General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Joined the 500 club!
« on: July 05, 2012, 09:26:21 AM »
Welcome to the top 10 posters Cobia !

I think you know I always enjoy your cogent analysis of some of the thornier questions here on the threads.

When looking at the top 10 posters list another interesting thing is WHEN some of those top 10 posters made their mark. Several were early on (and have since about dropped away from regular posting) while a couple of others made the mark later in the forum's short history.

Going to take awhile for anyone to bump off the last person on the top 10 poster list..Mr. A...but I guess he is having a good time running his combination storage facility and thrift store in Tennessee now. I believe he said that multi-million dollar facility would be operation in January of 2012, so he's had six months of it now. (  ;) )

Reality Shows about Storage Auctions / Re: Is Hester broke?
« on: July 04, 2012, 10:52:29 PM »
This will never last 20 years.

Well, I wasn't really implying that it would, but it certainly has the qualities of a show that people watch:

1) a regular ensemble of characters with a variety of annoying (and/or attractive) characteristics.
2) a soap opera atmosphere of competitive nature with twists and turns.
3) introductions of new puzzles both in goods and people.
4) etc.

I think it will go another year or so...maybe more, maybe less...but not soon enough!

Earlier I posted that this show is staged, nobody leaves 4 grand in coins in a locker and just let the locker go.

I've always had a problem with the use of words like: "always", "never", "nobody", "everybody" and the way they are "sometimes" used in a sentence.

It is certainly true that I have "always" had a problem with word usage, but it is "seldom" true that "nobody" does a particular behavior. I think there is "sometimes" "somebody" who does a particular behavior.

For instance, I have SEEN instances of "somebody" leaving large sums of money in lkr safes. I've never gotten a really big one, but I know a fellow who did.  The person who left the money might have died with "no one" knowing about the locker (recluses do exist) or the frm lkr owner might have been in jail and wasn't going to let anyone know about that stash. "Any number" of reasons it could happen.

Maybe it doesn't happen "often" but it does happen. Just don't count on it happening for "you"...whoever "you" might be.  ;D

P..Pump.....

Celebrating the 4th are we ?  What's your drink of choice ? Your title asks a question and I guess the content of your two posts above is what you are concerned about being deleted.

In all the time I've been posting here I've only had one post edited (not deleted) and that was because it had a link to a web page I created about a windbag here who was that and more.  Anyway, Drew, the administrator asked me politely not to post the link again, and I didn't.

*****
Meanwhile, P...Pump ..... your affection for Brandy is obvious and since I doubt you will put in an appearance where the couple is actually at hand, I doubt there will be any problems for anyone involved.

THANK YOU!  THIS IS GOING TO SUPPLEMENT MY RETIREMENT WELL.  I"m hitting computer stores, home depot, lowes tomorrow and seeing about getting their empty boxes.   I will make this locker look like a honey hole.  I'll even get a cheap safe to put in it and inside will be a note that says 'JARROD, YOU'RE WIFE WOULD WANT ME SO BAD!'.  I'll leave a quarter in the safe too so its not a total bust.  God this is a great idea.  MONEY TIME!  WOOHOO!!!!!

I know you're kidding of course, but for those who HAVEN'T thought this through, consider this:

It would require collusion with the storage place and/or the auctioneer. Maybe they don't care, but the unsuspecting person who does this might want to also consider that if he/she just did it without the help of the mgr/auctioneer, then your credit rating would take a dump if you defaulted on the locker just to get the overage from the sale.

In any event, not a good idea...and again I know YOU were kidding.

Garage Sales / Re: Rummage sale pricing<question>

Guy at swap got a big popcorn machine out of locker. He started selling popcorn at 25cents a bag.  Then started selling water, soda....

Said not only does the popcorn/drinks get people to come over to his table but he makes $25-$50 profit each day but his sales went up too.

Said he tried selling hotdogs and it was 'okay' but to much work to keep an eye on it and sales. Then the health department said he needed a license so stopped.

If I tried that at my flea market the food vendors would have a fit and would either turn me in to the flea admins or ride me out of the flea on an old taco shell!

The food vendors have to post a $1 million dollar bond....insurance against food poisioning I guess.

*****

I once had some liquid spray candy out front and one of the minions came over and told me I couldn't sell it.

Of course that doesn't stop kids from walking around and coming up to every vendor and asking us if we want to buy a candy bar for a $1.

Thought I would pop this thread back to the top as it has (IMO) 4 interesting stories from July of 2011.

But after awhile, it got to be all normal. None of it seemed like crimes. Was just enterprising. He and the guys make bucks hustling while other guys sat on their asses waiting for handouts. Our husbands weren't brain surgeons, just blue-collar guys. The only way they could make real money was to go out and cut corners.  <enter stage left 'movieman' to voice over from shadow the name of movie qoute>

Character Henry Hill's wife Karen in "Goodfellas".

Later the actress who played Karen (forget her name at the moment) was Tony Soprano's shrink on "The Sopranos".

Edit: Karen and Dr. Melfi....played by Lorraine Bracco.

Hester wins a locker in an upcoming episdode....either July 10 or July 17, 2012.

May have been taped before the dust-up about his salary on SW, but time will tell if he lasts or not.

And like everything else in life....there is death. Of course a show like Law and Order lasted 20 years and so have many soap operas.

Jarrod and Brandy are not believeable because why would a honey like that marry a want to be thug like Jarrod?

Guess you missed the episode where her tramp stamp was revealed.

Stories about Storage Auctions / Auction Scene #7...July, 2012
« on: June 30, 2012, 10:19:23 PM »
Here we go again !

With a few of the regular contributors here commenting in June that the crowds at least were down, there is hope for the month of July.

Prices can still be high (at least on the BETTER units) but maybe the days of "newbies" buying up stock at ridiculous prices are coming to an end.  ;D

2055
That happens every where I'm sure...I know it happens in Central Calfornia....BUT...NOT WITH PUBLIC STORAGE.

It happens here with mom and pop facilities.

As far as who to contact....try the national offices of Public Storage. Hard for me to imagine that the quantity of PS facilities you say are not having sales could go undetected by their bosses.

Here heads fly if any reports are wrong...it's all computerized...they know what units are available at every location in the country and they run them on their "1st month $1" specials...I got a 10x 30 at a PS auction recently and it JUST HAPPENED it was one of the specials for that month...Only $50 with insurance, lock, etc....couldn't pass it up and sold a lot of stuff directly from that locker rather than moving it.

But hey, maybe Florida is a different animal.
