eBay / Re: WOW, PowerSeller Discounts Really Add Up!!!
« on: August 31, 2012, 10:09:34 PM »
hi

i think they give the shipping discounts to everyone as long as they ship through ebay

im a bronze powerseller and theres no discount for that as far as i know

im also a top rated seller and the discount was 20% of final value fees but they dont discount the fvf on the shipping

another few reasons people put stuff into storage

someone died and relatives stick the stuff into storage untill the can go through it

he puts her out or she puts him out , tells them their stuff is in storage and if they want it to go pay the rent on it ( ;D i love these units)

a small business is storing their whatever and the owner has financial , medical or prison problems

landlord evicts tenant and puts their stuff into storage , again tells them you want it you pay for it

people running from their landlord packing their crap up in the middle of the night , putting it in storage and living with relatives

people who know they are going away for a while , prison, hospital etc and whoever they trusted to pay  the rent doesnt

people who move a great distance and wind up buying duplicate crap wherever they wound up

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: PODS vs UHAUL vs Other Facilities
« on: August 18, 2012, 04:19:25 PM »
The absolute best worst room i ever got was from a uhaul. It was an 8x8 upstairs unit  packed about 3 foot high and the records were good and plenty of them , the tools were good and again lots of them , the guy was an amateur photographer and the cameras were good too and there were 8 or 9. the computer at the time was recent and quality. The price was only $80 and the unit gave and gave and gave
This is back in 2007 or so

the bad parts and they were really pretty bad , everything was heavy and had to be hand carried to the end of the aisle and down a flight of stairs to get to a cart, in and of itself not so bad BUT the place was the biggest hellhole ive ever been in . MOST RATS IVE EVER SEEN IN ONE PLACE. ive smoked for a long time and generally cant smell anything , this was awfull , all you could smell was rat . there was crap everywhere . i saw 10 or 12 dead ones durring the auction and many live ones running around durring the course of the day . For those of you that dont know if youve got a bunch , 30 or so people walking around at an auction durring the day, and you see live rats running around with no fear of humans, theres a ****load of rats
while i was emptying the room i was watching several of them run back and forth under doors  down the aisle from where i was

some of the uncovered items looked like they had been stored under a rabbit hutch

;D on the lighter side my cat had a good time sniffing the hell out of everything

i dont know if anyone else saw it , but if your item has bids and you cancel the auction before it ends (made a mistake , sold it elsewhere etc) your going to get hit with final value fees

they have to be scripting this to be more antagonistic , darryl cant be this big of a goof

Our pss in ny changed where they post them to make them harder to find.  The easiest way to find them will be either storage treasures or storageunitauctionlist ... This one is $ per month.

public storage is changing how and where they advertise and auction rules month by month by month . Im told by a district manager they were having problems with many of the new people that were coming out. Your best bet is to go visit a local facility mid month and ask the manager when the next one is. I dont even bother looking for them in the paper anymore as they have been switching papers every month. Unless you have a direct phone # to one of the stores your not going to get much help over the phone either.

Episode #2 tonight.....

Jeff...wants a level playing field.....wise up chump...it's every man for himself and the auctioneer plays favorites !

We have several auctioneers who "didn't see" that last bid that buyer "B" placed, so buyer "A" gets the lkr.

Jeff ?  :P (rasberries !)

Barry: flies to Vegas to check out his car parts...price will be so inflated he won't lose money this time..or will he?

Next new episodes, July 10, 2012.

i  liked barrys locker ,  i dont think i would have spent that kind of money for it but i liked it, the gas pedal and blower set up are over priced but still would have made money on the blower alone assuming it was complete  ($3200 new)http://www.mooneyesusa.com/shop/product.php?products_id=2155

As long as it looks good that all that matters. When we sell we make sure everything looks great and dress good. Hate seeing people out in there harley shirts with a smoke hanging out of there mouth selling. Looks so unprofessional , but do like it cause buyers seem to come to our booth more and by pass the joe the rag bag look. Looking professional and have a professional set up is the key for getting your asking price .

at the dump i go to  looking professional works against you as the cheap bastards assume your going to be too expensive

and most people there use free weights and rope

First half hour on 6/12/2012…

A room with a view….you can see through a window to the outside..Barry gets it.

Second lkr..antique items. Jarred…sick as a dog…jumps in against Darrel at $3K.
Dave gets it at $4.1K.

Third lkr…Jacuzzi showing. Tools…let the battle begin.

Darrel is an idiot…after all these years he doesn’t realize that none of us can control what kind of lockers come up?  And he didn’t seem to bid on anything for any length of time.

If you recorded this with a Tivo or other device, catch Brandi revealing her TRAMP STAMP at 16” into the show (right after the boat compass shows). They end up getting a lot of old navigational equipment (reproductions but worth something).

Barry finds…..the view is nice. Gets into tubs. Oh yeah…tools for ice sculpting by chefs!
Got one of those just last week ! Expert says….$1500.

Dave looks over a good looking bronze statue. Overvalues everything he touches. He paid $4100 and estimates it at $7.5K (maybe ?) Bronze statue..expert says…$3500.

Going to Tivo the 2nd half hour and review it later.

i enjoyed the tramp stamp

my 2 cents

return in investment  is kind of overrated in this business on a per locker basis. It doesnt tell the whole story by a long shot.

using moviemans last example the 1900 locker with the 3800 return

it nowhere accounts time into the equation

if that locker took a week or less to flip its a killer deal
if it took 2-3 weeks to flip it was a good deal
if it took the better part of 6 weeks to deal with all of a sudden its not looking all that wonderfull anymore

and the return on investment stays the same

ive bought several cheap crappy looking lockers for $5-50  and have both scored and lost, for the past year ive tried to stay away from them. I have other things i can be doing and dont want to get locked into  dealing with something marginal at best and losing the time i could have otherwise spent doing something more productive.

that being said the crap lockers are a great way to get started and not a horrible deal for a part timer if they have the time to spare
