Weird & Wacky Finds / Re: Locker owner wants leg back

Well, it could be argued its personal property and not medical equipment but if she took it to court I don't think she'd have a leg to stand on.....

What's it Worth?? / Re: Best way to sell scrap silver
« on: November 04, 2013, 10:08:12 AM »
I was looking at Midwest Refineries a few days ago. 90% is the best payout I've found so far. My only concern would be shipping $2400 in silver. I wonder what the insurance would run?

Doubt it would be much.  Maybe $40-$50?   If you pack it nice could you fit it all in a large flat rate?
Considering the payout I don think $75-$100 in shipping is going to kill you.  :)

You do know spot price has dropped $2 since this thread began.....your down to $1800-$2000 buy price!  Jump on it!  Sell, sell! Mortimer!

Good little article and refers to place to sell..... midwestrefineries.com and  arnoldjeweler.com for the knives.

http://www.ebay.com/gds/Selling-Sterling-Silver-/10000000021269768/g.html

Midwest Refineries no longer accepts any weighted sterling silver

Some sterling silver items like candlesticks and pedestal style containers and bowls, are weighted with wax, plaster or fillers with steel support rods for strength. Dinner knives from sterling flatware, have stainless steel blades with steel support rods and filler that run through the sterling silver handle. The silver is then poured or molded over this material in the manufacturing process.

All sterling silver must be free of all stainless steel and weighted filler like wax, cement, plaster, support rods and glass.

If you attempt to strip your sterling silver of its weighted materials, we recommend the use of gloves and protective eyewear.

I wouldn't for free, I'd definitely charge for it since it is now your property.

Whatever the circumstance.....it's her leg!   Your cold, Alloro, cold.   LOL

That's odd.   Yeah, why is it in storage?

That's...hmmmm......I guess I would return it.   They are made to fit but other than that area the rest would be some bucks.     No clue where to sell.  Probably easier to donate...the VA or something?...but in that case you might as well return.

You put it in a box.  Then you put that box in another box.  Then you mail it to yourself and when it arrives you SMASH IT WITH A HAMMER!!!

No really.  Smash handle.  Use pliers to pull out blade.   It's mounted in a ceramic type substance so don't smash flat.  Just enough to loosen with space to shake out insides......

Try not to destroy silver marks or if on blade keep blades to show scrapper.

[update]
Found ya a youtube video....

Be sure to let us know the weight loss after removing blade.

Stock headlights, bumpers, grilles....all for GM SUV's. All new in box

I've had them for years.  Sell here and there for cheap and don't have many left.

Headlights I put up on ebay but everything else is to costly and a b*tch to ship so just CL them.

Other one was the vise.   $450 Retail. It was in great shape.  Took six months to sell and only got $60.

How do I keep missing these?   I've been to busy to read thru everything here but overlooking this for a month is just sad.....

I think I should win.    I posted zero news stories but I posted the best news stories!   ;D

I tried to find something in your area but not much luck.   Place in Houston but can't find reviews...is it true that in Houston they take your picture and prints when selling gold/silver?   F*** that!

Here we have a few estate buyers.  They will pick out flatware that's worth more sold, then offer price for it and the scrap.   Scrap going for around $0.50 +/- a gram right now for flate ware.  Not bad, my math on your was like $18-something a Troy Oz. and most are buyers are at around $16.80.   Obviously they have to buy below spot......

I'll ask around and see if anyone around Dallas knows a spot.

Have you looked into those 'mail it in' places?  I've never used but seems easy enough.

Anyone ever use mail in service?

Whoops.     I just red the description and it list everything I saw.....guess I should read the fine print before commenting. :-[

See!  From my b*tch in he other thread about our blurry pictures......I wouldn't bid on this

To answer....I'd say tool box.  Chop saw.  What at first looks like survey equipment but staring at it forever I think its not.   Is that Go cart frame?  Remote controll airplanes but might be $20 gliders

$900?   No way.   I'm missing something.

Last auction of the month and I got nada......

15 units but over 60 people.   Was a mostly indoor facility so all those people in small hallways....took FOREVER!!  Worse, we couldn't get a good look.  Just herded thru.

First ones were horrible.  Mostly empty.  Junk.  One went for a dollar, another not a single bid.  Then a few okay ones that went for $65-$225.  Profit margin was either slim or just to much junk stuff for me.

Then some good ones.

Janitor business: floor buffers, industrial carpet cleaners.  I was interested but held back because it was full of broken stuff and junk.  Lots of chemicals to dispose of.  Opened at five hundred and shot o $1800.
Wasn't about to drop $1800 on items I have no fast outlet for and would have had to rent the 20x20 (no way I was getting it clean in 48hrs) and rent a bid a** truck....

Construction unit:  really wanted this one.  Had a set of 18" Mercedes rims.  New cabinets.  Only went for $225.  I stopped because.....I don't know why.  lol.    For some reason I just wasn't feeling it once the bidding got going.  Money maker but a lot of specific items.  Hard sells for me.  And everything was huge and I don't have space for things I'm not sure of outlet to sell.
Was thinking of Travis on this unit.  Had a double oven in it, used.   Overheard a guy telling wife "that alone is $2000".  Yeah, good luck with that.  :)

Last unit I was pissed.  Saw a file safe hidden.  Probably papers but...?   Saw a couple jewelry boxes.  Bunch of stuff that's my kind of thing to sell.
Small hall, lots of people.  I got ushered down.   Told him I was interested i want to be up front but was told to go to end of hall.  I'm standing there and everyone is noisy and I'm trying to bid, can't hear bids, suddenly its sold.  I'm like WTF?!    Really pissed.

Oh well, my shoulder is killing me.  Probably shouldn't be cleaning out units anyway...... :'(

To answer a few of your questions.....

I'm here because its just a bunch of us talking.  With he exception of Travis, no one has an agenda.  Swap'n ideas and story's and finds.....

I don't use ST because:

1) your blog entries are usually useless.   They don't give any information.  They are opinion pieces.  I understand.  Hard topics when laws vary from city to city, state to state.   I do enjoy reading them.  They are amusingly written, in a good way.   I just pop'd over and red the stolen prop and gun ones.  Didnt answer the question you proposed.  I didnt finish and know the answer.   Your fault?  Absolutely not.  How could you possibly answer those questions nation wide?    But it was a waste for me to read, info was wrong for my state....

Here?  We have discussion on those topics and get feedback.  Correct answers?  It's the Internet, who knows?  But get you thinking and researching to add content.

2) ST has no auctions in my area of hundreds of facilities and a population of many million.
The dates you have next to the facilities I'm attending this week are wrong.

Again, I totally don't blame you.   Facilities here change dates constantly. No way your keeping up uless facility has ability  (and does) update your site themselves [I want compensation for this idea :)]
Ex: called place two weeks ago, Are you still holding auction today?
No, it moved to next Monday.
(Monday) auction today?
Nope, moved to Friday
(Friday) auction?
No, you missed it.  We had yesterday.

Pretty much the only way you would of known it was going on is if you had gone to the auctioneers other auctions......

Last two thoughts:
I won't use online auctions until people learn to use a camera and something towards capturing your subject matter.   Four blurry pictures and one from ten feet away with shadow across door just doesn't cut it.  Bidding is risky enough.

I have no problem with you or ST.  But the unprofessionalism of your comments I have a problem with.  I don't do business with people that talks down about competitors.  I've addressed this to Travis in the past also.  He has apologized and removed his comments.  I think removing your rants is not a bad thing.  Its to your benefit that he removes them, IMHO
..............

Okay, just went back to read over this to see if my rambling made sense....not really but also noticed it sounded like I was smashing your site.  Not my intention.   Meant to be like constructive criticism.

 Just say'n.

Also, sorry for typo's and dang autocorrect.....it was a rant, typed fast on ipad.  To lazy to go fix.  Deal with it.   :)
