PayPal / Re: Paypal Seller Protection Is Good...But Not Perfect
« on: December 05, 2013, 01:34:36 PM »
That's why the PO tries to sell you loss/theft/damage insurance with your postage.

their insurance doesn't cover my product category, no shipping service does, i have to insure through a third party company. even if i did buy tehir insurance good luck trying to get paid out by them.

How would one even do that? Is it like an installed program?

It's a bitcoin wallet program referred to as a paperwallet. Anyone who's not an idiot will have their key on a zipdrive and not the hard drive and even if it is on the hardrive it should be password protected. what you could do is use computers you find as mining machines but they would have to have good graphics cards unless you wanna mine some of the less popular coins and do cpu mining as opposed to gpu mining

PayPal / Paypal Seller Protection Is Good...But Not Perfect
« on: December 05, 2013, 08:34:58 AM »
Okay, so I'm sure you guys are aware of Paypal seller protection. As long as you ship to the address on the buyers account your covered if the tracking shows delivered but buyer claims they didn't receive the item.

What it doesn't cover however is if the package is lost by the post office...ie. shows the package was scanned in, shows it going through one or more sorting facilities but just never shows delivered or no updates, Paypal does not cover you.

Now Paypal seller protection is great it has saved me money a few times but more often than not packages just get lost and never show any further tracking, when I call post office nobody knows where packages our. These ones I have to take as a loss.

Doesn't really make sense to me why they cover one but not the other. Basically Paypal says if you shipped and it shows delivered you did your part as a seller, its not your fault so you wont take hte loss. To me its the same thing as long as my package shows any tracking whatsoever it proves I shipped the item yet and did whats required of me but I'm not covered.

I guess Paypal is moer covering us from scamming buyers than lost post office items. I guess its better than nothing but not perfect.

General Storage Auction Talk / Did My First Sale For Bitcoins!!!
« on: December 05, 2013, 08:23:06 AM »
Okay, so typically I don't ship outside of the US. I don't like packages getting held up in customs, I don't like buyers complaining about how long packages take to get to them when it's totally out of my control. Typically if I'm going to ship outside the US, with the exception of Canada, I require people to pay by Cashiers Check and tell them the risk is on them I'm not going to replace a lost package out of my pocket but people want what I sell and can't buy outside of US so all agree.

Anyhow, had someone in south africa want to buy from me. Told them only cashiers check. They message me back 3 more times, I see you accept paypal I wanna pay paypal. She claims you can't buy USD cashiers checks in south africa. Anyhow, not really expecting her to even know what they are I tell her, I've already told you 3 times, I only accept Paypal from US customers, I can take a cashiers check...or I'd be happy to accept Bitcoins as well. Never expected her to have any but sure enough she did and I'm able to ship today. Nice thing is bitcoins hit my wallet this morning so there's not chargebacks and no taking them back.

btw, I'm not trying to screw people but I don't trust foreign post offices or that go between period when its getting shuffled froom USPS to the foreign post office and I don't wana take the risk of lost packages. If customers are willing to take that risk knowing I won't cover lost items thats on them.

The FVF are automatically refunded if you open an unpaid item case. You can even have unpaid item cases opened automatically after X number of days so that you don't have to watch them.

i run into a lot of scenarios where i wind up having to refund a product or do a partial refund. those are the ones i tend to forget about and overtime its hundreds of dollars worth of fvf for products i never sold and sales that didn't go through.

smetimes its someone buys and then requests i ship to a diff address so i refund. someones address isn't valid, etc.

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Anyone sell on the Deep Web?
« on: December 03, 2013, 01:35:44 PM »

1) The web we know...19 terabytes of info....the deep web...7,500 terabytes of info.
It is content not indexed by search engines, including illegal commerce sites like Silk Road,
password protected sites, databases and old websites.

2) Topics of interest:

fake passports, hit men, drugs, explosives, child porn, stolen identities, counterfeit currency, guns, etc.

As to these two issues. Yeah it gets a bad rep for being just a blackmarket thing but you know how you always hear once something goes on the internet it's there forever, at least to someone who knows how to search for that stuff. THere's actually pretty practical uses. Say Chicago Tribune did an article a few years ago they took offline, you could find it on the deep web so for researching things where there's dead links and stuff like that you can still find info which is not online anymore.

Given #2 above are we still interested in selling an old lamp there ?

Granted, there's really not a need for the secrecy and anonymity selling an old lamp but heck coffee shops, pizza places and other brick and mortar stores are accepting bitcoins as are websites selling normal non illegal products like alpaca socks for example. The nice thing for sellers is there's no chargebacks, no paypal disputes, no credit card disputes, once you have your payment the buyer cant take it back. Its also an instantaneous transtion no waiting for funds to clear.

Bitcoins?  A whole other story. They are non-traceable and only have value for buying other things with bitcoins, though I suspect there is a place on the deep web where you can trade bitcoins for real cash...at a discount...giving money laundering a  new role in the 21st century.  A bitcoin's value fluctuates....currently in the $200 plus range.

You don't even need to go to the deepweb to change bitcoins for cash. It's a legit service provided by sites like coinbase. You can also place ads on Craigslist and sell them on there. Meet in person, get cash and then send the bitcoins to that persons wallet. There's also sites like localbitcoins where you can convert your bitcoins back into cash.

There really isn't any regulation in place yet but the government loves to tax and regulate everything and they are concerned about money laundering so they are looking into it now. The thing is bitcoin was designed so there's no central control and so it cannot be regulated so we'll see how things play out.

Site above is probably the most common way to turn money into bitcoins and bitcoins back into money.

Here's also a quick article if anyone is interestd basically breaking down bitcoins and how they work, how they are held, and how to buythem for beginners.

Hey guys I guess this should be common sense but it's something I forget about. If you have a sale go through and don't get payment or wind up having to refund for some reason don't forget to request a cancellation of the transaction so you can get your final value fees back. I hadn't been keeping up on this and logged in today to find tens of thousands of dollars worth of product sold which was either never paid for or that I refunded. You can request transaction be cancelled, buyer has 7 days to accept or decline, or if they do neither you can close case after 7 days and get money back. Due to my industry we have a lot of sales that don't go thru or which were forced to refund but everyone probably has a few and your paying money on sales you never made money off of so make sure to get your credits back.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Bitcoins...near price of gold
« on: December 02, 2013, 10:45:24 AM »
bitcoins really shot into the news lately. i think they are a bit high though people at one point were saying it will never hit 100. then it will never hit 500. i dont know what high it could possibly reach but some argue with limited supply and demand as it is it could reach as high as 100,000 per coin. i have a little bit of bitcoins though i plan on getting into litecoins and feathercoins as i think there's more upside to those as they are still cheaper obviously not as widely accepted or the name recognition that bitcoin has. as far as bitcoin mining its dead unless your a computer genious working in a great pool

Other Forms of Selling / Re: Anyone sell on the Deep Web?
« on: November 29, 2013, 10:06:15 AM »
The deep web gets a bad rap because most people who have heard of it only heard of it because of the shhutting down of silkroad the black market site. it was actually developed by the navy. its basically unindexed sites and using a tor browser to get there everything you do is encrypted and bounced off a bunch of servers and stuff.

probably not a ton of people doing their online shopping on tor and deep web but there's a lot of people out there crazy about internet security with all this nsa stuff and you got a lot of prepper type people who are all about anonymity and everything. there's probably very few people selling on deepweb so could be a good niche.

probably not for the guy wanting to buy a tshirt but maybe survival supplies, tools, precious metals, etc.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Storage auction forum oversaturation
« on: November 26, 2013, 03:46:12 PM »
i agree i think this is the case with most forums theres a lot of subcategories which dont get much action, especially when you start breaking things down into regional areas because were all spread out. that said i like it the way it is. i personally dont like when categories are too broad and not everything in a category interests you so you have to sort through a bunch of crap you dont care about to find what you do care about.

i think another factor is just less people are active on forums and posting on forums in relation to storage auctions anymore. it used to be a buzz in all categories butthings have really slowed odwn overall

Just curious if anyone has ever tried selling on the deepweb as in the one you need a TOR browser to access. Obviously its more meant for black market goods but maybe if someone mainstream hopped on they'd have no competition? I guess that also brings up why need the anonymity to buy a toaster but heck who knows.

eBay / Re: Handling Customer Complaints
« on: November 25, 2013, 12:08:57 PM »
Ebay's decision was that the customer will send back the bag and issue a refund. We'll see if I get the same bag back. I really don't want to even accept the bag back and I'll be very upset if I get a different bag back. I'm not sure how they came up with this decision being that the buyer showed no evidence that the bag is fake, I took pictures from all angles including additional which were asked for by the buyer and when pressed to show evidence of the bag being fake, all the buyer could do was complain that the tassels were "yucky". I think Ebay may have just lost me as a seller.

boo on ebay. im really surprised without the customer being able to point to some specific element of the bag as being fake that they would accept i just dont like tassels.

on a totally diff subject sorta im always surprised how cheap authentic designer stuff feels. anyone ever felt a louis vuitton mens wallet. it feels like cheap plastic fake leather, the real ones as well as the fakes. i can see someoen thinking this should be soft plush leather not cheap plasticy feeling leather, that would be someone who doesn't know their bags though.

lets be honest i love to complain too but your not leaving ebay, its too big, too many buyers, it sucks we get screwed sometimes but lets be honest we all keeep comming back.

ive been toying iwht the idea of selling on the deep web and taking bitcoins. no fees and no chargebacks. its more meant for black market goods but who knows maybe theres a market for other stuff too

I wouldn't give up on Ebay just yet Homegrown, there is just nothing else like it for selling certain items. Obviously name brand possibly counterfeit items not being one of them.

I wouldn't worry about having the bag switched out, could you imagine the difficulty of finding a close enough looking counterfeit? UNLESS of course that was their evil plan from the start, and they only purchased that bag because they had a knock off similar. But I'm sure the chances of that are slim to none.

the sad thing about ebay ad them favoring buyers is that the buyer doesn't even have to send a similar looking bag. the buyer could send a box full of underwear back and as long as the weight is similar to a bag its basically a he said she said and a tossup between whether they side with teh buyer and seller

i know ebay is the best marketplace to get the highest dollar for an item like this vs doing craigslist or going to a high end womens resale shop but honestly because of how touchy ebay is with designer stuff and because some ebayers game the system and prey on sellers id avoid selling high end handbags on ebay period

The problem here is if the buyer pulls a switcheroo and sends back a counterfeit bag and keeps the real one.

yeah i know thats a risk you run selling on ebay, especially designer stuff with all the counterfeit problems on ebay and how sensitive ebay is to this issue. that said if it really comes down to it the buyer is gonna get what they want, they are gonna get their money and wind up keeping the bag. id try to play nice from the start and just get your bag back. your right though, if they send a fake back ebay is gonna side with them unless you have stellar feedback inthe thousands and the buyer is relatively new
