll did we miss?!

I saw nothing! Everyone was looking at each other.

NO idea what this guy was thinking. There had to be 5-6 truck loads of trash. Lots of heavy, dirty, lifting and cleaning.  It was open, viewable, nothing really hidden and searching the net you could get all the stuff used in GOOD condition for under $1000 and most looked broken....

Not to mention that no one wanted it! Why did he jump from $150 to $500?!

I'm not sitting here thinking he is a moron. I'm trying to go over it and figure out what I missed! LOL

If you ever need a storage unit you are not going to think of our stores negatively!

Lance

Your right on point there! I just needed to get a locker and priced shopped a pretty big area since it's not one I'll be needing to get in/out of frequently. Distance (relatively) wasn't a top concern. Found two with size and services I needed at about the same price.

First one, cheaper, 1st for $1, closer to home but a place that when I went to to ask about auctions I got "oh. You another one of the storage wars guys? Think your gonna get rich?"

Second, no deals, 10miles further. But had been to auction (actually it was cancelled) but the employee was SO nice. Even called another storage facility that she thought had one going in an hour and put me on email list for theirs.

Guess where I rent......

A week later and I finally have home phone and Internet!

So I go to take pictures of items to throw online and.....they're gone.
Someone actually got in my shed and stole items Ive been having a hard time getting rid of. Maybe, on a good day, a REALLY good day, MAYBE $200-ish of stuff. Sold over time. I was thinking of getting about $75.
If they would have asked I would have giving it to them!  Didn't they wonder why it was unlocked and covered in 3" of dust?!

I wish them luck and hope they make a buck......I sure couldn't. :)

Wow people. Kinda sorry I started this thread.
Was just asking if anyone signed with ST and then got a sh*t load of emails.
I don't really care. Reason I use a dump mail acct in the first place.

And it all turns into this....? :)

Really, does any of it matter at this point? It is what it is.

If you can't change your circumstances, change your attitude.

So.....lance?  What's up with your test emails?

Can't comment to much cause just getting back after....well, a long time. But do remembering it to be friendlier.
Can say that the auto side has got cut throat. Go from 50-60 people and 1000 cars to 300 people and 100 cars? Yeah.

Guessing it's the same at storage. To many people chasing the same nickel. Higher prices for lower returns.  Gets on people.

I know what you mean about helping people. Had a guy wanting me to hook him up with my guy licensed for dealer only auctions. Told him I didn't have one anymore. I mean, really? Give you my contact so YOU can be my competition?  I havent flip'd a car in two years cause the market is so saturated!

Not true, we dont make money. LOL

If you are really getting junk emails from our site we would really want to know. We set up test accounts all the time and see none of this..

ST

I find it a pretty hard core coincidence that I go from 3-4 a month to over 100 with in 24hrs after signing up. But I've delt with more bizarre situations, so its possible.

I havent used that email for anything else so 2+2=??

I've deleted the emails and haven't checked it since. But message me a contact email and if it has continued I'll let you know the source.

Like I said before, don't want to bash your site, just seemed a little odd.
