The Lounge / Re: I'm outa stuff....

With the spring weather all the yard sales have started back up here in GA.  I've spent the last 2 saturdays doing more picking in prep for the 5th then doing auctions.  Some people want almost retail for the items, but many others have good prices.  I almost always offer them 1/2 of what they are asking or package deals.  Gotten a few NO but get more OKs or counter offers then not.

That table idea is pretty good.  Would fit a place with lots of apt buildings and not my area.  I do know there is a market for such things.  My old drop leaf table went from 0 interest to 8 people wanting it one month.  Most of the people liked it due to how small it was.  How easy it would fit in their kitchen or other room.

I still look at things as either "sell / scrap / trash".  I'll have to try and change that mental block.

The Treasure Chest / Re: Bought a Gamer's Card Shop!

All I can say is GRATZ!!!!!!   and I now hate you  :P

32 silver dollars and other bags with Susan B Anthony's and quarters, dimes - look at these very closely.  I suspect they have numastic value if it was part of the card shop inventory.  If need take pictures and send me a link.  I have current price books for US and World coins.

Are the coins in rolls, tubes, or just in a bag?  Susan B's you can still get at banks but depending on the quality of them they may have a premium or just worth face value.  Look for a "S" mark on those.  If you want to go all the way you should wear cotton gloves, or the fingertip covers you can buy now a days.

As for the magic cards - WOW.  I still have some but most of mine I sold years ago.  Your best bet is going to be either to sell cards by lots or singles.  If you think most of the rare cards are out I'd just make up lots of cards and sell them.  Do some research on ebay as to how things have sold and how much.

Gratz again man.

If you have someone that can keep selling for ya PureVendue I would do that and hit the auction.  Specially if your looking at a 2 week dry spell.  That gives you 2 more weekends to sell stuff.  One thing I hate is running out of inventory or low and not getting anything new.  I have people that look for me now at the flea since they know if I'm out there I'll have a mix of old stuff they have seen and new stuff they have not seen.

Movieman - I'm glad you got a unit.  Sounds like a really good one to me.  Harley stuff sells like mad around my parts.  The knives for me would be hit or miss.  Have a dozen people that sell them at the flea.

Decided to take a long lunch and went over to my buddies store earlier.  Wanted to see how they did yesterday since I didn't get to go.  Crowds at both auctions was around 30.  Only 3 "nice" units all day and they went for high prices.  A few single item / trash style units sold for $10 each.

Will have to wait till next month to buy again for me it looks like.

One suggestion - make it an odd number.  So if want to go $200 do $201, $202, $203.  Most new people and even some of the regulars bid like at a live auction.  So you mostly have "0" or "5" ending bids.  Example $50 or $75.  So I will add a buck or three to my max bid.  I've won a few units now by that $1 or $2.

Lol Money - those tanks caught my attention first, and made me think welding / tool unit?  Looks like a a 3 steel leg table/tripod was made.  Old TV is scrap for me - I've yet to get one that works.  File cabinet is $10-$20 unless is a fire proof one.  If it is fireproof it's worth $100 or more but is a hard sale.  Looks like some misc electronics on that stand that has been opened.  See what looks like shelving in the back.  From the pictures I'd only go $150 or so myself.  I hate dealing with the beds and most of the unit looks open.  So may not be many surprises.

Second unit I like better but it would go to one of our furniture guys.  Depending on the size it would prob go for $200-$400 here.  Unless the noobies are out in force then your looking at 600.

Third unit I can't get much of a feel for.  See the dresser and drawers stacked up top.  Looks like plastic on the boxspring so may be able to re-sale that.

I would bid on all 3 units but that is just me.  I put in token bids all the time and every now and then will win one.  So for myself once I saw the units myself I'd bid something like this:

1) 143 as is -- up to $178 if saw more stuff in it.
2) $201 (depending on the size)
3) $26 on last unit just cuz I really don't see much in it from the picture.  Yes - I do lowball the heck out of units many times.

Good luck.

Well I didn't get to the auctions today.  I was 10 mins from heading out the door for lunch when was "invited" to a meeting.  I just wanted to scream, in the middle of lunch also.

We keep recycling most of our newbies I think Cobia.  One of the regular newbies from Oct that I had thought quit came back for 1 auction previous saturday.  Not seen him since again so think he is mostly done.  Saw a bunch of new faces last week that I didn't know.  Some of the old regulars knew them so they may be new, returned regulars, or something.

As for the regulars jumping on any decent units - for a few weeks here all the old regulars were fighing each other for units.  I think between tax season sales, low # of units, etc. the inventory for many of them has gotten low.

Thank goodness the yard sales are back.

Don't know the last time that I watched any of the shows.  Think I saw 10 mins of AH when they were in Alaska and then turned off the TV.  Have yet to watch any of this seasons SW, and only a few of the SW: Texas this season.  Only really watch them when my daughters want to watch.  It's all to fake for me on AH, and SW is only slightly less.  I give them credit for showing the people coming up empty and going in the red a few times.  Rest of it is as unreal as AH.

Staged units are not illegal.  What gets auction facilities in trouble in some states is going in and removing items from the units.  I've read a few news articles of police raiding facilities and arresting people for theft.

If you think a unit is staged you either bid on what you CAN see only, cut your bid in 1/2, or just don't bid.  Same thing applies for company or combined units.

Ouch Movieman - that just makes me cringe thinking about it.  My 5x10 filled in a ramp fashion with tons of dirt/dust I snagged for $25.  I couldn't see paying $450 or even $150 for it.  I have seen some of what you described on/off in this part.  So don't know if some of the excitement has died down, people ran out of money, or what.  I'm going to try and hit one of the two auctions Thursday.  Will let you know how it looks.

Rockin - very nice unit it sounds like.  I sold my Atari games for $20+ in two different lots.  Looking for more as there seems to be a decent market out there for them.  I think you hit one of your upper limit lockers in this unit.  Gratz.

20-50 people is a normal size crowd in my parts now.  When I first started it was a dozen or so people, up to 25 for the caravans.  I can still sometimes hit a auction with less then 10 bidders but it's harder to do.  Most of those are out of the way, 1 unit auctions that cancel more times then not.

I could see large cities like Atlanta with 300+ people at an auction easy.  I don't think they hit those numbers to often due to the large # of auctions going on at a time in the area.

Where the update Rockin????  Want to know what all goodies you got.  Or maybe I need to check the other sections for post.

Going to miss the 2 auctions we have today due to work.  May be able to hit one of the two thursday but not sure.  Waiting to hear from some friends on how the crowds and units looked.

Most was MLK day - 300 people (facility said was 350 but I think they double counted some).  Second largest was my first auction ever on a saturday - 178 people.  We were an hour late getting started as the facility wanted to register everyone.

Flea Markets / Re: Had a good day at our local swap meet~

That is great Rockin.  I did $180 the saturday before easter.  Last saturday I had auction and yard sales.  This past saturday was a meeting and hitting some yard sales.  This saturday is trip to Carowinds with daughter so no selling.  First saturday of next month is the big army post spring flea market/yard sale - whatever want to call it.  Paid the $45 to support the troops so don't know how well I will do in sales.  Trying to figure out what to take out there that I can fit in my 10x10 space.

Hope the sales keep coming for everyone.

I'll be honest and tell you I don't have the first clue.  Nor am I even close to haven any art talent.  I can't even draw a stick figure  ::)

Only craft thing I'm attempting is to take some picture frames, old photos, and anything else related I can find to make some "theme wall art".  I even got the idea from a guy that had setup next to me at the flea one day.

I started to give all of my bed stuff to a family friend who scraps also.  Just so I don't have to mess with the stuff.
