For me I sell the furniture so that's how I bid. Re-sale value on furniture and the boxes is the profit. I have done very good with this method but I have a store and a customer base for the furniture.

Yes I  bought one unit and bid on a couple of others. I would think that you would have to have multiple accounts to do what you are asking. When I bid I just enter my max bid and hope for the best.
One I was bidding on kept forwarding the end time. Auction was supposed to end at 2:00 then at 2:00 time changed to 2:30. Not sure what that was about. Another one I was bidding on disappeared about a half of an hour before end time. I really wanted it and have a good relationship with the manager so I called her. The locker owners mom came in and paid for the unit so she had to pull it. Was a real disappointment but that is how it goes.
I have two local facilities that use SealedOnlineBids and they are the only ones I will bid on. I have dealt with the managers in the past and have trust in what they post.

We quit even shopping the auctions for vehicles about three years ago. Mainly for the same reasons Travis said. E-bay was great for a while then things went through the roof. We bought several from an auction in Benicia until they went out of business. A couple of pieces of small equipment were bought from Richie Bros. The last couple of times we bought vehicles they came from Craigslist.
I do have to say that most are used in our construction company but a few were bought just for resale because we couldn't pass up the potential profit. Descent used vehicles that we can purchase out right have just seemed to make more since than buying new.

One week in and have paid for all of my units. Now into profit. I haven't put a dent into the inventory. I have another art guy coming in this weekend as my first guy likes older stuff and wasn't really sure of what I have because it is newer. I still haven't even taken an inventory of the NASCAR stuff. For that matter I don't really have a good inventory of anything except for the art. I have been through most of it and weeded out the trash. Tomorrow I start pricing and getting stuff on the floor.
I couldn't help myself and checked for up coming auctions tonight. LOL Lucky I found none right now.

#89 You are moving to Tibet and don't need your stuff so you just surrender it to the manager. ???? (true story)

Day 2 still in shock and tired as heck. I still have most of one unit to clean out tomorrow. It looks like most of the stuff in it was used to stage a home for sale. Most of it looks pretty good. Should be an easy sell. Manager said it belonged to the owner so maybe he was in real estate.

I had to rent a storage unit myself as I will never get all of this stuff in my store and still be able to sell out of there. LOL

NASCAR unit is awesome (yes I am a fan so that helps). Lots of file boxes that were loaded directly on a pallet to go to recycle. I didn't count but I am guessing 30 to 40 boxes of diecast in all different sizes. Also again I'm guessing 50 to 60 brand new model cars. If you need a bug reflector for your truck I've got it. LOL I think my son said there were a dozen new in box. I did bring 3 boxes of cars home to research and hope to get them listed on e-bay tonight.

My art unit keeps throwing out surprises. Tonight right before I left I opened a boxed marked frames. There was signed art in the frames but in the bottom of the box wrapped in several towels was a WW2 Army helmet. Lucky for me my art guy also dabbles in military items. He will be in on Tuesday to help me out with a lot of this stuff.

Unit #3 (as I have yet to give it a name LOL) Has a nice Crate and Barrel loft in it and all of the pieces are there. Only one of the antique nightstands is good. The shelving units are great and have already been put to use.

I did take a few pictures and will try to post soon.

Today was crazy and I am still stunned! Auction this morning had 8 units available. Only one other bidder showed up. The manager went ahead with the sale. This was a silent bid (those don't happen very often around here).
I won 5 units!! (did I mention in an earlier post that I am trying to move soon?) What was I thinking?
Unit #1- $55.00 5X10 ok fishing gear, .22 shot gun, Yamaha drum set (my son is researching so far between $900 and $3000)
Unit #2- $100 10X10 Manager unit. I know your thinking Really? Furniture looks great!! Haven't gotten to go through all of it but I should make $300.00 or so.
Unit #3 $60.00 10X10 There are a couple of antique nightstands, several boxes and a nice metal shelving unit that I can use in the new store. I have't gone through this one at all yet.
Unit #4 $120.00 10X10 This is the unit I am calling the Dale Earnhardt Sr. unit. What I could see from the door. One display case with (and I counted) 250 cars all new in box, another display case that I could not see in, several new truck parts, and lots of boxes. I can't wait to get into this one.
Unit #5 $100.00 10X20 The manager need this one cleaned out right away or I would have waited. It was a mess but a couple boxes marked art caught my eye. This is the WOW factor locker!! My score for the year. First place I looked was under a rug in a wooden crate right up front. It was a  Frederic Remington Bronze statue titled Coming Through the RYE. Auction value is $7500 to $9000. One box marked art has two Thomas Kinkade signed paintings worth over $6000. There are two other paintings worth around $2000.00. 4 original hand drawn maps from 1884 that have certificates of authenticity. I haven't looked them up yet. So many boxes that haven't been opened yet.
I will try to get some pictures posted tomorrow evening. I'm still in total shock and have to wait until tomorrow evening to get back to it.

Holiday stuff gets collected and stored in the rafters all year. With all of the costumes in the store this year I made over $500.00. (I don't sell any clothes)
Christmas moved very well this year. Any light sets that don't work (even if it is only one bulb out) get tossed. Sold about $70.00 worth of good ones for $1.00 a string. I blew out anything having to do with a manger. Dishes and fake trees didn't go so good this year. You just never know.
I have two boxes of Easter stuff that will come down soon. I always sell out of baskets.

The Lounge / Re: Gun Control

Every gun store in my area is sold out and can't say when they are getting anything back in. Right now the big stores are first priority for restocking. We have none of them in our rural area. So much for the $400.00 gift certificate I got my husband for his new pistol.
I went to buy .22 shells for him (one of his stocking suffers every year) and couldn't find any anywhere. Guess the ground squirrels are gonna take over the world. LOL

Stories about Storage Auctions / Re: Craziest finds of 2012

For me the prison art was the craziest. Beautiful pictures drawn in pencil of mostly naked women. Sure don't want that one to know I got his or his womans stuff. He went to prison for attempted murder according to the court paperwork and newspaper clippings.

Auction yesterday was not bad. Six units and around 20 bidders.
First unit 10 X 12 full of what looked like dirt bike and quad parts and tons of plastic totes. Went for 695.
Second unit 5 X 5 was garbage. Some one paid 5 for it. Guess the trash can was worth that.
Third unit 10 X 12 had a lot of pieces of wood, several boxes and the sleeper (I don't think many could see it) was a Craftsman table saw. Went for 30.
Unit four and five were owned by the same person. Both 10 X 15 nicely packed with several tools showing. Went for 700 and 550.
Last unit 10 X 20 had gotten wet. Facility had pulled several things out so they could fix the water leak. Still kicking myself for not bidding. Water was only in the first 5 foot. Went for 90. Wet items were nice bedding, fake fur jackets (2), vintage lamp and art prints.
Guess I'm just not that motivated right now as the lease has just been changed and I am looking for a new location for the store. I have a great one in mind but it needs a lot of work so probably moving sometime in the near future. Actually kind of excited about it just not sure how much new inventory I want to bring in right now.

Hasn't been slow around here so not sure why you aren't seeing them where you are at.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: How much time to clean out a locker ?
« on: November 29, 2012, 11:49:13 AM »
Most facilities say that you have to have the unit empty by the end of the day. I have found that only one in my area is truly that strict (they have a 100% rental rate and normally already have the units rented before auction). I have a place to bring my stuff to so I have never taken more than two days to empty a unit. A couple of facilities give time based on how much is in the unit.
For newbies just remember if this is long term for you make sure you leave the unit spotless. I always leave them very clean and the managers/owners remember me for that. I have been told several times that no one ever leaves a unit that clean. (My mom usually even knocks down the spider webs. It's her pet peeve) The managers/owners really appreciate being able to rent a unit right away without having to do any work. When they start remembering you they tend to work with you more.

I take the time to go through everything. This year alone I have gleaned over $300 on change and close to $200 on cash found in pockets, purses and the like. $50.00 in Walmart gift cards. $30.00 in Starbucks gift cards. $30.00 in a Staples gift card. These have all come out of old greeting cards. I would have lost several hundred on gold by throwing away things that most would not even take the time to look through.
I must say that I do have a large shop and plenty of storage so I don't mind that it sometimes takes several weeks to put merchandise on the shelves. Usually when I purchase a locker it all gets loaded up and brought here. Everything is gone through by myself and my mom. Sometimes the rest of the family helps if a unit was purchased on or near the weekend. Everything is sorted at the store not at the locker. I think that people who sort at the facility don't always take the time to go through everything.
For me part of the thrill in this is finding that $20 bill in a coat pocket or a 14K ring in a purse. It doesn't happen with every unit and I know that but I think it is worth my time.

The most I have paid on a locker is $1100. It was a 10 X 30. Great unit.

Like Cobia I bid a unit to $2900 and $1800 and didn't win. Both units were owned by the same person who was a plumber. There was some great stuff in both lockers. I would have loved to have both.
