Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: What's your worst score ?
« on: December 03, 2012, 02:43:43 PM »
ive had several where ive thrown pretty much everything away but the flat out worst one i ever got was a 10x10 loaded about 8 feet high through the whole unit, the unit looked nice to me there were cases of food (new and canned) up front
there was a milwalkee circular saw showing, boxes and boxes of books a couch etc it looked pretty good
well i won it for around $100 and proceeded to rent it ( another $50 public storage rental) and finished the rest of the 2 day auction circuit
well later the next day i find out whos room it was and its someone i know from my flea market , the guy who goes arounf at the end of the day and picks up the stuff no one wants to carry home

the food was expired , the books were romance novels the tools didnt work , 6 matresses in the back where they couldnt be seen
it took me the better part of a week to throw everything out and cost another 150 or so in dumping fees
the real kick in the ass was when i looked through one of the several boxes of christmas stuff and realized that one full box of it was stuff i gave him the previous december (bought the unit in february)

when i have bad thoughts about units this one always pops into my head first and foremost

in my humble opinion you should hit everything you can unless theres a valid reason not to .

theres only one place i avoid on purpose as its below ground level in a flood prone area and i wont make that mistake twice

ive gotten crap lockers in good areas and great lockers in crappy areas
ive gotten beautiful looking lockers that were junk and awfull looking lockers that turned out sweet

Does this sound like Glendon Cameron to anyone else?

not to me
ive watched many of his videos and hes never mentioned anything more than he made a very good living at it . Him stating a dollar amount like that would be completely out of character .

to me it sounds like a generic internet idiot

Well, add another year to the storage auction industry's recovery.  :'( Forgetaboutit

my 2 cents is prices go higher , but not as high as they were at the peak and taper off in several months possibly 3 in the rest of the country im guessing around june or july next year for me

fyi keep your eye on the size of the rooms if everyones buying 10x20 and 10x30 every week im calling bs
rooms around here tend to run smaller 5x5 5x10 and 10x10 being the norm and there have been days where i can go through an entire public caravan see 30-50 rooms and never see anything bigger than a 10x10

I bought a unit 10x10 that reeked of mold when they opened the door . I paid $50 for it and threw out cases and cases of brand new merchandise that were ruined , brand new leather jackets that the buttons had rusted right through the coats. The unit stunk to high heaven

I bought an 8X8 at a uhaul for $80 and the rat smell was so overpowering, There was rat crap everywhere . I had to step outside 5 or 6 times while cleaning it out to catch my breath

would i buy a gross unit again ?

hell yes

top one got me over 2 k bottom one got me 1500 , you never know whats there untill your done with everything
