I don't have cable or satellite, so excuse my ignorance. Are shows about "hoggers" about wild pigs, Harley Davidson riders, large women or something else?

I've seen the promo for one of the hoggers shows and it's wild pigs, but your other suggestions might be the nuclei of a couple of new offerings in the "reality" venue.  ;)

Yep, may be time for a change of title.

I'm suggesting something simple that might reflect the whole auction scene to include, crowds, prices, general antics, therefore here's my suggestion, feel free to add your own to Money's thread and we'll go from there once Jan, 2012 arrives.

A simple suggestion would be "Auction Scene #1....January, 2012", "Auction Scene #2.....February, 2012", etc.

We used these threads with Lookey Loos all year to discuss the auction scene around the country, but for 2012 we should change the title. In my opinion the Lookie Loos were only a slight nuisance during the year, mostly over the summer with the kids and strollers and grandma and grandpa having to ALL get a look at the units.

Money4nothing has started a thread looking for possible new titles for the Lookey Loo series that is only a month a away in January, 2012.

Here's the link:

*******

Anyone who has followed these threads from #1 through this #12 might want to go there and make some suggestions.

Meanwhile I'll make my suggestion here (and there) and everyone is welcome to chime in; if there are no outstanding ideas, I'll just start the Lookey Loos Part 13....January, 2012 and we'll just rack up new numbers with the same theme.

A simple suggestion would be "Auction Scene #1....January, 2012", "Auction Scene #2.....February, 2012", etc.

Here we go again. This will be the 12th month I've started a thread with Lookey Loos in the title.

Come January, 2012 will have to figure out the numbering system for that year.

Anyway, I'll come back here Thursday, Dec, 1, 2011 in the afternoon after going to a flea in the morning (for buying) and then 3 or 4 auctions out of 7 possible hoping to get a lkr.

See you in LookeyLoos #12 tomorrow.

Just watching a show on rattlesnake collectors in Texas. This is on Animal Planet on Wednesday nights.

I do a fair amount of hiking and over the years have seen a dozen or so rattlesnakes. I always take pics of them, but that's as close as I get (10 x lens). All my sightings have been off-trail on cross-country hikes. Last ones I saw were in southern California near Blythe when doing some geode collecting.

The guys on this show are just plain crazy but have been doing it all their lives. The first group shown was going out in hopes of getting 20 snakes for which they would get $20 each..."You're looking down at $20 bills on the ground."

Think I'll stick with storage lockers, estate sales and flea markets.  ;)

The other day there were three auctions by the same auctioneer. The first one had about 15 lkrs and was only 18 miles away but I decided not to attend as the auctioneer has a large following.

Anyway, the first auction took a long time and I arrived at the 2nd auction 15 minutes late because I knew the auctioneer would be late getting there. I waited an hour. People from the first auction slowly started arriving, but word was he wasn't even through collecting money from half the buyers when they left the first place (18 miles away).

I decided not to stay and I later heard he arrived (where I had waited an hour) about an hour after I left.

Thanks for wasting my time. I went to another auction where at least they were on time and I got to do something beside cool my heels.

Many old regulars are not showing up consistently to auctions, and when they do, they are not bidding to win many units. We might be witnessing a "changing of the guard" in this industry where many of the old timers can no longer compete and are retiring or moving to other ventures.

Another good assessment Cobia.  In my area the regulars are still showing up pretty consistently, but some are going futher afield and ALL are picking and choosing more carefully those lockers they DO buy. I don't go further away, but I am being more picky about lkr buys. I am also buying more single items at fleas, estate sales, etc.

The day I can't compete won't come, but certainly adapting to the times is a reality.

If that's true.....SIGN ME UP !  ;D

Whoops !  In several places in the post just above I used more than the prescribed number of periods for an ellipsis.

Sorry !

I almost never correct people's grammar, but seeing as how this is about putting yourself above the intelligence level of those around you, I'm making an exception.

Don't get me started !  Ok, here's one for you.

In the quote above, your assertion ... "...seeing as how this is about..." would be less colloquial if you used "since" instead of "seeing as how".  Also, the use of "this" could be improved in the following manner (IMHO).

"....since this thread is about...."    ;D

Don't know if this was my best one, but it's right up there.

A 5 x 10 had a mattress in ok shape and some piece of biz machine on the floor facing away from us..it was about 3' x 2' x 1.5' high. No logo showing from the back. Couldn't tell what it was.

Guy bid $10; I bid $20 and got it.  The biz item was a "12-up" biz card cutter. Print shops print out biz cards either 8 up or 12 up and this machine cuts the cards in two directions separating all the cards (12 at a time) and they fall into bins.

Sold it on eBay for $1600...an 80 to 1 payoff and at high value....not like getting $80 for a $1 investment. Yep I was a happy camper. (gave the mattress to someone...not the guy who first bid !)

Overall it's been working out.......having a store is a double edged sword.....you can get rid of the "smalls", but you have to keep buying them so you have enough inventory in the store to sell........no inventory...no customers!

Yep....the old saying is right...."You can't sell from empty shelves."

First episode....Dave only makes $150 profit !

Darrel makes a little over $300

The couple didn't buy.

Barry finds a 1950's TETHER CAR and makes $6K profit ! (what are the odds...1,000,000 to 1 unless a producer helps you out).

******

2nd half hour coming up.

OK, the producers must have felt sorry for all the losers Barry has bought over the last year or so. He came away this time with a $2.5K profit from a flourite carved head that lights up.  Funniest part though...he drops the base on the top of the glass display case at a dealer's place and cracks the glass !
