General Storage Auction Talk / Re: What do you do?
« on: November 12, 2013, 08:29:35 AM »
I make sure any minor damage or issues are visable in the photos and let them make their own determination. They do get to inspect stuff before buying so I figure it's on them. Ebay is another matter. I mention every issue no matter how tiny.

Garage Sales / Re: What's the most you've ever made at a garage sale?
« on: November 09, 2013, 10:10:59 PM »
Had a garage sale today. We are overloaded with so much stuff due to the estate we bought in September and with Ebay and Craigslist being so slow we decided to squeeze in a garage sale before winter weather hits. Best garage sale we've had. $3700.00! Woo Hoo!! In addition to the money, we got rid of some really large stuff that has been taking up so much room. A bunch of large trunks, a dresser, assorted side tables, three complete dining room sets, another set of 4 dining chairs and tons of smalls. Actually kind of tempted to get a bunch more sorting done and have another one early December. So much work but very tempting.

eBay / Re: Insurance Claims on Ebay
« on: November 09, 2013, 08:00:51 AM »
The only insurance claim I have filed for something shipped via USPS was a lost package and the insurance was the Ebay ShipCover insurance and all they did was verify it didn't arrive at it's destination within 30 days and gave me my money back, not including the shipping cost. Not the same, I know, but during that issue I did a lot of reading about USPS insurance claims and it doesn't sound too good. Pretty sure you (the shipper) would file the claim and I'm sure since it's a breakage issue they will want to see the item and original packaging. USPS pretty much plays basketball with our packages so they need to be packed well enough to withstand a lot of abuse. Also I have read it takes months to get paid on a claim.  Again, I haven't submitted a breakage claim so I'm just guessing but my guess is they will deny your claim, probably say it wasn't packed well enough. For $41.00 I would just refund the customer and call it a cost of doing business and move on. Just not worth the aggravation.

Definitely more text messages, some calls and say right in my ads not to bother to email.

The Treasure Chest / Re: You just never know...

Those are the best finds. Had a similar experience recently. Small odd mixed media type painting, bought it in a box lot at an estate auction for $5 about 6 months ago. Signed and dated 1960. I've picked it up a couple times never found the artist name anywhere. Something about it tells me not to let it go, also it's small enough that it's not taking up space. Had a 'picker' friend over recently and he saw it and said "there's something interesting about this. You should research it". So, I look at it again, google it a bit and find something by the same artist on Ruby Lane for $8500.  Dug a little deeper and found some other works at auctions over the last few years, some substantially more although much larger paintings. Took it to a professional and he estimates that we could probably get anywhere from $3000 to $8000 for it.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Keeping Items That Appreciate

I have a signed Willie McCovey  jersey that isn't worth much so I'm waiting for it to (hopefully) appreciate. I also have some gold coins.

Weird & Wacky Finds / Re: Locker owner wants leg back
« on: November 03, 2013, 04:56:17 PM »
It could be that she collects oddities and it's not actually "her" prosthetic leg but an antique prosthetic leg. In that case I'd keep it. Otherwise if she is in fact an amputee and it's just her back up leg or something I would certainly give it back and think it would be bad karma to charge her for it.

eBay / Re: Is EBAY super slow lately or is it just me?
« on: November 01, 2013, 10:28:52 AM »
Sold a few things in the last couple days but still very slow. Still reading up on the EBAY search engine and it seems like most of the stuff I'm finding to improve sales just really doesn't pertain to the kind of stuff I am selling. You know, unique collectible stuff as opposed to large quantities of new common stuff. I'm dealing with hundreds of boxes of unique vintage items which seem to all have value (based on what I am seeing in closed listings on EBAY) but it is just so frustrating to spend hours and hours sorting, photographing and listing stuff to have 2 or 3 things sell or get a bid each day. Then you get the nonpayers! I had one lady buy a necklace for $131.00 and took over 3 weeks to pay. I feel like I am sitting on a potential gold mine of stuff but just can't sell it. I have managed to make back my initial investment but still have two storage units full of stuff costing me more money each month, one all furniture (even harder to sell) so thats frustrating also.  Furthermore, I can't go to storage auctions anymore because I already have too much stuff and I LIKE going to storage auctions! Actually went to one recently just for fun with no intention of bidding.

Sorry, needed to vent a little......

Ugh is it really already November? Now the long wait for spring. Not a fan of the cold wet months!

Wow, hard to say. Not the kind of stuff that would interest me but would think it would go for at least $300-$400. Great for someone with a physical store but that's not me.

there has been a ton said about ebays new search engine , someone named crazeenydriver on you tube did a great video in the last week or 2 on his ebay search findings i reccomend watching it

craigslist for me has always been product and season driven
good quality stuff in season will go fairly quickly if priced well, if you price top dollar its going to sit there

I just watched this youtube video and a few others. This was very halpful, I think. Too soon to tell but I have already learned a lot that I never considered. I am apparently doing everything wrong in how I list items so will be making some changes. Thanks for the tip.

eBay / Is EBAY super slow lately or is it just me?

I have listed quite a few new things lately and it seems like no one is buying. Has anyone else noticed a slow down? Craigslist also.

In the estate I bought last month there was a drawer of a desk full of unused stamps. Not rolls but sheets or those little packs of 20 stamps. Looks like she would buy them whenever a new image was released or for specific holidays but then like the rest of her stuff, never used them. I haven't counted them all but looks like $300-$400 value. A lot are forever stamps but quite a few are varying smaller denominations. I currently have them in a bag on a shelf waiting for me to get around to doing something with them. Probably won't happen anytime soon though.

PayPal / Re: I HATE PAYPAL!!! Reserves are killing my business!!!
« on: October 27, 2013, 09:49:58 AM »
If you had just sold $220,000 in a month (with a net according to RFR of about 10%) would YOU let other people here know what the product line was ? I know I wouldn't and that's why I never asked him. He won't tell anyone here about it that's for sure.  ;D

Yeah, I guess I wouldn't tell either.  Mostly I can't fathom the work involved if not drop shipping. I would imagine it's something pre-boxed that just requires slapping on a label but even so....
