I've never used it.  Found it when first was searching for auctions and quickly dismissed it.

I sure hope so.  Units have been slim in my area with lots of hungry regulars.  If it wasn't for yard sale picking I'd not have much inventory to sell at the flea.  Will see how the month looks on the 8th.

I'm holding out hope that AAA this month does have the 7 units of auto/car stuff he told everyone about last month.

Stores / Re: I don't own a store......

I just made friends with a few auction house owners and my buddy has a thrift store.  He will buy things that I have, and sell me stuff that I can profit on at the flea.  We also hunt yard sales for items for each other.

For us I sell him everything at 50% of what he thinks he can make.  Or he sells the items and gives me 50%.  Sometimes he makes more money, and sometimes less - it washes out.

This has worked for me as I have a place to take good furniture that I would use to stay away from.

Nice size crowd for a change.  I sort of hate piece by piece auctions unless I have nothing else to get done that day.  If you have the time and patience they can be profitable.  Just like yard sale picking.  Only one place in my area does them and I'm normally working so have only hit the place once.

eBay / Re: Best Sellers on Ebay

Now the big question is are those sells for "used" or "new" items.  Most of the cloths I see on ebay that sell for more then a $1 when I've looked were marked "new".

You would think with Atlanta being #1 or #2 airport in the US we would have a ton of auctions.  I think most of it gets sent or purchased by a major store in alabama I think it is.  It's a huge lost luggage store that sells everything.  My sister stopped in there on her way back from Huntsville and purchased a Nook.

I know in my area I've never seen one advertised.  Of course I don't know what the laws are in regard to luggage like that.  I'll have to try and look into it.  Bet you can find all sorts of interesting things in that luggage.  Maybe even more so than units.

Today I snuck out of work to hit two auctions.  The good news - crowds were low with less then 20.  The bad news - the lockers pretty much sucked.  There were two auctions at 10am so I hit the one with less units thinking smaller crowd.  Crowd was about a dozen, 1 regular, a 6mo newbie, and rest new faces to me but don't think they are too new.  This place cuts the locks in front of you.  First unit was a 5x10 with 6 boxes and a washer/dryer with the washer stacked on top of dryer.  Nothing great - $60.  Second unit had a shelf, fake tree, and lamp for $5.  The last unit was a 10x10 and slap EMPTY.  Was even swept out.

Second auction was also at 10 but is part of a caravan and they normally run slow.  1.5 hours later the auctioneer finally shows up.  Only 3 units down from 7.  I bid on the last unit but the local whale got it.  I ran it up to $170 and stopped.  With a 10%bp and tax it was getting close to $200 and it was only a $100 unit.  Looked like a school / daycare type stuff with a ton of arts & craft supplies, etc.

Auction wednesday but I have meetings so will miss them.  That will finish up the month for us.  Next month we start with U-haul so will see if June is kinder to me.

Took off early friday for a place that has auctions every other month.  First location was down to 1 unit, with the second location down to 2.  I've had small crowds and decent prices before here.  This month was good also (just not for me).  Five people at the first location, 2 old regulars, myself, and 2 6 mo old newbies.  Unit sold for $30 - nothing special.  Second location was 5 of us again, with 2 regulars, 2 older newbies like myself, and 1 6mo newbie.  First unit was like $225 and second unit was $325.  Was packed full with boxes and some appliances and furniture.  So was a good day overall crowd and price wise.

Well I found my local storage video.  All you can see is my truck (thank goodness).  The news story was ok - not too bad.  They did confess that they started doing this due to the shows and then flashed a bunch of cash.

We had this last month.  One of the local news stations showed up to film.  Laughed my tail off when they open the door and it is a 10x20 90% empty.  All of the regulars walked away.  I think it sold for $90 which was $80 over price.  Two hour wait before next auction since most people paid up on the caravan.  Once again 1 unit (inside) and I quickly avoided the unit and camera.

I was surprised the camera guy didn't get a fist in his face.  Inside the hall he kept putting the camera right in your face as your turn around from looking at the unit.  I just stood behind him as I know I'd of gotten upset if he had done that to me.

One of the local new regulars was interviewd.  I was heading out of town for a job interview so didn't see the news.  I need to go find the video.  My daughter said she found it and laughed.

I hate when the news shows up.  They cut and paste to make it all look good, simple, and easy.  Then we have to put up with another round of newbie's.

Glad you are up and running some again.  How did the cell phones work out?  My daughter just cracked the screen on her  :'(

$5 for the case and old hot water heaters was a great buy IMO.  Even if the saw isn't in there you can get money back for the scrap metal.  The other units sound like they went for way more then should (other then that 1st unit).

I'm gun shy on construction units.  My one big construction unit I paid $875 turned out to be a BAD mistake.  Didn't recoup all that money lost till mid-January of this year.  Did learn some very important lessons.

This should be down in the "Whats it Worth??" section.  Pictures would help also in determining a value.  Also, what people say is the value may be for ebay or it may be just for their region.  I can't sell a matress/boxspring at all but other people can sell them for $50+ all day long.

I would use ebay to get a general idea on value.  Look at the completed/sold listings.  The phone app is great for that.

Gratz rockin - sounds like a nice haul.  I myself prefer to stay away from pool tables.  I'd love one to use, just don't have the space to hold one.  If I ever get one I'll have to sell it out of the unit.

Keep up the great work.

Picker's Paradise / Re: Estate Sales
« on: May 21, 2012, 06:09:02 AM »
Very nice Alias.  I need to check out more estate sales in my area.  We just don't have them enough.  I use to do estate auctions but that was maybe 1 a month.  Is how I got into storage units.

Yard sales have been my bread and butter of recent.  Picked up a few items that have not sold like I thought they would but everything else is doing well.

Plan for this weekend if don't go out anywhere is to hit yard sales Saturday, sell at flea Sunday, rest Monday :)
