General Storage Auction Talk / Re: How much gas do you use?
« on: August 24, 2013, 01:51:03 PM »
Average?  $30-$40

Last month was bad.   Mostly picking and spent $120.   Brutal.    Sales didnt come close to covering expenses.
Why I try to find other things to do in the area.   Like I wanted to go to Cabela's thats way north so waited until the auctions were in that area *then* went.   If I have friends/family in the area I'll meet for lunch.

Offset the gas expense.

eBay / Why don't buyers leave feedback?!
« on: August 24, 2013, 01:30:37 PM »
Since opening this new ebay account the only people that have left feedback is sellers.
This week I wanted to go overboard just so a buyer would leave good feedback and nada.

Auction ended at 2pm his time on Wednesday.  I had it packed and shipped within 45min of payment and he received it Friday at 9am.  I put in invoice and thank you note.  Packed it in foam and added moister packs.

What do I have to do to get people to give me feedback?

Worst case scenario, I could always gut it and use it to move my storage units...it's a lot cheaper than a box truck!

Funny, when you first posted this I thought about saying the same.   Why sell?   You can keep enough intact to vacation in (little weekend getaway) and gut out back end to haul auction goods...

I got an offer last night. I'm considering it. The guy wants to trade 4 guns. A Savage 22 Hornet, a Sterling semi auto 9MM, a 357 Vaquero Bisley Chrome and a Smith & Wesson .40 M&P.

Sterling is the rifle, correct?

All are good guns.  $1800-$2200 resale value?   I'm just guessing.
For the $650 that's not a bad trade.  But cash is better.   ;D

Maybe you can say okay but not until Monday, any cash offer and the deal is off?    It's worked or me before.

That's a nice buy!   I disagree with bwb111.  I think $2000 is totally do-able. (By the one picture its hard to say but just going by ur description and what others sell for)
List for $2600-ish and negotiate?

Will agree it may sit a few weeks.   Times are tough.  But RV people are a different breed and hunting season is right around the corner......

Is it musty smelling?    That's a problem around here.   I just picked up a new ozone machine.  It's only $100 and seems to work well. Not like my last one that broke but I don't have $1200 to replace it.   Anyone that's going to flip cars vehicles should have one IMO.   I'll send you a link of where to buy if interested.

@bwb111 -  so where do you suggest buying supplies to fix RV's?

Stores / Re: Do you offer returns?
« on: August 19, 2013, 08:57:38 PM »
Anything like CL or other face-to-face sales, No.
You saw, you inspected.....it's yours.

Internet sales I say no returns but if the person is cool, has a serious issue and pays shipping and if expensive Paypal/FV fees, then sure.

 Really it comes down to if he person is cool about it.

If its really not what they thought and can logically explain how they misinterpreted the listing, or how my listing was misleading, then okay.    .......tho, I do look at their history too.

Picker's Paradise / Re: Picking. How's it going in your area ?
« on: August 17, 2013, 11:32:11 AM »
Same as you.

Estate Sales are up to 10-15/week within a 30min drive but he volume of people re up too.
Average 50-75 on list waiting for doors to open.   Thus, prices are up.  Supply & Demand.

Hasn't been much in the "smalls" market.  Either price is to high, items get snatched up or its things that the market is flooded with.

Same with my other picking sources.

It's all typical for this time of year.   Bring on the rain, crowds dwindle, price drop, I'm back in business.

I'm heading down south.   With luck I'll be able to pick some items not so common around here.....

How is this story even newsworthy?

Why was this published?

I have no idea.
Watch the video.  They are trying to make this such a big deal.....total fail.
It's almost a SNL skit.

No one cares.

Last "big story" was "Cop leaves Shotgun in unattended car"
Turns out it was locked in place but windows were down. So?

Craigslist / Re: Craigslist Report....August, 2013
« on: August 16, 2013, 11:55:41 AM »
I'm on the other side of that....

Somehow my CL account got switched to the "Olympic Penisula" on the other side of the Sound.
About a 100mile drive or a 30min/$13 ferry ride (plus drive & ferry wait time).

So I got all these calls from people wanting me to deliver a $20 item and none to happy I was saying no.

Tho, they could have looked at my location.  Says right there, even has a map.

.....

My CL sales are way down.  I just can't find quick turnover product.

I'm left with hard selling items.  Vintage food mixers, vintage tools, high end specialty tools, professional grade camera stuff assesories.
All good stuff but not hot sellers on CL.

To counter I've finally set up my own eBay account rather than useing other people's and I've been lining up auctions to attend and hitting estate sales farther out of my normal radius

We'll see.   I've got trip to Texas and California planned.  Hopefully I can find some good picks.

eBay / Re: eBay Listing Service
« on: August 15, 2013, 11:49:17 AM »
Ohhhh.   Okay.

Yes, there is software to do that but I ebay so little I haven't looked into it.
You can set up templates in ebay to make listings faster but, again, my little use, I've never done it.

If you've read past posts, I've only done ebay on my own starting this year.  Before that it was my ex's job, after her I paid a friend.   So I know a lot about ebay but hands-on experiance is limited.  Very frustrating when I know something can be done but takes me forever to figure out how to get it done!  lol

http://www.ebay.com/gds/Set-up-an-eBay-Item-Listing-Template-from-eBay/10000000011782084/g.html

Just google: ebay template

You'll get a bunch of results but I can't recommend any.   But now I'm curious so I'll look around and if any look cool I'll update this post.

eBay / Re: eBay Listing Service
« on: August 15, 2013, 10:52:04 AM »
No.   I looked into it once and its to spendy.

As shown below, Consignor’s minimum commission is $10.00 per auction listing (if it doesnt sell, ou till owe $10)
When an item sells, Consignor shall deduct commission’s % from that portion of sale. If the item sells for $40.00, the 1st $29.99 commission % is 45%, and the remaining $10.01 is at 40%. The current commission schedule is as follows:
$ 0.00 - Unsold
Minimum Commission is $10.00

$ 00.01 - $ 29.99
Commission is 45%

$ 30.00 - $ 49.99
Commission is 40%

$ 50.00 - $ 74.99
Commission is 35%

$ 75.00 - $ 199.99
Commission is 30%

$ 200.00 - $ 499.99
Commission is 25%

$ 500.00 - $ 5,000.00
Commission is 20%

Relisting Fee:
$2.00 Per Auction Per Listing

Considering I mostly "pick", I mostly do "smalls"....
An item that sells for $29.99 has close to a 14% ebay/paypal fee.  And that's without shipping. Add just $5 shipping and your pushing 16%.

Now I'm down to about $25.  They take 45%; now Im at $13.75.   Minus the cost of item....?
