PayPal / Re: PayPal....How do you get your funds ?
« on: January 11, 2014, 12:12:55 PM »
whats with the barrage of very basic questions which can easily be looked up on paypal and ebay tos? 99.9% of all payments on ebay are made via paypal and you wire it to your bank account for free

PayPal / Re: Does PayPal ever hold your funds for any reason?
« on: January 11, 2014, 12:11:46 PM »
ebay has a 21 day hold for new users and for some "high risk" categories. paypal holds are the ones that really hurt though

PayPal / Re: The PayPal/eBay connection
« on: January 11, 2014, 12:11:01 PM »
In October 2002, PayPal was acquired by eBay for US $1.5 billion in stock. It was originally owned by an entrepreneur named Elon Musk.

That's why ebay forces you to accept paypal for payments extra revenue for them. they get to charge the listing fees and any additional features you choose, the final value fees and then collect fees onthe payment as well

eBay / Re: What do you think is the best time for an eBay auction to end?
« on: January 11, 2014, 11:00:13 AM »
too many factors. you know alot of times i find auctions ending around 3pm to be the best. yeah i know people are at work but 3-5 is the times at work that people in offices get bored, grab a cup of coffee, surf the web and be lazy, do personal stuff. i have a lot of sales aorund this time.

yeah i can see how 7 is good people home from work but at that point people watching tv, busy with kids, etc. i personally find i tend to slack off at work and have 3 time to brose the wb and stuff the last hour or two of the day at work.

i guess it really depends though. if your selling tools figure most trades people probably get outta work at like 2 or 3. if your selling something which would appeal more to a mom well stay at home moms are around all the time. really kinda depends on who what your selling appeals to

eBay / Re: What is your "return" policy on eBay ?
« on: January 11, 2014, 10:54:34 AM »
I accept returns up to 14 days ONLY because I'm required to to keep my power seller status and top rated seller plus status, otherwise i wouldn't. i do however charge a 20% restocking fee. there's no reason to return my items so if a customer wants to return they are going to pay. this helps discourage returns while still offering them to comply with policy. not everyone can do the restocking fee though. one of my accounts i can another i cant. not sure why, whether it has to do with the level of my store or that one isn't top rated and power seller.

Top Rated Plus listing requirements

Exceptions to the Top Rated Plus requirements for discount eligibility
Listings with a freight shipping service must accept returns, but aren't required to offer same business day or 1 business day handling.

The following aren't eligible for Top Rated Plus benefits:

I don't, i occasionally get requests but im worried about people getting mad at long shipping times or customs holding packages or even customs fees all out of my control but still things people leave bad feedback for. aslo im not eligible for global shipping so its not like i can just ship to nashville and its in ebays hands, im responsible for item getting to buyer in the foreign country and i dont trust foreign post offices, ours is bad enough lol

good thinking there. yeah packaging materials can get expensie so finding shortcuts like this definately helps. you can get packaging materials free from many businessses. i often see in the free section in my local cl people giving away literally dozens of enormous bags filled withh packing peanuts

I do First Class for free and just roll the cost into my product cost as when you offer free shipping you automatically get a 5 star for dsr and also you rank higher in searches. buyers like it too.

i also offere Priority as an upgrade. I don't offer express or fedex because when someoen is paying $25 for shipping and orders at 10am they want it going out same day. i can't always hsip same day however i always ship within 24 hours. i felt too much risk for neg feedback if im not able to ship right away.

i occasionally get people asking for upgraeded shipping. i always decline. its a headache, i have to invoice them outside of ebay which sorta worries me as that's kinda a grey area as far as if its allowed or not, techincally ebay would probably like to take their cut out. the other issue is as a power seller/top rated seller im required to ship within 24 hours. someone waits til 6 hours after buying to tell me they want upgraded. even if i send an invoice right away they wait a day to pay, now im at risk of losing my ebay power seller and top rated seller status so i just tell people whats offered is whats offered. if they want expeditedd shipping they can get off ebay and go to my website, i obviously dont tell them this through ebay

eBay / Re: The eBay/Craigslist connection
« on: January 11, 2014, 10:27:47 AM »
yeah the craigslist guy had always said he would never allow advetising on cl or charge for cl. well they've changed that a bit chargin modest fees for like the massage section and jobs section which imho actually improves the site as it keeps fake job ads off.

i forget why he sold but he sold a percentage of the company to ebay years ago for a pretty huge sum of money if i remember correctly.

eBay / Re: More info about posting pics on eBay and Craigslist
« on: January 11, 2014, 10:25:52 AM »
in the past the good reason for html on ebay was to avoid paying fees for pictures i think they used to charge 0.10 cents a pic. now they stopped doing that, you can have 12 pics for free. while i agree i like being able to put bigger pictures in you can still list up to 12 pics for free and users can turn them into larger shots if they want so won't be a huge loss unless you use templates and have pics in your templats

eBay / Re: Stolen items on eBay
« on: January 11, 2014, 10:24:06 AM »
wow thats pretty strange. did the buyer claim that some unique identifier about the tool shows it was his? i mean was his initials on the drill handle in marker or something? if not i highly doubt serial number or anything were visible in the pictures. id be like dude, this is a makita drill just like 100,000 others which were made. is he even near you location wise?
