Other Forms of Selling / Re: Anyone ever use Fiverr?
« on: May 15, 2013, 06:30:59 AM »
I've bought a few things on Fiver... one purchase was over 300 "ebooks" on how to sell  online,on ebay,CL,tips,etc.... totally redundant ,mostly outdated, but all in all after sifting through volumes and volumes I had plenty of useful info.. 5 bucks well spent,I'd say

so,did she ask for another ride this morning, you know to replenish her purchases from yesterday?... I was hoping that she was my long lost granny, but mine smoked Marlboro's , only drank cases of Miller Light and Jack Daniels ,no wine.

Craigslist / Think I scored a nice one yesterday...

answered a CL ad " sell my stuff for me"etc.... when I got there,,, I wasn't too excited... books! dammit i hate books..but some nice other stuff, harley helmets, upscale surround sound systems, lotsa cameras and accesories ( i love these for ebay)... and a telescope ( gonna need help on the value but that's another post)..and other stuff.... turns out the books are RailRoad Collector stuff ,after research in ebays sold in the past 30 days, I believe there's over a grand there, then I get to Automobilia collector books research shows another $800 or so...but the really insane thing is there's 4 Buick Brochures, pristine from late 1930's ,early 40's ... and they're selling between $45 to $65 bucks... overall it looks like about $4500 to $4800 sitting here..my cut is 50%..it'll take me about 40 listings to get it all online  (ebay &CL) and a few weekends at the flea market, but I'm kinda digging the thought of clearing $1400 / $1600 online and another 800 net at the flea... here's a link to 1 of the Buick Brochures >>>> http://www.ebay.com/itm/1940-Buick-Prestige-Brochure-Roadmaster-Century-Special-Super-GM-40-Literature-/251273333688?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a810ecbb8

the guy born in 1959 is a Music Industry Executive,,, same name/different guy ... wiki says  " Barry Weiss (born February 11, 1959) is an American music executive. He is the current Chairman & CEO of The Island Def Jam Music Group and Universal Republic Records"

I worked in a Porsche / Mercedes Benz dealership as a manager for years... our used car mgr. came to me one day and said he'd sent several trade ins to the "detail / clean up " shop over the past few months, all with floor mats and most came back WITHOUT floor mats.... so naturally we started watching this more closely... a few days later , I was on ebay, searched for floor mats and BAM...in our city a guy had listed over 40 used sets of mats.. coincidentally they matched a lot of our cars on our used lot... so just for the hell of it,using the company ebay account, I bought a set from him.... 10 minutes later a guy who actually worked in the detail shop came to my office in tears, begging for his job and pleading not to have charges placed against him... good news / bad news for him.... paid us back in full for what he sold & brought us all his exising "inventory" ,so no charges.... bad news, no mo job

The Treasure Chest / Best Storage Locker of 2012
« on: February 04, 2013, 08:51:16 PM »
" This time last year..an Auction in my own facility..being tight with management,I asked about former tenants..One guy was a real Biker Type with big legal problems... when the doors went up,mattresses & trash covered the front of the 5 X 10...couldn't see a thing other than what looked like nothing but a trip to the dump...BUT THEN.... against the wall 2 metal lockers both 5 foot tall with double doors...man I tell ya it was like that briefcase in Pulp Fiction that shone a bright light when opened....KNIVES!!. mostly New in the Box(es)...3,500 of them...apparently this guy went to Weekend Biker Events and was a vendor....Rented the same unit for 2 months (didn't move a thing,it was real close to my own units) listed every CASE and BUCK knife individually on eBay...listed Everything else on Craigslist...got several "Cherry Pickers" that over a few weeks period cleaned out the good stuff...then the remaining "Made in China" 1 Dollar stuff I sold in bulk to Flea Market Re-Sellers... total $ investment $360.00, total time invested about 50 hours... took the profits and bought myself a 2009  Chevy "Box" Work Truck with 22,000 miles.... still smile everyday knowing for 360 bucks and some time/effort I scored this workhorse..

here in North Florida..the Jacksonville online paper has some notices online, as does the local government website ( legal notices).... the best tip I got was that if you see the same last name, at the same or close facility, listed SEVERAL times that could mean business stuff ( my kinda stuff)..and ..... the Managers at the facility where I keep my stuff always let me know what's coming up..they work for an owner of 18 facilities ( North & Central Fl) and a lot of the employees at different sites talk on the phone daily,, my biggest score came from this contact..so I'd suggest getting in touch often with your network of contacts and put feelers out.

Craigslist / Re: You know what I hate most about Craigslist?
« on: May 03, 2013, 05:05:15 PM »
different styles...that's what makes the world go round, but just to mix it up a bit I think I'll try your style once in awhile just for the pure satisfaction of putting some idiot in their perceived place ...  :D

I totally agree.... I'm a top rated seller on ebay and when some CL seller says that , I show them my iphone ebay app showing all my items listed ......then I search for similar items to his/hers and show them " here's what they ASK...here's what they actually sold for ( also usually a small percentage of all the listed items )... I'm HERE ,now, with CASH so here's my offer..." sometimes I win ,other times I just win the battle but ,like poker, I messed with his thinking process, I hate smug b***ards

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: There's nothing like that rush!
« on: May 03, 2013, 04:39:31 PM »
Before retiring, my whole career was in sales...so even now...after the bidding, after the dig, after the research ( and I do like all that)...the big rush comes when the potential buyer says " I'll take it"

I have storage lockers in a South Jacksonville facility that I CraigsList sell out of and occasionally yard sell out of. The Managers are great and we have "flea markets" 2/3 times a year. The facility is actually adjacent to a huge parking lot for Whole Foods,Staples and other stores.. So we put up signs for customers to PARK outside the gates in the lot and enter on foot... and if they buy Big bulky items naturally they're allowed to drive in and pick up their stuff..all in all it works out well and it's getting a good reputation with local buyers
