General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Video Games
« on: October 16, 2013, 02:58:18 PM »
I believe it is the sport package. We also have the wireless exercise step for Wii fit. What is the sport package selling for?

I got a used Wii, two controllers with chucks, two aftermarket w/chucks and charging station, exercise package (wii fitness, active, yoga and the step thingy), gun controller and 10 games (mostly the  'Call of Duty' line) for $149.99.....back in 2011

Pawn shop has the Wii and one controller for $34.99.    GameStop sells package for $100 (not sure what comes in it, think two controllers and Wii sports)

Is the government shut down effecting your business?

I don't know if its due to government shutdown but CL has been dead.
I can only assume people are being frugal with their money until things aren't so uncertain.
Most, if not all, of what I list is "want" items, not "needed".   Need to keep an eye out for things like bread makers.  Appeal to people's idea of living cheap......

WTF?    Guess they don't want to deal with small businesses.

PayPal / Re: Funds Being Held by PayPal
« on: October 12, 2013, 12:41:06 PM »
I dont know about all that but last three buy-it-now transactions I've done they've done an eCheck so payment to buyer was delayed by 3-5 days.

Why?   No clue.  I had PP funds and account is linked to debit car and credit card.

I was pissed.  Paid BIN and overnight shipping because I needed item NOW!   Then PP delayed payment 5 days.   Buy the time the payment went thru I didn't need item.

eBay / Re: Ebay insurance
« on: October 12, 2013, 12:24:47 PM »
Ebay has been using Shipcover for a while, few years.   I personally haven't used them so asked a friend....
Said they do have some good points.  He likes that the shipping label isn't maked "insured"
1) doesn't tempt thieves since only higher value items would be insured, right?
2) people don't think you jacked them on shipping cost.  (I don't get his one but he had a long explanation that I stopped listening too)
3). They pay claims faster

Cons: more expensive on lower valued items and they don't reimburse shipping cost.

Personally, I just use Postal insurance.  I've only had one claiming my life and it was easy and its cheap.

eBay / Re: China set
« on: October 10, 2013, 12:37:24 PM »
I've had a few and always ended up selling piece by piece.
Like MM said, platers and gravy boats go first, then a plate here, cup there.....

I have a set that lists for thousands.  It's from WWII era Japan.  Not a peep (except dealers with insulting low ball offers) when trying to sell it for $750....but lots of offers for one plate for $100 or $25 for a saucer.

China is just a hard sell.  No one has formal dinners anymore and nice dish ware is so cheap these days (and dishwasher safe).   But they are willing to spend big bucks replacing a plate from grandmas set....

Think in another 10-15 years, unless there is a 'trend' that pops up, selling china will be near impossible.
No one really use's it, or has in a while, so it will be meaningless to 20-something's of today that will be the buyers of tommarrow.

Picker's Paradise / Re: Nice pick
« on: October 07, 2013, 08:35:23 PM »
Yeah, I searched it high and low for any sign of a mark.  Nothing.

Can't find anything similar online.   Some close but prices are all over. Average is in the $75-$125 range.

Unfortunately my laziness causes me to look at it as a 'no F'n way am I shipping that' item so CL it is.

Might be a good thing.  First, I don't know much about it so ebay discription wouldn't be very inticing. Second, picturs don't do it justice.  I think someone seeing it in person will love it....if I can get good enough pictures to get them out to see it, that is.

Picker's Paradise / Nice pick
« on: October 06, 2013, 07:46:18 PM »
Picked this today for $10.
Beautiful hammer formed copper with dovetail joints, copper rivets and forged handle.
Thing weighs over 10 pounds. Stands about 20" and 14" diameter (Estimate, haven't measured)

Sorry, picture doesn't do it justice.  It looks all flat but has a perfect hammered texture. And not nearly as dull as it looks.  Really nice, shiny, patina.  All even, no streaks.

What do you think I should put as a starting price?

Oh.....Also got a yogurt maker for $3.  Because I like yogurt.

eBay / Re: Learn your shipping options <story>

Yeah, your pouring boiling water on it and it stays that temp for hours.  Temp goes down over night but still hot in morning.

Hikers/campers and people living on small boats use it.  Saves energy (cooking gas).
Make soups and stews even.  Tho, you want to brown meat first.  Good way to cook dry beans too.

It does takes some trial and error on time and water level.

Google "Thermos Cooking".    Lots of recipes.

eBay / Learn your shipping options <story>

I ordered a new thermos off of ebay.  Didn't really get a deal but cheaper than store.   $18 with shipping rather than $24.99+tax.   Guy had "maker offer" option.   Tried $5, $6,$7.....nope.

Figured out why.  Guy doesn't know how to ship!   Little thermos, he stuck into a medium flate rate box. $15.25 to ship.

Would have been $3-$4 if he had just wrapped in brown paper then taped the sh*t out of it.  He probably could have shoved it in a flat rate envelope!

But I got my thermos.  Now I can have real oatmeal or wheat berries for breakfast.
Before bed put in with boiling water.   By morning its done and have a hot breakfast all ready!

I got a meat slicer at goodwill for $19.99 - 20% coupon.
I actually wanted it but wasn't as industrial as I would have liked once I was able to better inspect it.
Stopped in BK for lunch and listed on CL.  10 minutes later I get an email and he came to BK.
He paid $60.

Technically the fastest flip was at an estate sale.   Got a drill for $10.  Guy in line behind me said "I knew I should have grabbed that when I saw it". Offered to sell for $15.
Okay, I only made $5 but I flip'd it in about 10 seconds!   ;D

Aluminum?

I've never seen one faux wood or that style.
Any markings on the maker?  The styles I've seen (new) go for $750 -$2000.

That one?  I dunno.  Have to figure out if its from some artsy home decor place or stamp out a million in cheap factory kind.......

Not to long ago it was just me and another guy.
Auctioneer requires at least three bidders so was going to cancel.
Other guy asked if we got someone else down would he continue.  Said yes.
Turned out he was a landscaper working in the area so he called one of his crew.
So it was me, him and a really confuse looking Mexican gentleman that didnt speak English. lol

Three units.  He got the first, I didnt bid.  He got second but I tried up to $100.  Third I got for the open of $20 and he didnt bid.  It was just some boxes and some garbage bags.   I got some new clothes, a crock pot that was way better than mine and split he rest into several donations so I could get multiple $10 off coupons at thrift store.   Didnt make any money but worth the $20.

I've had many of those.

At the door, during bidding it looks like a lotta work or time you don't have or not sure of what contents go for.
Then later regret once you process it all.

And I always forget that if need be I can just rent a unit for a month.  I'm just focused on what it will take to empty....NOW.

I've turned down many good, cheap units due to large furniture or mattresses.   Stupid.  But I just hate dealing with it all since I don't have a place to bring it.   I have to empty, sort, donate, dump run, all of it, in one night......
