eBay / Re: Handling Customer Complaints
« on: November 19, 2013, 01:28:07 PM »
here's how I handle my complaints. basically i tell the customer if you dont want it send it back im more than happy to take a refund. i think alot of people would prefer to try to extort a percentage of the sale back. as soon as i start offering to take it back all the sudden no thats okay ill keep it.

no sense in getting into a back and forth arguing with a customer because more than likkely not only will ebya and paypal side with the customer but there's a good chance the customer will wind up getting their money back and keeping your bag.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Walking away from a unit
« on: November 15, 2013, 11:04:18 AM »
i hate wasting money, i mean heck stained tshirts and stuff i like to try to sell at garage sales and flea markets as rags to wash teh car. home depot charges like 5 bucks for a pack of rags get a whole bag of them from me for a buck. that said that attitude can wind up turning you into a hoarder. i've bought units where its like all clthes and particle board furniture where your lucky if you can get it taken for free on cl. ive not left lockers as i dont want to be not allowed back at a facility but basically done a quick flip through and dumped the whole unit

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Keeping Items That Appreciate
« on: November 08, 2013, 01:30:32 PM »
with the exception of silver and gold i dont see anything appreciating worth keeeping it around. also, figure if you have something you can have cash in hand for today and you sit waiting for it to appreciate if you have debt, i can gurantee your the interest on your debt will cost you more than you'll ever gain hanging onto a piece of sports memorbilia or something like that.

also even if you donnt have debt having that cash to reinvest into your business orsomething else will also outpace the appreciation of most items.

eBay / Re: Insurance Claims on Ebay
« on: November 06, 2013, 12:17:19 PM »
In my experience they always make me as the shipper take the initiative. Hopefully its a cheap item and just standard $100 insurance. If its something bigger it can be a bit of a headache. Also, oftentimes theyll try to pay you for YOUR COST and not the BUYERS PAYMENT amount. THey may want to see an invoice from your supplier.

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Bidder has no money !

yeah seen it many of times, all auctioneers say upfront you have to have cash or tht they take cards, payment due immediately, etc. there's no excuse for people bidding on things they can't pay for. its times like these the regulars should groan, tell the guy he's an idiot, and basically shame him into never attending an auction again.

Hi, I've commented about terapeak in a few recent posts, I'm super happy with it, it's amazing the type of info you can get from how much stuff under a certain search or keywords sells all across ebay in total dollars, how many items, average price of sales, keywords, etc. You can do research on other sellers and competition, etc.

I been having some fun playing around with this new tool so if anyone is especially interested in a certain category or niche or product feel free to let me know and i'd be happy to do a search for you. Not looking to be everyones personal research assistant forever lol but dont mind doing a few searches to help someoen out and to show you the type of stuff you can find.

PayPal / Re: I HATE PAYPAL!!! Reserves are killing my business!!!

Probably think you are laundering Columbian coke money to buy Russian RPGs for Islamik terrerists (misspelled on porpoise). We all live in a bad Tom Clancy novel now.  :-[

lol thats funny but sadly true. ever since the patriot act and banking secrecy act and all this nonsense theres new and ever changing financial rules and it causs huge pains in the ass for legitimate businesses. this frank dodd crap is going through now and doing wires for product is becomming  a huge hassle banks dont wanna do big wires, wanna shut down your account if you do wires, wanna charge you hundreds a month for some premier account you need to do wires. there was recently pretty big news about chase sending letters out to all small business customers about wires and other rules.

When I did call Paypal regarding the hold. They told me that it was because the items sold were listed as high risk due to forgeries. I didn't think it was up to Paypal to decide what items are more susceptible to being forged.

The items that were held was a Woodrow (Appalachian Bluegrass Instrument) and a brass trivet from Virginia Metalcrafters.. Nothing crazy..

It's not killing me that they're being held, but still.. it's principle!

okay yeah figured it was something like that. basically anytime you sell autographs, designer handbags, silver, sports memorbilia, etc stuff like that lots of fakes and counterfeits so they hold a good percentage or most in escrow unil they are sure the buyer is satisfied. even the most established seller with best policy compliance cant get around this stuff. yeah that sucks.

No it's the standard 21 day reserve. All of a sudden, I've got holds for items when I have been selling on ebay semi-aggressively for months now.

give paypal a call and report back, curious to hear why. when i talked to the lady who put the hold on my account she said it was flagged not just because of my category but moreso because the volume we were doing, i guess over a certain threshhold they look into your account. thats wierd if you dont have that info bar notifying  you of a hold they should call and email you as well

General Storage Auction Talk / Re: Putting together ideas for an ebook..

if you enjoy writing and want to write a book i have a better angle for you than an educational series. i personally dont think there's anything you can do that will set yourself aside from the crowd, the crowd being the hundreds of books and programs already out about storage auctions.

if you are able to find a way to seperate yourself good luck educating your potential buyers as most people have probably bought a few crap ebooks already and dont want to give you a chance even if yours is the best yet.

here's my angle for you. many of you on this site have very entertaining stories about interesting occurances at auctions as well as funny stories on craigslist. i personally could see myself buying a funny book if it was anecdotal about your stories and experiences at storage auctions and maybe chime in with a bit of wisdom as well if you want but make it more entertainment than educational.

No, you don't need to remind me, but I think you have tunnel vision when it comes to online auctions. Your comparison to the infancy of online buying in general ignores one fact which I think is quite large.

The online shopping which has developed over the last decade encompasses hundreds of venues (if not thousands or tens of thousands) which are selling a WIDE variety of goods, and they appeal to millions upon millions of online buyers, not the 10,000 (or whatever) people who buy storage auction lockers.  The comparison is like comparing....I don't know what...but it's not a good comparison from a logical standpoint. But, we are each entitled to our individual opinions; however, I have no motivation to promote my belief whereas you do.

i think both you and travis are right. i think online storage auctions are in their infancy, probably going more from physical auctions to online, maybe even gotomeeting type settings where everyone from their home computer is calling bids over a facetime type deal.

that said i also agree that comparing storage auctions to online shopping isn't really a fair comparison, like you said online shopping encompasses basically every retailer andmerchant who had a brick and mortar store transitiioning into online where as everyone needs to buy things. storage market is a more limited market, how many people are buying things for resale, buying used things, trying to make money flipping,, much smaller market.

that said i think this industry is changing and whoever is innovative and changes with the times will come out on top. i do somewhat agree however that the hype the show created has come and gone though i imagine more people are involved now than before the craze

You need an ISBN to sell your book on any major market format like Amazon, iBooks, or Android right? That's what I was assuming.

Maybe I'll just become a YouTube Douche like Glendon Cameron..

i believe you only need an isbn for a physical paper book. i have several books on amazon in pfd format for kindles and have not had to pay for an isbn
