General Storage Auction Talk / Exercise Machines and there metal
« on: September 25, 2011, 11:51:15 PM »
So, I got a unit yesterday that had an exercise machine in it.  Machine looks like half disassembled and is missing a bolt that connect the base from the sliding area.  Machine is drawing almost no interest and I am thinking to scrap the metal and try to sell the electronics on ebay.  My question is, how much money should I expect to get out of this?  I had no camera all weekend, so I am going to have to upload from my iPhone.  Bare with me, LOL.  I just need to get out of this unit, it was a loser unit, everything besides the bar is broken.  I amhoping to turn a small profit, but for this crap I'd be happy to break even.

Hey Terrorbow, not trying to be an asshole either, but I thought you said you had the big stuff sold or that you had dumped some merchandise to get your money back.  Is it really that bad up there?

Congrats! You never forget your first. ;)

I sure want to forget about my second! gaaahhhhh

So acman where is your sweet spot or honey hole at? Or do I just got to go to auctions down by your way to find out?

Grats knoxie. You know up by me the most ive seen is maybe 20 the least is 4 maybe its just the area that the auctions are in that determines the amount of people that will be there.

Sorry terrorbow, thats a bit of info you couldn't pay me to give up! LOL  We will see this month just how Sweet the place will be.  #'s may have been down because of labor day, but I don't think that's the only reason.  I really do think it will be a sweet spot.

Yeah, once you find those little gem places, you keep those to yourself.  I don't think I'd ever post a question on a unit from the first place I bought, again.  Not saying I don't trust people here, I don't trust people to do a simple google search and get tips to my sweet spot.

As you see in my sig, got another unit.  Nothing to write home about.  A couple Dry Fit Golf Shirts and a few pants, but nothing earth shattering.  I did get a bar(needs work) and a bar chair and a Workout station(Probably is only good for parts, but I'll try and upload my iPhone picks to give you an idea.  Unfortunately I at the time didn't think I was overbidding, but everything turned out to be Broken or in need of repair.  On the plus side I know I have made $20 already on a table with no glass.

Bid really one guy up once and that was the only time.  I had two things in my favor, 1. a timberland boox box and a spent gun round.  Otherwise, unit was only clothes(spider infested POS clothes).  If the guy made 3 bucks on his 23 spent, he was lucky.

Ain't that the truth!  After Hester, Jarrod and Brandy are my least favorite people on SW.  Jarrod's mouth writes checks it can't cash and Brandy is about as trailer-trashy as you can get.  She treats Jarrod about the same as that Kate chick treated John on "John and Kate Plus 8".  I would guess there isn't one high school diploma between the two of them.

So, yes, if those two idiots can run a business, my guess is that any of us could certainly do better than them.

How do you define Trailer Trash?  Everyone view TT in different ways, and I for one dont see Brandi as TT.  She dresses well, she has decent work ethic and I imagine she grooms properly.  To me that's not TT.

Also, I don't think anyone can compare to Kate, she was a ***** before her show and her fame made her 10x's *****ier!

wake up call for those who rent storage units? Thinking to themselves I could loose my unit so anything of value I wont leave in my shed. Maybe units will be packed with less and less of things of value. With over a half million viewers per week what % of those viewers are close to loosing the unit at auction. This show in my opinion is going to de value what a person can find compared to be for all the attention. What will people do that quit there jobs to open a store cause they thought this was going to be the easyiest money theve every made. Its funny people think its as easy to sell as it is to buy a unit. With everyone doing it there is more supply then there is of demand for such common things found in a unit. ;D

Meh, humans are creatures of habit. Sure, in the short term lockers may get raided, but in the long term people will return to storing valueables in units.

Few reasons. 1. Hardships that force families to downsize and store items. 2. Many locker owners are lazy or just plain forgetful. Out of sight equals out of mind.  I'd imagine that by January or February that owners will forget about the shows and throw everything in a unit. 3. Cold weather will turn off people from rummaging threw a unit before it is lost and I'd imagine spend little time organizing a unit when renting. 4. Finally, deaths, sudden moves, and job loses are constants and when they happen suddenly people forget about valueables and penny pinching becomes immediate and things like wasting gas to go to a storage unit becomes a waste of resources.

Btw so far strange/worst thing I found so far is 2 needles, but women was going to school to be a nurse.

As I don't smoke crack, I don't know how weird this is but I found an old gas mask that had been fitted with a crack pipe. I guess they didn't want to waste any of the smoke.

Thats actually a more bong type thing. It is supposed to be used for more a hooka type thing, but I know people who have used it for weed only. I see these things all the time a a local flea/trade market.  I'd get one just because I think they are cool but I don't smoke down, well unless I ever find some in a locker.

I think I heard this on Storage Wars but the saying went something like, "Sometimes, walking away without a locker is the best buy of the day."  I think it's very true.

Congrats on not getting caught up in the nonsense.
NONSENSE? Nah Nah Nah Nah, thats outright STUPIDITY!

Whoa...I think you have me confused with someone else who posted here...this is my first post in this thread!

I haven't read TCLane's post, but maybe you were referring to his thoughts?  I sell partial bottles of perfume, but it has to be a high-end brand.  I keep partial boxes of laundry soap and dishwasher soap for myself...saves some bucks!

Sorry movieman, got you confused with tclane. Lol, epic fail on my part.

Moviemean, I agree with what you say, but I also disagree.

Agree that trinkets and **** can sell, but I'd honestly love to know how you can resell half used laundry soap or used toothbrushes! LOL

The area, at least in my area does have it's ****ty areas where you'd be better off buying a lottery ticket then the locker, but those are usually the storage facilities that border Detroit.  I'll still go to them when I can though, they are good for laughs and the occasional cheap pickup.
