New to Storage Auctions? / Re: Reupholster?
« on: February 18, 2014, 11:43:57 AM »
My attitude is if something is an easy fix I'll fix it, however if it requires lots of time or lots of money spent on materials I won't, everyone wants to lowball you on everything so why put more money into it just to get lowballed. Unless it's a high end piece of quality furniture dont waste your tiem take what someone will give you for as is condition. Thats my take.

I didn't have it before the changes and I only really make money from myself on it. I really haven't found a good substitute for adsense.

hey not sure if by making money from yourself you mean you promote your own products for sale or you click your own links and then make purchases off ebay but if your doing that it will only be a sale or two before they catch on and shut you down. there is nothing in their tos however about promoting your own products thats kind of a nice idea because there's more inccentive into putting time and effort into promoting your own stuff because not only do you make money fromt eh sale as you are the seller but you also get your affiliate cut

eBay / Re: Why is eBay hemorrhaging sellers? Their lack of common sense!
« on: February 17, 2014, 03:28:24 PM »
Forgot to mention that I did ask for pictures, which I received. This was before offering to start the claim. Wasn't really relevant IMO.

I did tell him that I would start the claim, he insisted on it. I told him that it's typical for the shipper to file the claim. He still insists. Customer is a grown man in Hawaii, can't really do anything to stop him except perhaps preempt him claim with a claim of my own.

Also, sent the proof in the interest of resolving the claim asap.

AN UPDATE...

I talked with eBay just a bit ago regarding this issue, and I was told by someone with sense that I can fax or email proof of payment by USPS to the buyer. After they receive it, they'll refund my money back to me.

Not the best solution, but at least it's something!

Yeah anything with USPS is a nightmare whether its getting refunded for express packages which dont arrive on time to insurance. I never really buy insurance for this reason in the first place I basically dont have thepatience to follow up with getting paid out so why pay for it in the first place. I do have a third party company who will insure fedex packages i just have to send them the tracking number before dropping it off. these are a super easy payout no hoops to jump through. im surprised usps dealt with him, normally on any issues they will only deal with the shipper. sorry to hear you gotta deal with this headache. maybe its just a fluke but honestly all my problem buyers are from hawaii. ive had 3 chargebacks from hawaii customers in which paypal didn't even bother getting my side of the story or a tracking number automatically issued refunds hours after i shipped the product so for example order comes in at 8am. i ship at like 10am and by about noone i get an email buyer filed a chargeback and paypal didnt fight it just immediately gave money back to customer

I use it on my sports forum - You can target ads from certain categories and keywords, so it fits the theme of your websites..

The 1 day cookie is stupid, but if you place a bid in that day and win it 7 days later you still get credit for it.  Also I think your 1 day cookie is overridden, if you click the EPN from a different site like Google.

If you know some heavy ebay shoppers that are friends they can generate $$ for you.

I was just curious if you were a member for a while before the changes and if you still use it? Have you noticed a huge downturn in your earnings?

The one day cookie is crazy, I know many times people get confused with ebay and paypal and think they need to move money into paypal before buying vs just paying via paypal and letting them automatically do an instant bank withdrawl. I know many times buyers think they need to wait for payments to clear into their paypal account before buying. I would venture to bet a good portion of sales get pushed back a day or two for this reason. Also how many people buy instantly many will add to watchlist and buy later or will buy the last day of an auction vs buying on day 2 and waiting 5 more days.

In my experience the more caveats and less transparent the payouts are means the affiliate company is trying to find any reason not to pay affilates. If it weren't for the one day cookie and lack of transparency in what we earn I would love the program as like you said you can do text links, you can link to specific products, you can link to search pages of products in your niche but that one day cookie just killls any chance of earnings imho. I was putting it up on everything and after seeing lots of impressions, a fair number of clicks, and no earnings I took it down off all my stuff

I some of you out there have your own blogs or are affiliate marketers. I was curious if any of you currently are or have been a member of the EPN or ebay partner network? I used to hear about how great it was and also how hard it was to get in. I recently got apprved after being denied a number of times however apparently they have really stripped down the program. The payout schedule and amounts are anything but transparent and apparently they have moved to a 1 day cookie so unless someoen buys instantly you don't get paid. Most affiliate programs have either a 15 or 20 day cookie just to illustrate how bad this is.

I was super excited about getting admitted but in less than a week have given up and stripped ebay off all my blogs and sites.

Just curious if anyone was a member before they changed terms as well as recently and what your thoughts are?

I'm somewhat confused by who's going to get the insurance check you or the buyer? If you get the check buyer got his money you got your money all is good right? Are you saying he got his money back from ebay and will also get the insurance check?

eBay / Re: eBay Instructions for Using Watermarks in Pictures
« on: February 13, 2014, 10:27:11 AM »
That's the way to go away. If you use the eBay tool to add a watermark, then they might be able to separate the watermark when they add your photo to their library/catalog. Plus by doing it yourself, you can properly position the text so it doesn't cover anything important in the photo.

you can do it that way and probably fly under the radar and not get caught but if someone reports your listing you get a strike and wont appear in searches for like 2 months so if you wanna take that risk know thats a possibility. really if someone wants to use your pics they will.

one other thing. i get where you guys are comming from, i get frustrated when people are lazy and use my time and effort and steal my pics. that said if you sell one off items its not like you have a recognizeable brand anyways so who really cares ifsomeone uses it. the reason i dont like it is i sell the same items over and over and over for years so when my customers recognize my pics as me. i know sometimes in we buy alot of something and are selling a consistant product like movieman with his filters or whatever that was he picked up in bulk but if your selling a toaster andd someoen steals your pics who really cares once that toaster sells the pics are worthless to you anyway though i do get the principal. i wouldn't waste time policing people using pics for one off things though. another thing do you guys find that the report the listing thing works, i never see any action unless i actually call and make the phone rep file a report. ive even had reps tell me the report thing does work if enough people report but they have so many listings to police dont expect results

eBay / Re: eBay Wants to Use Pictures We Take in THEIR catalog

If it bothers you to have your pictures used, then watermark them with your username. That way they'll either be rejected or you'll get free advertising at other people's stores.

Many people don't know this but watermarking your pics is against ebay terms of service. I know many people do it and it's smart to do it so others dont use your pics but its against the ebay TOS. I was just talking to an ebay rep about this. Apparently there's a feature within your listings where you can have it watermarked with your store name, I never knew about this but doing it yourself in paint or something could get you penalized on ebay

Thanks for posting this. Really not that crazy considering basically any site instagram, pinterest, facebook basically claims rights to your pics you post on their site. That said this is kinda wierd since currently ebay lets you report people for using your pics and its a pretty serious violation of their policy but now they are going to actively help people use my pics. My pics are my brand, I seriously go after people who use them because I have actually had people come complianing to me only for both of us realize they didn't buy from me they bought from someone else using my pics and thought it was me. This hurts my brand and also steals my sales. I'm going to opt out right now. Thanks.

eBay / Re: Waiting them out on eBay
« on: February 11, 2014, 12:37:20 PM »
See, I don't get that. I don't think it costs me much to list an item for 30 days (less than a $1.00 anyway, if that).

Now if there are significant shipping discounts, that might be another story. What type of discount are we talking about?

Almost without exception I charge a $3.00 packing/handling charge and I let them know about that upfront (if they're even half way smart and read what's happening) so no surprises.

Still, I am not running at 5.0 on the shipping/handling....only 4.8. Guess I can live with that considering that my $3 charge goes toward offsetting eBay/PayPal fees.

I do "free shipping" on some lightweight items. Beyond me how any buyer can't figure out that the price has been inflated to COVER that free shipping, but I guess the word FREE does wonders...not in every case as witness the FREE service that some companies offer that don't seem to get them a lot of business.

Anyway, everyone should use what works for them.

your better of rolling product cost into shipping. its an automatic 5 sstar for dsr and also you get better best match ranking offering free shipping. im sure buyers know shipping costs are rolled in but dont think about it. they are paying the same price whether you roll it in or add it on top so you may as well help yourself out and get the 5 star dsr and better ranking

eBay / Re: Is eBay exempt from state auction laws?
« on: February 10, 2014, 11:07:35 AM »
if it is a law its a law which has never been enforced and most likely never will be enforced. especially with bigger ticket items most people have it for sale on ebay and craigslist locally. if you sell locally first and befofre you can pull the auction it sells locally you dont have the product anymore.

i was just on the phone with ebay regarding this same issue. having stale items sitting for months isn't good. first off if something doesn't sell for a few weeks ebay puts it at bottom of best match search as guy told me they are in the business of selling stuff not sitting on stuff. secondly it somewhat harms your overall account and standing in best match as well as it hurts your STL or ssell through rate. they recommended dropping prices or pulling items that dont sell afte rlike 2 months.

eBay / Re: Misleading Listing on eBay
« on: February 07, 2014, 10:25:12 AM »
I recently bought an ac adapter for a laptop on eBay.

After researching by price I found one model made in China that was selling for $10 to $15 and was being marketed by a number of sellers.

I picked the seller that was closest to me (located in a town only 50 miles from me) thinking I would get it quickly that way.

Now I see (despite their eBay location indiator) that they are shipping it by DHL Global. That tells me it's coming directly from China and instead of two day delivery I am looking at 12 day delivery.

That's annonying from a usefulness standpoint (I have to work-around not having this adapter until the new one comes) but also from an ethical standpoint.

Companies shouldn't falsely advertise WHERE their product is anymore than they would advertise any other incorrect aspect of the product.

on ebay listings towards the upper right of the description there's the report button. you can report the seller and the listing for item location misrepresentation, there's actually a preset code to report that. not to say anything will be done necessarily but if they get enough complaints it will. i agree super annoying under any circumstance but especially if your without laptop charger for that long
